Halsey Perfectly Embodies Ariel as She Sings "Part of Your World" on Disney Singalong

On Sunday's Disney Family Singalong, Halsey sang "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid and completely embodied Ariel after she first emerges from the water. It was the perfect complement to Rebel Wilson's earlier performance as Ursula, and Halsey added the right amount of modern flair to the classic Disney tune.

Just like the previous iteration, the Disney Family Singalong helped raise money for Feeding America and included a number of performances from stars like Keke Palmer, Ben Platt, and many more. Watch the full clip above if you're wondering if Halsey has gadgets and gizmos aplenty in her performance.

Chloe x Halle Team Up With Disney Princess, Anika Noni Rose, For Singalong Performance

The Disney Family Singalong returned for round two on Sunday with a handful of new stars added to its roster. Among them were Chloe x Halle and Anika Noni Rose, who graced our TV screens with a gorgeous rendition of "Almost There" from Rose's 2009 film, Princess and the Frog. We already knew that the ladies could sing, but their vocal prowess still manages to blow us away every single time.

The Disney Family Singalong once again raised money for Feeding America and included a handful of other incredible performances from stars like Idina Menzel, Ben Platt, Halsey, Shakira, and Josh Gad. Watch Chloe x Halle and Rose's captivating at-home performance above now.

Good News, Hoops Fans: The Last Dance Is Officially Headed to Netflix

New docuseries The Last Dance follows the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls as they make one last run for the NBA championship, and it's been a massive hit with viewers. But while the series is coproduced by ESPN and Netflix, under the terms of their agreement, only the sports network has had rights to air episodes in the United States - until now. According to a report from Variety, The Last Dance will arrive on Netflix on July 19.

If you can't wait that long, you can still get caught up if you have ESPN. The network aired the first two episodes on April 19, and it will continue dropping two per week, on Sundays at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, through May 17. After they air, the episodes become available almost immediately on ESPN.com and the ESPN app. On Mondays, the latest episodes hit Netflix - but not in the United States. At least not right now.

The series won't be available on ESPN+ until July 2021, and there are seemingly no plans to release episodes of The Last Dance on any other streaming services. Although ESPN is part of the Disney family, the company has not put any of its ESPN content on Disney+. But for basketball fans (and anyone craving some '90s nostalgia), the documentary is well worth the wait.

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant Were Rivals and "Close Friends" - See Their Photos

The fifth episode of ESPN's The Last Dance opens with a veteran Michael Jordan in the locker room of the 1998 NBA All-Star Game, bantering with his Eastern Conference teammates about 19-year-old Kobe Bryant, who would become the youngest player ever to start in the annual matchup. "That little Laker boy's gonna take everybody one-on-one," Jordan says. "He don't let the game come to him. He just go out there and take it." Moments later, as the game is getting underway, Bob Costas introduces Bryant as "the man many have dubbed the next Michael Jordan."

It was far from the last time these two deeply competitive players would be pitted against each other. But despite the comparisons and tensions on the court, the men formed a lasting friendship. "It was a rough couple of years for me to come into the league because at the time, the league was so much older. It's not as young as it is today," explains Bryant, in previously unseen footage filmed prior to his death. "At that point, Michael provided a lot of guidance for me." Bryant credits his "big brother" and mentor for the role he played in his success: "I don't get five championships here without him, because he guided me so much and gave me so much great advice."

Bryant wasn't alone in his admiration. In a tearful eulogy at a memorial service for Bryant and his daughter Gianna in February, Jordan explained that maybe it would come as a surprise to some that the two were friends, "but we were very close friends . . . He was like a little brother." He went on to describe what younger siblings are like within a family: always getting into your things and asking you questions. "At first, it was an aggravation," Jordan joked about his relationship with Bryant - but eventually, he came to love those late-night texts and phone calls, and breaking down the game with someone so passionate about it. "He wanted to be the best basketball player that he could be. And as I got to know him, I wanted to be the best big brother that I could be," Jordan said.

In the end, Bryant's ambition and competitive drive earned Jordan's respect - and fueled perhaps one of the most unlikely friendships in the history of sports. Keep reading to see some of the moments they shared during their legendary careers.

At the Height of His Career, Michael Jordan Made Almost as Much as Players Do Today

For anyone watching The Last Dance, the ESPN series documenting the biggest years of Michael Jordan's life and career with the Chicago Bulls, it should come as no surprise that the basketball legend's salary was astronomical. While society has grown accustomed to superstar athletes getting paid millions of dollars per year, Jordan made a lot of money even by those standards. Here's how he became one of the highest-paid players in history.

First Years With the Bulls

Jordan is, of course, best known for winning six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls. The details of his contract during the earliest years of his career are less well-known (he was drafted by the Bulls in 1984), but by the time the 1990s rolled around, he was well on his way to legend status, and his salary reflected that. According to USA Today's "HoopsHype," Jordan's annual salary ranged from around $2.5 million to $4 million between 1990 and 1996. (Note that there's a gap from 1993-1994, when he temporarily stepped away from the game.) His salary broke down as follows, with numbers not adjusted for inflation:

  • 1990-91: $2.5 million
  • 1991-92: $3.25 million
  • 1992-93: $4 million
  • 1994-95: $3.85 million
  • 1995-96: $3.85 million

A Record-Breaking Final Run

In the final years of his career, Jordan made so much money that it exceeded the salary cap, the spending limit an organization must stay under for its entire team's salaries. How did the Bulls manage this? According to an NBC report, they were able to take advantage of loopholes in the rules in order to pay Jordan truly massive salaries in the late '90s. In the 1995-96 season, Jordan made $3.85 million - a hefty amount by any standard. But the terms of his contract meant that he was able to get exponentially more in the years to come.

