Brace Yourselves, Outlander Fans: Season 5 Is Coming Early Next Year

Fans of Diana Gabaldon's time-traveling adventure book series brought to life on the small screen are accustomed to having Outlander premiere in the Fall - three of its first four seasons premiered between August and November. Unfortunately, that is not the case with the upcoming fifth season, which we can expect in 2020.

At the 2019 Television Critics Association Summer press tour, Starz's Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Hirsch gave Outlander some long-awaited news about the season five premiere.

"Finally, to calm social media down, we will bring the end of 'Droughtlander.' The highly anticipated return of the epic and acclaimed series Outlander will debut its fifth season early next year," says Hirsch, to groans heard 'round the world.

That's right - we are still months away, fans. If we had to guess, we would wager Starz will debut season five on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020. The reason we think it'll be that soon after the holidays is that Outlander seasons are 13 episodes long (after the first season, which ran 16 episodes). If they start on Jan. 5, 13 episodes will take the show through the end of March, and then American Gods can premiere in the first part of April. There's always a chance that Starz will hold Outlander until Jan. 12 or even Jan. 19, but it will definitely premiere sometime in January, or else Starz's year-round Sunday night original schedule will be thrown off.

As for what we can expect, here's a rundown of what happens in book five, The Fiery Cross, though be warned of spoilers if you haven't read the books. What we're most curious about is how Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) will continue to fit into the plot, because that character is no longer alive in the books at this point, so it will be interesting to see what the show does with him moving forward.

Kate Middleton's Laugh Is So Infectious, It's Impossible Not to Smile Over These Photos

Kate Middleton knows how to work hard, but she also knows how to have fun! When the Duchess of Cambridge isn't sharing a sweet moment with kids or playing sports during official royal appearances, she can usually be spotted breaking out into laughter. And it's not just a half-smile pity laugh either; it's a show-every-single-one-of-your-teeth laugh. Honestly, her laughing face is so good, it's practically impossible not to crack a smile yourself. Based on these photos alone, we're pretty sure she never heard a joke she didn't like. Keep reading for all the times Kate caught a case of the giggles, and then look at the rest of the royal family's best laughing faces.

Tokyo Is 13 Hours Ahead of the US, So What Does That Mean For Olympic Viewers in 2020?

With the 2020 Olympics taking place in Tokyo, American viewers are faced with a familiar question: will they be broadcast live? The answer is yes and no, just as it has been in previous years.

NBC, which owns the broadcast rights in the US, will be combining live and tape-delayed coverage on its networks, as well as using a wide variety of platforms to bring the events to viewers as they happen - and for the first time, social media will be playing a huge role.

Because the partnership with NBC is so significant to the Olympics, the organizing committee has scheduled some of the marquee events during time slots that will allow North American viewers to watch live in prime time. "Even though we're 13 hours apart from these Asian time zones, we can have a fair amount of coverage, especially in prime time," NBC Olympics president Gary Zenkel told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Swimming is in the morning in Tokyo, so it's perfectly primed for a 9, 10 o'clock [p.m. here] start." The network hasn't said whether it will broadcast the opening ceremonies live, since those will take place in the early morning on the East Coast; presumably they'll be played at least once during primetime, but there's been no word yet on whether the ceremonies will be available to stream. (They were during the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.)

NBC will cover a large number of events live across its various channels and digital platforms. However, as the Inquirer confirmed, those streams will be accessible only if you already have a paid subscription to a partner cable, satellite, or streaming service. There's another option if you're not able to access those streams: Twitter! Variety reports that NBC and Twitter have partnered for exclusive Olympics coverage. The content will include daily 20-minute studio shows, and Twitter will give viewers the opportunity each day to vote on which of NBC's primetime events should be available to live stream on Twitter as well. It's a new frontier, and we can't wait to tune in.

Welp, Even Scott Patterson Wanted More From Luke and Lorelai's Wedding on Gilmore Girls

If Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life makes its way back to Netflix for a second season, Scott Patterson has only one special request for the new set of episodes: a wedding for Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and his character, Luke. The actor recently caught up with Us Weekly and spoke about why he thinks fans of the series deserve to see a big celebration taking place for the couple.

"Well, I'll tell you one thing, [there] better be a big, fat wedding," he said. "I think that's what we should give [fans] . . . I think now it's time to give them, after 20 years, what they want." After building up their romance throughout Gilmore Girls' entire seven-season run, Lorelai and Luke finally got married on the show's 2016 revival. The wedding, though, turned out to be a bit lackluster for some fans, as the couple ended up eloping in lieu of having a big celebration. Considering the amount of screen time their relationship got - with its many highs and lows - Patterson believes a memorable event is what fans deserve to see.

