This "Mushroom Blond" Hair Color Is About to Take Over Your Instagram Feeds
Between the new "wheat blond" hair trend sweeping Hollywood (a la Millie Bobby Brown and Dua Lipa) and the quintessential platinum that comes with the cooler months, there are a ton of hair colors you can fill your Fall inspiration board with. If you still haven't found the one to ask for at your next salon appointment, consider the new "mushroom blond" hair color.
Mushroom blond hair is exactly what it sounds like: It's a version of bronde that hairstylists at NYC-based Butterfly Studio Salon describe as being closer to "beige" or "nude." Tamara Defelice of the salon tells POPSUGAR that the look is perfect for those who got "super brassy from going the lightest shades of blond in the Summer, because it preserves hair's health all during cooler seasons."
What sets mushroom blond apart from similar hair colors its key features: the dark cool brown hue that comes from the root, and the lighter pieces that frame the face. "Don't be scared to keep or create icier blonde pieces around the face frame," Defelice said, and she suggests keeping the look toned with a color-depositing hair product like the Kerastase Bain Ultra-Violet Purple Shampoo ($33).
The hair color looks great on most hairstyles, whether it be a bob haircut or long cascading waves. Need the proof? Check out the following mushroom blond hair looks, ahead.

The True Story Behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Is Way More Disturbing Than the Movie
Tobe Hooper's 1974 film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of cinema's OG horror classics and a must see for any scary movie aficionado. Given how stomach-churning a lot of the scenes in the gory slasher can be, it's hard to imagine that the film's story has any root in reality. Unfortunately, like a lot of movies and TV shows out there, a real-life serial killer served as inspiration for the movie's chainsaw-wielding villain, Leatherface.
While a family of cannibalistic hillbillies who prey on unsuspecting teenagers is luckily not part of the original story (that we know of), the idea for Leatherface came out of the case of murderer Edward Theodore "Ed" Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield. He is suspected to have killed several victims between the years of 1954 and 1957 and remains one of the most disturbing and notorious serial killers in history.
The Origin of a Serial Killer
As a young man growing up in La Crosse, WI, in the early 1900s, Gein became obsessed with his religious fanatic of a mother, Augusta, who frequently ranted and raved about lust and carnal desire to Gein and his older brother, Henry. Henry would often criticize their mother, which infuriated Gein. In 1944, while the brothers were fighting a fire in the brush near their farm in Plainfield, WI, Henry went missing. Though he was later found by police with large bruises on his head, untouched by the fire, the officers dismissed Gein as a suspect due to his shy and docile nature.
Since he didn't have a close relationship with his alcoholic father, George, Gein obsessively cared for his mother until her death in 1945. After she passed, he took up the unsettling habit of robbing graves containing recently buried female bodies. He'd cut off body parts as souvenirs (and then return the rest of the body to the grave), which led to him experimenting with necrophilia and human taxidermy.
Michael Wincott's portrayal of Gein in Hitchcock.
Like Leatherface, he moved into a ramshackle home which he filled with his gruesome "trophies." Unlike the movie's killer, however, Gein wore the skins of his victims for reasons other than a disfiguring skin disease. To quell his desire to be a woman, he took to tanning the skins of the corpses he dug up to make corsets, leggings, belts made from female nipples, and masks so he could make a "woman suit" and become his mother. He reportedly had a vest of female skin complete with breasts attached and female genitalia to wear over his own.
He eventually went on to kill two women, Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, in his town in 1957 (and was a main suspect in many other missing persons cases). Though Leatherface uses a chainsaw throughout the film, Gein shot both of his victims with a pistol. Once caught, Gein pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was committed to a criminal mental hospital. Around a decade later, he stood trial again and was found guilty of murder and sent to the Central State Hospital in Wisconsin and the Mendota Mental Health Institute, where he later died of natural causes in 1984.
The Films He's Influenced
On top of giving Hollywood the idea for Leatherface, Gein also inspired a few other iconic horror movie characters. The first is Norman Bates, whom author Robert Bloch based off of Gein in his 1959 novel Psycho. Alfred Hitchcock later adapted the story for his hit 1960 thriller and cast Anthony Perkins as Norman. The parallels between Norman and Gein are obvious: both had an unhealthy fascination with their overbearing mothers and a love of taxidermy, and both dressed up as women in the wake of their mothers' deaths. The Silence of the Lambs fans might see connections between Gein and the Jame Gumb character (aka "Buffalo Bill"), who was created with Gein's bloody history in mind.
There have been a number of sequels to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Most recently, more than 40 years after the 1974 original hit theaters, 2017's Leatherface told the villain's origin story, offering a glimpse into how this particular character came to be. While all of these horror films are grisly, to be sure, the real-life inspiration has us far more unsettled.
Here's What These 8 Hocus Pocus Filming Locations Look Like Now

Helen Mirren Discovers the Perils of Online Dating in the Tense Trailer For The Good Liar
Online dating can be a roller coaster no matter how old you are, which Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellan prove in the tense trailer for Bill Condon's The Good Liar.
The drama, which is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Nicholas Searle, sees Mirren playing wealthy widow Betty, who thinks she's finally found a worthy connection with a charming, handsome older man she met online. Unfortunately, the man in question is career con artist Roy (McKellen), who thinks he's hit the jackpot when he realizes how much Betty is worth. Soon his plans to swindle her out of her fortune are complicated when he develops true feelings for her, and things begin to spin treacherously out of control.
Quantico's Russell Tovey and Downton Abbey actor Jim Carter also star in The Good Liar, which arrives in theaters on Nov. 15.

