I'm Jealous of How Much My Son Loves His Nanny, but I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way
The other day, I was standing in the kitchen chatting with my nanny when we heard my baby take a tumble in the playroom. He came in crying . . . and went right to the nanny for comfort. And I realized that my baby is likely more bonded to his nanny than he is to me and I felt horribly jealous. After I finished picking up the broken pieces of my heart, though, I came to the conclusion that maybe his preference for her is not such a bad thing.
My nanny joined our family when my son was eight months old. Following a cross-country move, I found myself in need of childcare for my baby and preschooler. Within a few weeks of posting on Care.com, I found exactly what I was looking for: a Spanish-speaking caregiver with lots of experience. Our interview confirmed my feelings about her, and when we met in person, she was gentle, firm, and loving with the children.
Both kids instantly took to her, but the baby fell head over tiny heels. In those first few months, I watched his face light up upon her arrival. If I was holding him, he would reach for her, then rest his head on her shoulder and sigh. He napped longer, ate better, and was generally more content when she was there. Once he passed the year mark and started walking and talking, he began toddling to the door as soon as he heard her car and saying her name more than "Mama."
At first, these experiences were nothing short of soul-crushing for me. I carried this child in my body for nine months. Why would he prefer another woman to his own mother? It wasn't like that with my daughter; I'd always been her special person. But logic and reason don't play well with raw emotion, so I had let myself feel my feelings and then take a step back to understand what was going on - and realize it was actually something positive.
I stayed home with my daughter until she was 18 months old, and she had me to herself that whole time. Because I went back to work sooner the second time around, my son has had more caregivers than she did. It's not too surprising that he favors the one who can give him her undivided attention. Even when I'm caring for the kids, I have laundry, meal prep, and all kinds of family management tasks on my plate.
I know it is absolutely essential for babies - for their development and long-term emotional health - to form secure attachments to the adults who take care of them. What I eventually came to terms with is that it's OK if it's with someone besides me. If I'm going to work, don't I want my children to be cared for by someone who loves them like her own? Absolutely.
I can get past my hurt feelings because I want and need to work. Work satisfies me in a way that motherhood alone does not, and that sense of fulfillment makes me a better, more engaged mom when I am on duty. That, and because I've opened myself to it, I've been able to pick up some tricks from my nanny that have helped me interact with my little one, like how stroking his head helps him fall asleep.
I won't pretend it doesn't still hurt when my baby chooses his nanny over me, but I'm better able to take it in stride. I have to remind myself that this is a situation that allows both of us to get something we need. He may spend the day loving on his nanny, but there are still plenty of hugs and kisses leftover for me. And when I put aside my jealousy, I'm better able to receive them.

Gabrielle Union Stays Motivated at the Gym Thanks to These 5 Badass Female Artists
Gabrielle Union likes to work out because it maintains her peace, she told POPSUGAR previously. Once comparing her body and goals to others, she now concerns herself with the woman in the mirror looking back at her. "The only person you should be competing against is you," she said, "and who you were the day before. And just trying to be a little bit better, a little bit more consistent, a little bit more authentic."
But the 47-year-old actress - who posts many glimpses into her sweat sessions on social media and recently opened up an Amazon storefront full of fitness essentials - also told us that she needs a good playlist to get motivated to exercise. If she's surrounded by in-the-zone, encouraging people at the gym, the only other thing that's sure to keep her going is put-in-work music.
If badass women are pumping through the airwaves - women like Beyoncé, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Saweetie (Gabrielle's cousin, fun fact), and Megan Thee Stallion, Gabrielle specified - it gives her extra motivation. "It's like sometimes you just need that song that makes you go, 'OK, OK! That's my song!'" she exclaimed. And if she doesn't know the music playing, then her workouts feel extra long (we can relate, big time). When it's one of those artists she loves, especially "the women that inspire" her, it's game on.
Ahead, check out a playlist nodding to the female singers Gabrielle listens to during workouts. You'll find the full Spotify playlist and each get-moving hit on YouTube. Stride along to Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" and lift weights with the beat of Nicki Minaj's "Megatron." We - and Gabrielle - support you!