When asked about what Luke and Lorelai's wedding would ideally look like, the 60-year-old actor mentioned that it'd likely be "filled with drama, filled with laughs, filled with, you know, Miss Patty [forgetting] the dancers and then they [would have] to replace them with little children or dogs." He continued, "Something very cute and goes right to the heart. A community pulling together to make it all happen."

But of course, in order for that "big, fat" wedding to take place, Netflix would have to order more episodes of the reboot - and that hasn't happened yet. "If everybody can make the right deal, then it'll happen," Patterson said. "If everybody's available, then, you know, it could, it could happen . . . there's always hope."

Princess Diana's Most Captivating Moments With Kids

Princess Diana shared numerous sweet moments with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, before her death in August 1997, but she had just as many heartwarming encounters with kids during her royal appearances across the globe. As part of her extensive charity work, the royal, who was a kindergarten teacher before marrying Prince Charles, had no qualms cuddling up to young children as she visited hospitals, schools, and orphanages. She would even get down on their level as they offered her gifts or flowers, much like her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, does when she interacts with her smallest fans. Not only have William and Harry carried on Diana's legacy for helping others, but they also share her love for children.

Looking Back at Lady Gaga's Legendary Blood-Soaked VMAs Performance, 10 Years Later

Exactly ten years ago, Lady Gaga delivered one of the most memorable MTV Video Music Award performances of all time. The pop star was just 23, and had previously released her debut album, The Fame, which spawned runaway hits like "Just Dance" and "Poker Face." The public was already intrigued by her catchy, unusual music and even more unusual style, but the performance - her first ever at a major award show- would offer a chance to prove her (now indisputable) talent within a live setting.

Her big moment was also preceded by five famous words: "I'mma let you finish, but . . ."

It's true: the 2009 VMAs stage saw both Gaga declaring herself as one of the boldest auteurs of her time as well as the inception of Kanye West and Taylor Swift's high-profile feud, which - despite momentary truces - still rages on. And though Kanye's unexpected interruption undoubtedly became the headline for the award show, Gaga's performance still stood out as a testament to her showmanship.

Suddenly. . . blood appeared, and it became apparent that this would not be a conventional performance.

How'd she manage that? With a lot of choreography, white lace, and fake blood, that's how. The performance began with Gaga laying down, singing "Poker Face" in a setting that's not not reminiscent of The Phantom of the Opera. The music transitioned into "Paparazzi" as Gaga awakened to join her backup dancers. Her famous monster claw made an early appearance. Then suddenly, among the crystals on the right side of her chest, blood appeared, and it became apparent that this would not be a conventional performance.

The energy onstage gradually became more frantic. A walking stick was thrust into Gaga's hand as she charged toward the front of the stage. The camera panned to Sean "Diddy" Combs who looked amazed, stunned, and perhaps not entirely sure how to feel about what he was witnessing. After a brief piano solo, more blood started pouring down Gaga's body. The audience cheered as Gaga, nearly in tears, sang, "I'm your biggest fan / I'll follow you until you love me." Gaga was carried off and then reappeared floating above her dancers in a harness. She dropped the microphone and stared into the distance to the sound of camera shutters. In the context of the performance, viewers just witnessed her death. In real life, it was the birth of an icon.

Gaga went on to win the award for best new artist that night, while the "Paparazzi" video also earned her awards for best special effects and best art direction. In a strange twist, Gaga was scheduled to co-headline a tour with Kanye just two months later in November. The Fame Kills tour was subsequently canceled because Kanye decided to step away from the public eye, and Gaga instead embarked on her own Monster Ball Tour.

The three aforementioned stars still orbit each other and the award show, for that matter: Taylor is opening this year's VMAs with a song off her new album Lover. But what happened at the VMAs a decade ago is still something to pause at because Gaga's breakout moment - a grotesque exhibition that forced the public to grapple with its obsession with celebrity - was overshadowed by one celebrity interrupting another celebrity's acceptance speech. (There was of course more to it than that, but, you get it.)

Gaga performed at the VMAs again in 2011 and then in 2013, but truthfully, neither performance came close to her electrifying debut. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of performance, one that offered insight into what was to come. It practically goes without saying, but her career has since skyrocketed. She's experimented with genre, performed at the Super Bowl, and even won an Oscar. Who could have foreseen all that? Some who witnessed the performance in real time might have.

Left Hand Blue! A Giant Inflatable Twister Board Exists, So Get Ready For Family Game Night

Family game night just got a little more exciting thanks to this giant, inflatable Twister board - it's like a bounce house and a board game in one! As fun as regular Twister is, I'm pretty sure the added challenge of trying to keep your balance on a wobbling vinyl "game board" makes the classic game just a little more difficult (and more fun). Created by Hammacher Schlemmer & Company, the inflatable Twister game costs a chill (re: not chill) $2,000 and supports up to 1,500 pounds of weight - so the whole family can play!