The New Trailer For War Drama 1917 Includes Basically Every British Actor You Love
I suggest sitting down before you watch the new trailer for Sam Mendes's upcoming war drama, 1917, since the World War I epic looks tense as f*ck.
The Skyfall director presents us with a story about two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic's George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones alum Dean-Charles Chapman), whose superior (Colin Firth) gives them a seemingly impossible mission: Sneak into enemy territory and hand-deliver a message to stop an attack set for the next morning, which has the potential to kill 1,600 men. With Blake's brother's life at risk, the two set off on a journey that has a low chance of survival for everyone involved.
In addition to MacKay, Chapman, and Firth, the cast is rounded out by Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden, Mark Strong, and Andrew Scott. Watch the trailer for 1917 above before the film arrives in theaters on Christmas Day.

I Am Inconsolable After Watching This Woman Get High and Film a Rafiki Makeup Tutorial
I don't often find myself laughing uncontrollably at makeup tutorials, but I can always count on Brandi TV to change that for me. The YouTuber, known for making hilarious videos of herself getting high and attempting to recreate looks inspired by popular movie characters, is back with an all-new under-the-influence tutorial, and this time she's taking on Rafiki, the wise baboon from The Lion King.
In the video, Brandi eats a few weed-infused caramel candies before diving into the tutorial, and needless to say, hilarity ensues as she attempts to make a beard out of an old headband and snow white hair extensions, uses old beer cans to make Rafiki's bakora stick, and even elicits some help from her chihuahua (appropriately dressed as Simba, of course) to sing "Circle of Life." The end result definitely isn't as creepy as an older tutorial she filmed, inspired by The Nun, but I do have to admit that it's quite impressive. Watch the hilarious video above and try not to keel over in laughter.
Yep, Tom Holland Shaved His Head, and We're Already Mourning His Curly Brown Locks
RIP, Tom Holland's hair. In a shoutout video made for a fan on Tuesday, the 23-year-old actor casually revealed that he's shaved off all of his curly brown locks - so, please, only refer to me as Aunt May from now on, because this might as well be Uncle Ben's funeral all over again. According to a comment on the video, Holland likely shaved his head for his role as US Army veteran Nico Walker in the upcoming crime drama film Cherry, but that doesn't change the fact that some fans now think he looks completely unrecognizable.
Twitter has gone so far as to compare him to Eminem, Justin Timberlake, and Eleven from Stranger Things. One fan even made an in memoriam video set to the tune of Sarah McLachlan's "In the Arms of the Angel" - truly heartbreaking. Was it worth it, Tom? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, see what Twitter had to say about Holland's new 'do, and please enjoy this stroll down memory lane through a few of his best hair moments.

Watch Kristen Bell Try to Stay Cool As Her Daughter Sings Lizzo At the Top of Her Lungs
Kristen Bell's daughter is feeling "good as hell" and she doesn't care who knows it. On Tuesday, Kristen shared a clip of her kid belting out her best Lizzo lyrics during their morning car ride. In typical mom fashion, Kristen kept her giggles to herself and simply appreciated her daughter's backseat show - made-up lyrics and all.
Kristen and her husband Dax Shepard are the proud parents of 6-year-old Lincoln and 4-year-old Delta. It's not clear which daughter decided to sing her heart out for Kristen's Instagram, but if we had to guess, it's probably Lincoln. Delta's incredible rendition of "Let It Go" sounded slightly different, although it looks like both of Kristen's girls have inherited her love for singing. Keep reading to see more clips, and find out how this AM jam session put a positive spin on the rest of Kristen's day.
A Dietitian Explains How to Eat Hummus Without Sabotaging Your Low-Carb Diet
There's so much to love about hummus: the creamy texture and filling protein, the way it pairs perfectly with crisp vegetables. But if you're following a low-carb diet, you may be unsure how the Mediterranean dip fits into your plan. After all, legumes are relatively high in carbohydrates, and most low-carb diets allow only 50 to 100 grams of net carbs per day. So, what's the verdict?
"The main ingredient in most hummus recipes is garbanzo beans (or chickpeas), which contain a notable amount of carbohydrates and should be consumed in moderation when on a low-carb diet," Kristen Smith, MS, RD, LD, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, told POPSUGAR. "However, most hummus recipes contain several other ingredients, including tahini and olive oil, which happen to be low in carbohydrates. When all the ingredients for hummus are combined, the outcome is a food moderate in carbohydrates."
More importantly, "all carbohydrate-containing foods in hummus are complex carbohydrates," she noted. "Complex carbs will take your body longer to digest and not cause a spike in blood sugar."
That means you can usually enjoy hummus on a low-carb diet, as long as you watch your portions. "The portion you can consume will depend on the total carbohydrates allowed per day on your plan," Kristen said. She explained that most people on a very low-carb diet can enjoy at least two tablespoons of hummus (that's 5 grams of net carbs, calculated by subtracting fiber from total carbs), while those following a more flexible plan can have at least 1/3 cup (13 grams of net carbs).
If you want to limit carbs even further, you can also try mixing up the recipe. "Hummus can be made with a variety of non-starchy vegetables, including carrots or cauliflower," Kristen told POPSUGAR. "Consider making your own, combining both garbanzo beans and cauliflower for a lower carbohydrate hummus option."

