Yes, You Can Drink Wine on a Low-Carb Diet, but Take This Dietitian's Advice
If you've decided to follow a low-carb diet, you know there are some foods you'll need to limit or even restrict. So, what about wine? Your drink of choice isn't off the menu completely, but you'll need to be mindful about the type of wine you're drinking, as well as how much.
If you choose a particularly sweet wine, it's likely higher in carbs, and the empty calories could slow down your progress. "All wines have alcohol calories plus carbohydrates, and wine has varying amounts of sugar added to it, so while a dry wine may not have a lot of carbs, a sweet wine can almost count as a dessert," Julie Stefanski, RDN, owner of Stefanski Nutrition Services in York, PA, and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, told POPSUGAR. "Most of the time the amount of added sugar isn't offered up on a nutrition label like a snack, so you have to guess with your taste buds and help from your server how many carbs a glass might set you back."
Julie explained that wine can also have unpredictable effects on a person's blood sugar levels. "Individuals with diabetes are always told to drink any alcohol with food to help prevent a low blood sugar level after drinking," she said. It's wise to do the same while following a low-carb diet, since keeping your blood sugar stable can help prevent cravings.
Bottom line: "If you're following a low-carb diet, it's best to opt for just one glass of a dry wine and count the carbs as part of your meal," Julie said. Cheers!

While the thought of opening your door to trick-or-treaters dressed as the horrifying evil entity from Stephen King's beloved story might make you want to run and hide, we have a proposition for you: if you can't beat the clowns, why not join the clowns?
Of all the recent buzzy pop culture Halloween costumes out there, Pennywise is actually one of the easiest to pull off. Sure, his white and silver clown suit might seem elaborate at first glance, but the trick to freaking everyone out with your costume is all in the makeup. Selena Gomez had a blast from the past on Monday when she visited her old stomping grounds at Danny Jones Middle School in Mansfield, TX. The singer, who was filming a documentary about her childhood and hometown memories, swung by the school during the late afternoon to reconnect with a few of her past teachers and say hey to the students, according to the Mansfield Independent School District blog. Selena just happened to be in the area when she decided to pop by the school, which turned out to be a surreal experience for her. "This trip, I wanted to take my best friend Courtney and also some of my people from my label just to show them where I grew up and how proud I am of where I'm from," Selena said.
Selena was attending Danny Jones Middle School when she was signed to take part in her first Disney project as a background character on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. The seventh-grader asked her coach to sign a withdrawal form so she could move to Florida to be part of the show. "She said, 'Oh, I'm just going to be in a little Disney film,'" said Stephani Gray, the head girls' basketball coach at Lake Ridge High School. "And I said, 'Oh. OK.' Because sometimes middle-school kids kind of exaggerate." But it wasn't long before Selena's old coach was scrolling through the credits of a Disney movie and came across her name.
The 27-year-old has since won numerous honors, including an American Music Award, an MTV Video Music Award, a People's Choice Award, and multiple Teen Choice Awards. But seeing her old middle school made her feel nostalgic in the best way, which inspired her to leave the students with a few key pieces of advice. "What I would tell them is that it's really hard, but it's worth it," Selena said. "I wasn't a straight-A student by all means, but I think it's really important, and I think it's also important to be kind to someone. Just encourage them in their schoolwork and know that anything is possible for them."

The New Nancy Drew Series Looks Like a Mix of Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
If you grew up reading the Nancy Drew mystery books as a kid, then brace yourself for a dark twist on all of her most memorable cases. Our favorite headband-wearing teenage sleuth has officially gotten her own series on The CW, and by the looks of the newly released trailer, it's already received the Riverdale treatment.
The dark and gritty trailer, which features snippets from the show's first season, follows Nancy and her friends as they navigate high school and attempt to solve Horseshoe Bay's most mysterious cases. While Nancy is definitely giving off a Betty Cooper vibe to the extreme, there are more than a few shots that had me double-taking to make sure I wasn't watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The most haunting part, though, is that the entire video is set to a cover of Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," and it had me shivering in my seat.

The film, due out in January, puts a hilarious spin on relatable themes like work-life balance and female friendship with help from its ridiculously talented leads: Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, and Salma Hayek.
In our exclusive first look at the film directed by Miguel Arteta, above, we get a glimpse of BFFs Mel and Mia (Haddish and Byrne, respectively), who have spent years building a cosmetics company from the ground up. While they've enjoyed success in the beauty industry thus far, they end up in over their heads financially just as beauty icon Claire Luna (Hayek) offers them a tempting buyout.
Will they take it? Or will passing up the offer cost them their friendship? According to Paramount's official description of the movie, "the beauty business is about to get ugly." Uh-oh.

Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp are clearly enjoying their relationship! On Saturday, the 23-year-old actor and 20-year-old actress had a steamy makeout session during a fun boat ride in Capri, Italy. While Lily-Rose rocked a leopard-print bikini, Timothée sported a pair of neon swim trunks. When the two lovebirds weren't locking lips and diving into the water, they were laughing it up as Timothée playfully carried Lily-Rose on his back.

Disneyland's Day of the Dead Ice Cream Sandwich Is Made With Multi-Colored Pan Dulce!
If Disney's Halloween treats are already making your mouth water, then prepare yourself for the park's first Dia De Los Muertos Pan Dulce Ice Cream Sandwich. Yep, in honor of Day of the Dead, Disneyland has taken an entire concha and stuffed it with dulce de leche ice cream!
The frozen treat, available for $8 at Frontierland's Rancho del Zocalo in Disneyland, is sprinkled in cinnamony churro streusel crumbles and topped with whipped cream, cajeta - a goat-milk-based caramel syrup - and an edible white chocolate sugar skull for decoration, according to Disney Food Blog. So, are you hungry yet?
Following the Mexican tradition of using bright colors as a celebration of life, the shell-like concha breads are also covered in a crunchy rainbow sugar crust, which makes them look both delicious and totally Insta-worthy. Camila Mendes Opens Up About Her Terrifying Experience With Sexual Assault in College
Camila Mendes is speaking out about her harrowing experience with sexual assault in college. In the October issue of Women's Health, the 25-year-old Riverdale star revealed that someone slipped her a date rape drug during her freshman year at NYC's Tisch School of the Arts. "I had a very, very bad experience," she recalled. "I was roofied by someone who sexually assaulted me."
While Camila didn't go into any more details about the attack, she explained that she got a tattoo above her rib cage that says, "to build a home." "I got the tattoo after my freshman year," she said, adding that the ink reminds her to strengthen her sense of self and the environment around her.
Camila - who is best known for her role as Veronica Lodge on Riverdale - has also been candid about her past struggles with an eating disorder. In the magazine, Camila admitted that she's only recently gotten better after seeing a therapist and nutritionist. "This cover means so much to me. It took me a while to view self-confidence as a product of physical and mental health, instead of appearance and thinness," Camila wrote on Instagram on Monday. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to spread that message; I could have used it way earlier in my life."