The double-stitched vinyl playing mat features 64 dots (eight rows of eight dots) in Twister's original colors and comes with an air blower and a 24-inch spinnable wheel to determine which move each player will have to make on their turn. So, who's going to be the last one standing on your next game night?

Ladies, It's Time We Stop Putting Down Our Bodies in Front of Other Women

Women are beautiful. We can see it in each other and even aspire to be like one another, despite any imperfections - but we often struggle to observe that same beauty in ourselves. Even so, I like to think of myself as a pretty confident person. I try not to dwell on my flaws or place too much value on physical appearance. It took years of failure and growth to get to this point, and for all the work I put in to stop feeling so self-conscious, I know how quickly I can fall back into those habits.

Never was it more obvious than when my beautiful sister and her equally gorgeous friend came to visit me. I had recently moved to a city five hours away, and after being deprived of my sister's company for the longest stretch of time in our lives, I couldn't wait to show her and her friend around town. But I'm six years older than my sister, and sometimes I forget just how significant that age gap can be. She and I are both in sororities, for example, but when I was in college, I only had to be careful not to post anything inappropriate on Facebook. My sister, on the other hand, is responsible for her entire personal brand on Instagram. She has to reflect the values of the sorority through her filters and Stories and appear beautiful, adventurous, interesting, and fun at all times - all without looking like she worked too hard to capture the shot.

Suddenly, hearing my sister scrutinize her naturally long and lean arms made me very aware of my own.

So naturally, after long hugs and a quick catch-up, their conversation turned to which outfits would work best for each activity I had planned for that weekend. They wanted to give off a "vibe" with each outfit, so they would look complementary in their pictures, which was fine and even kind of fun. I decided to dress in the same '90s aesthetic for our first outing, donning a silk dress that the women on Friends would have worn, along with some neon heels. It seemed innocent enough, until we got to the restaurant and my sister asked me to take some pictures. When I showed them the photos, they cringed over the size of their upper arms, the fullness of their cheeks, and the length of their necks. They picked apart things I wouldn't have thought of even in my most insecure moments. Suddenly, hearing my sister scrutinize her naturally long and lean arms made me very aware of my own. I had felt - dare I say it - kind of sexy in my Rachel Green-inspired outfit. Now I pulled a blazer over my arms in the middle of a crowded, hot restaurant.

Facetune lifted the girls' spirits, but no amount of photo editing could fix what I was feeling. If these two 21-year-old girls who are stunningly beautiful by youth alone, Barbie doll-proportioned, and conventionally pretty were this insecure, what right did I have to feel good about myself? I am almost 30 and still struggle with acne even as wrinkles are starting to appear. I'm very short and pretty curvy. My teeth aren't perfectly straight, and neither is my hair. I wear a size large; across the table, my sister and her friend stressed over wearing a medium. They clearly had no idea that by putting themselves down, they were also putting me down.

Finally, I couldn't hold it in any longer. I told my sister that she had to stop talking badly about herself and avoid Instagram and photo edits until after her trip. Initially, she insisted that I was beautiful and her comments were only about herself. But when I explained why they felt insulting to me, too, she promised to stop, as did her friend. The no-social-media, no-negative-self-talk portion of the weekend was so much more fun. We laughed hard, throwing back our heads without thinking about how many chins we had. We had deep conversations and talked with our hands without worrying how our arms would look in a picture. We ate delicious, world-renowned food without fearing we'd be bloated after dinner. And most of all, we just enjoyed each others' souls without putting down anyone's bodies - including our own.

My point is this: as women, we have to work hard enough to overcome our insecurities. Let's not make it harder on ourselves or each other by poisoning conversations with those we care about most. In the end, you won't remember how beautiful you did or didn't feel in those moments, anyway - but you will remember how much you enjoyed their company.

Katy Perry Goes Full Maddy Glam With a Sparkling Euphoria-Inspired Makeup Look

Katy Perry is the latest star to jump on the Euphoria-inspired makeup bandwagon, and damn, she looks good doing it. The 34-year-old singer's makeup artist, Michael Anthony, recently shared a video of her bejeweled beauty look that gave a major nod to the character Maddy Perez. He surrounded Perry's eyes with delicate crystals and covered her lids with pink shadow, topping them off with subtle winged liner.

"This looked so mesmerizing in person and in the lights on stage," Anthony wrote on Instagram, accompanying a glittering video of Perry in the makeup chair. "Been super inspired by Euphoria to bring the crystals back out and last night was a perfect opportunity to shine a little brighter. The crowd went berserk for her!!" Anthony made sure to credit Kellie DeFries, aka "The Crystal Ninja," for her contribution to Perry's look as well.