13 Scary Thoughts I Had Watching Beetlejuice Growing Up, Because That Sh*t Was Creepy
If you're like me, pretty much all of October is Halloween, and that means binging as many classic and not-so-classic scary movies as possible. As much as I enjoy horror films like Stephen King's It, Annabelle, and Jordan Peele's Us, it's the childhood favorites that stick with me, namely Tim Burton's chilling yet hilarious Beetlejuice. The film - which starred Winona Ryder, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Michael Keaton - was made to be hilariously terrifying, and it definitely succeeded. Does anyone else remember that freaky sandworm scene?!
Despite its crude humor and chilling '80s horror makeup, there was something haunting yet oddly soothing about the movie as a whole - which might explain why I freakin' love Lydia Deetz so much. It's been worthy of a watch every Halloween since 1988. Still, apart from the fact that my friends and I can pretty much quote this film by heart, it also had me shaking in my Halloween costume whenever someone got close to saying his name three times in a row. Keep scrolling to take an undead trip to the past - it's showtime!

Nick Jonas Is Joining The Voice, and Blake Shelton Is Already Trying to Scare Him
Happiness begins on Team Nick Jonas! During a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday, the youngest Jonas brother announced he'll be joining The Voice as a coach on season 18 in Spring 2020. He'll be taking the seat Adam Levine vacated back in May.
"The cat's out of the bag. I am so excited about this, I will be joining as one of the new coaches of The Voice," Nick said. "I think I'm actually looking forward to really trying to help any artist that comes on the show to grow," he continued.
Nick also received a special welcome message from his fellow coaches on Ellen's show, which included hints of a potential rivalry with Blake Shelton. Although, I'm not sure if anything will be scarier or more tense than the surprise Nick, Kevin, and Joe received at the end of the exciting announcement. Watch the full video above to see what went down, and don't forget to always keep your guard up when you're around Ellen!

Hannah Brown Channels Her Rage Against Ex-Boyfriends in Fiery DWTS Performance
Hannah Brown really did the dang thing on Dancing With the Stars this week. During Monday night's episode, the Bachelorette alum truly released her inner beast as she performed the Paso Doble with her partner Alan Bersten. Not only was the choreography insane, but Brown really channeled all her rage about the judges' recent critiques and her ex-boyfriends into the performance. It also didn't hurt that the song was set to "I Love It" by Icona Pop and Charlie XCX.
Ahead of the performance, Bersten and Brown hit up a rage room so that she could get properly into character for the number. Not only did she let out her frustrations about the judges' critiques about her being "too smiley" but she also called out her past loves as well. "These are all my ex-boyfriends!" she said while smashing a bottle to smithereens. Remind us to never get on Brown's bad side. See her fierce performance above.

Meghan Trainor Included Some Subtle Nods to Kim and Kanye in Her "Wave" Music Video
Meghan Trainor's ethereal single "Wave" featuring Mike Sabath is appropriately named - it's easy to get swept away by the majesty of the music video. The 25-year-old singer dropped the video on Monday and opened up to POPSUGAR about the inspiration behind it: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
"I told [Charm LaDonna] I was kind of inspired by Sunday Services with Kanye West and inspired by his clothing line and Kim's SKIMS," she said, referencing the dancers and choreography. "I really loved her SKIMS and how they looked and we used them in the music video. I'm wearing them and a lot of my dancers are wearing them."
Trainor's newest track is three years in the making and based on a past almost-relationship, where she felt strung along by someone who wouldn't fully commit. For the video, she collaborated with director Matthew Cullen, and choreographer Charm LaDonna to create a human experience with a subtle nod to West's latest projects.
In addition to this Yeezy-esque look, Cullen suggested Trainor forego the obvious "water" theme for her video and instead try "drowning in people." "I loved that visual because it reminded me - we're all struggling in life, in relationships, in anything, in general, but we're all in this together." Trainor said.
As for Kanye? "I hope he sees it one day, and is like 'Yeah, that's cool' because he's like my inspiration for this."