2020 Is the Year I'm Going to Organize My Home Like Marie Kondo - Here's How
New Year's resolutions are notoriously difficult to see through all 12 months, so this year, I'm picking just a few concrete goals and going all in on execution. For 2020, I really want to get organized. Inspired by Marie Kondo's Netflix show that I finally got around to watching and the disaster that is my t-shirt drawer, I've decided to dedicate a few hours a week to really decluttering.

I'm actually really excited about this, because I feel like it will not only help me in the long term, but also give me a sense of accountability and pride in doing something for myself. If you're filled with the excitement and determination that only January can bring, keep reading to learn about what I'm shopping to make my home my sanctuary.

Trader Joe's New Kale Gnocchi Is a Sneaky Way to Get Pasta-Lovers to Eat Their Veggies
Drumroll, please! Trader Joe's is officially expanding its plant-based pasta selection with new Kale Gnocchi. That's right, the gnocchi train never stops at this beloved grocery store.
The Kale Gnocchi joins the ranks of Trader Joe's classic gorgonzola, tomato sauce, mozzarella-stuffed, cauliflower, sweet potato, and chocolate lava varieties. It features a pretty straightforward ingredient list of potato starch, chickpea flour, sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, and, of course, kale. At 190 calories per serving, it doesn't sound like a bad side dish or even main course if you're trying to squeeze in more veggies.
That said, first reactions to the recently discovered product are mixed. Shoppers are on the fence about the addition of kale to such a popular dish. But hey, if you love greens, don't let the haters get you down. The packaging suggests crisping up your gnocchi first and maybe even adding a slab of butter, ghee, or whatever flavor alternative you prefer.

The Hands-Down Best Face Moisturizers of All Time, No Matter Your Skin Type
Whittling down the perfect face moisturizer is a little like online dating: the options can feel, at times, overwhelming; the quality is, well, inconsistent; and at the end of the day, you may want different things than the person swiping next to you. (And that's OK.)
Truth is, the world of skin care isn't meant to be one-size-fits-all, so the solution becomes to look at your skin's specific needs - Is it dry? Oily? More sensitive than a toddler at bedtime? - then pick a moisturizer accordingly. It's not always easy, of course, but luckily, the beauty editors at POPSUGAR have tried an array of face creams across a spectrum of skin types to help point you in the right direction. Call us the modern-day matchmakers.
4 Nail Color Trends That'll Level Up Your Manicure Game This Year - Guaranteed
No greater indecision exists in this world than the moment you're standing in front of a wall of nail polish at the salon, hopelessly waiting for the on-trend color that will embody your mood for the next four to seven days to choir-sing your name. Now, you could: A) Let this agonizing song and dance play out from now until the end of time, or B) Take matters into your own hands and nail every manicure you get this year.
The first step is to try to think about it all a little less. "I anticipate the overarching theme for 2020 will be about having more fun with your nails, represented not only by color, but by effect and finish," said NYC-based manicurist and founder of her eponymous brand Jin Soon Choi. "Traditional pastels will morph into cool, bright 'punch' colors, and you will see simple yet strong designs in 2020."
Whether you're after poppy shades that reach highlight fluorescent levels or one step above what you'd get from your average neutral, this year's nail color trends will not disappoint. Ahead, Choi breaks down the most fail-proof polishes to buy - so you can redirect your stress to trying to pay without smudging your nails in your purse like the rest of us.

In fact, the '90s had incredible shows and movies that, looking back, really pushed forward animation for kids. Check out some of our favorites that are currently streaming on Netflix ahead.

Costco's Cauliflower-Based Queso Dip Is Totally Vegan, So Who's Ready For a Fiesta?
Please excuse me if you can hear my stomach grumbling through the screen, but Costco's plant-based queso dip has caught my attention, and I haven't stopped thinking about it all day. The $8 dip, created by Good Foods, is made with clean ingredients, including cauliflower, red bell peppers, almonds, almond butter, apple cider vinegar, red onions, lemon juice, garlic, and additional spices. Are you salivating yet? (I know I am.)
The healthy ingredient list means the dip is gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and keto-friendly - so I'm definitely breaking out the pita chips and veggie sticks for this sometime soon. At only 45 calories per serving (two tablespoons), the queso makes for a tasty everyday snack or a perfect party dip. After all, can you really call it a party if your chips-and-dip game isn't absolutely amazing? Take a peek at the delicious-looking snack ahead.