Maddy (played by Alexa Demie) and several other cast members had the chance to show off fun and creative beauty looks through their characters. The intricately placed rhinestones, colorful eye shadow, and glitter galore are not easy to replicate, since the show's makeup artists, Doniella Davy and Kirsten Sage Coleman, set a high standard. Something tells us we'll be seeing a lot more of these "euphoric" re-creations come Halloween.

The Obamas Officially Kick Off Their Netflix Partnership With American Factory, Out Now

Barack and Michelle Obama's multiyear partnership with Netflix is officially underway. Earlier this year, it was announced that the former president and first lady would be releasing seven various fiction and nonfiction projects under their Higher Ground Productions company. After building excitement, their debut title, American Factory, has now officially hit the streaming platform.

Something tells us we'll be seeing a lot more of these "euphoric" re-creations come Halloween.

MTV's Ghosted Looks Messy and Dramatic, So I'll Be Watching Every Single Episode

MTV's new show Ghosted: Love Gone Missing is going to be a trip. Have you ever been ghosted? Have you ever wanted to track down the ghost with a camera crew and former Bachelorette star, and force them to tell you why they left you hanging? In the new Catfish-style reality series, actor and on-air personality Travis Mills links up with Rachel Lindsay - the first black Bachelorette - to help a handful of people who have been tortured by a lover's disappearing act by finding the ghost and sitting them down face-to-face to hash out what went wrong. If that sounds a tad obsessive, and possibly also an invasion of privacy, I can see how you got there!

As someone who loves Catfish to a near-disturbing degree, I am admittedly intrigued by this show - after all, when has confronting someone who clearly doesn't want to talk to you ever gone wrong? Also, the trailer is such a dramatic mess (lots of sobbing, screaming, and buddy-cop-style antics!) that I truly have no choice but to tune in. Ghosted: Love Gone Missing premieres with back-to-back episodes on Sept. 10, and if you need me, I'll be on my couch with a giant bowl of popcorn.

These 2 Adorable Golden Retrievers Are BFFs, and We Don’t Deserve This Level of Cuteness

As the owner of an 11-year-old rescue Golden Retriever, I feel very strongly about the breed. I'll never push my opinions on anyone because I think every dog breed is the best breed, because dogs rule and are just the greatest gift imaginable. But I will say that nothing beats two fluffy golden retrievers, especially when they're best buds and do everything together.

Dynamic duo Lizzie and Ally from Canada regularly share their adventures on their owners' Instagram account, and we were lucky enough to find it. Spend a few minutes scrolling their feed and you'll be hard pressed to look away. They snuggle together, try to rub each other's noses through glass when apart, and even share some kisses. They're truly the cutest pair of goldens around and worth every moment of your time, and then some.

Fruit Flies Got You Down? This Trap Is Surprisingly Stylish and Only $12

Above: my fruit fly trap. I realize there's no fruit in this photo, but technically the wine used to be grapes.

I have no idea why I get so many fruit flies at home. I don't even keep that much fruit around (yes, I know, I should probably eat more fruit) but they show up anyway, conspiring to float around my apartment and drive me completely crazy. My dog may look adorable swatting at them, but I do not - which is why I've tried nearly everything to keep them from killing my vibe by killing them instead.

After some trial, error, furious Googling, and a polite complaint to my landlord, I started looking for DIY ways to rid myself of them forever. While there are lots of fruit fly traps on the market, they're not very cute to look at - but I had faith that somewhere, someone had to be smart enough to design an aesthetically pleasing trap that could also lure fruit flies to their death. My search came to an end once I found the RSVP Endurance Fruit Fly Trap ($12) on Amazon, which is not only stylish, but also discreet: the white ceramic looks sleek, and the stainless steel cover matches the rest of my kitchen appliances (one friend actually thought it was a salt cellar, which, LOL).

It's incredibly easy to use; you fill it with about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and a small drop of regular dish soap, put the lid on, sit back, and watch those suckers take the bait. Have I gleefully sipped a glass of wine while watching a fruit fly navigate its way into a hole and ultimately meet its demise? Yes. And did I let out a hearty witch cackle? Also yes. (I really hate fruit flies, in case you were wondering.)

8 Heat-Free Hair Products That Have Made My Hair 10x Healthier

I used to have extra-long hair down to my waist that I was very happy with, but after a hairstylist went a little scissor happy at a recent trim, I ended up with a cut that hit just past my shoulders. After that, I made it my mission to drop heat-styling hair tools in the hopes of restoring my hair's length and maintaining its health, and that meant switching up my hair routine completely.

I introduced more masks and leave-in conditioners to my regimen. I also used gentle hair accessories and detanglers to prevent stress and damage to my hair. After four months, my hair felt stronger and has grown a few inches. Read on to learn more about the products that got me through a heat tool-free Summer.