Jordan became a free agent in 1996 when that contract expired, which meant that the rules on the salary cap didn't apply the same way anymore; at the time, teams were allowed to exceed the salary cap in order to sign or re-sign their own players. As a result, he was able to sign a one-year contract for $30.1 million for the 1996-97 season. They then repeated the process for the 1997-1998 season, when the salary cap was roughly $27 million. Jordan again signed a one-year contract, this time for $33.1 million, which NBC notes was the highest single-season salary in NBA history until the start of the 2017 season, when both LeBron James and Steph Curry made more.

Jordan briefly retired between 1999 and 2001, but he made one more comeback in Sept. 2001, when he announced that he had signed a two-season deal with the Washington Wizards. This time, he said he would donate his salary to 9/11 relief efforts, as reported by the New York Times.

The Best Piece of Advice My Mom Gave Me Is Simple but So Valuable

Everyone knows that growing up is hard. I still remember my awkward and confusing teenage years so vividly. While a lot of kids shut down and stop talking to their parents when they're teens, I still always made sure to talk to - and more importantly listen to - mine. And of all the advice my mother has given me over the years (and there has been a LOT), one thing has always stuck out in my mind as being the most important.

"What other people think about you is none of your business."

So simple, and so true.

As I've grown up, I've realized just how difficult this particular concept is for people, and still sometimes, myself. Worrying about what other people think keeps us from experiencing our own happiness, and when you think about it that way, how dare you let that happen to your own life?

My mom first told me this when I was a young teen, and it actually brought me a lot of comfort. During a time when it seems like other people's opinions are all that matter in life, it was a wonderful thing to cling to. Anytime I wanted to do things like try out for a team or club, wear a unique outfit, or stand up for myself or someone else, I would think of this simple sentence, and find courage. Flipping through my senior yearbook and seeing a few people's comments about times I stood in their corner is still something I feel proud of.

Funnily enough, once you work on yourself as a person and focus inward, all those outside noises, opinions, and thoughts fade away naturally.

While I definitely didn't master this back then, and still work at it now, liberating myself from other people's opinions over the years has freed me to try new things, make new friends, and become the kind of person who speaks their mind in a thoughtful yet honest way. And in a world where everyone is a celebrity with their own brand through social media, it was fantastic practice to figure out the difference between doing things for myself and doing things purely for validation from others.

Perhaps one of the most important times in my life I've applied this idea to was when I decided to graduate college early, move to Los Angeles, and audition through an agent. How many eye-rolls or whispers there were behind my back for pursuing such a lofty goal, I don't know, but I'm positive there were plenty. But I had the time of my life going out there and trying something, no matter how impossible it seemed, because I loved acting and singing. I felt brave and empowered by my own will, and I didn't have enough time to care what other people thought because I needed to put my desires first. And you know what? I don't regret a single thing. I never have to wonder "what if?" for the rest of my life, and that alone feels like an accomplishment.

No, it didn't work out. But I went out there and I had some pretty incredible experiences and opportunities. And because of it, I'm more comfortable than ever in interviews, meeting new people, and trying new things (nothing is as awkward as auditioning). The experience helped shape who I am.

It's a part of the human condition to wonder what other people think and how we come across. The idea of a reputation can be very fragile indeed. However, it's how we feel about ourselves that's the most important. Funnily enough, once you work on yourself as a person and focus inward, all those outside noises, opinions, and thoughts fade away naturally. People can sense that positive confidence.

My mom's words have helped navigate me through my teens, 20s, and now my 30s, allowing me to make decisions that are right for me. People just are who they are. Sometimes you gel well with others, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you agree with people, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you appreciate their style, attitude, or brand of humor, and sometimes you don't. That's life. To restrict your authentic self based on fear of what someone might say about you behind your back is a huge waste of time.

After all, mom always knows best.

Chloe Fineman and Melissa Villaseñor's Celebrity Impressions on SNL Were Truly *Chef's Kiss*

Saturday Night Live's season 45 finale did not disappoint. Following Kristen Wiig's hilarious monologue, Chloe Fineman and Melissa Villaseñor tried their hand at celebrity impressions during the MasterClass: Quarantine Edition skit, and they totally crushed them! Fineman made us do a double take while teaching journaling as Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Villaseñor showed us all "how to master suits" as John Mulaney. But perhaps the best moment was when Fineman channeled her inner Britney Spears! Yep, she even got her yoga moves and voice down! Honestly, just do yourself a favor and watch the entire thing above now.

Kristen Wiig Brought Her A-Game to the SNL Monologue, and I'm Still Laughing

Saturday Night Live's season 45 finale kicked off with an opening monologue from none other than Kristen Wiig. For the show's third at-home episode, Kristen rolled out of bed, slipped on some sequins, and flashed the camera before launching into a full dance sequence. Things quieted down as she sent her mom some well wishes and sang - er, belted - a lullaby.

Live tapings of SNL shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the show returned with its first-ever "SNL At Home" edition on April 11, when Tom Hanks opened with a monologue delivered from his kitchen. Since then, the writers have gotten creative with their skits as cast members and celebrity guests film remotely. Brad Pitt transformed into Dr. Anthony Fauci for the latest episode, which also included a hilarious Kate McKinnon sketch starring her cat as a coworker, plus a memorable performance from Miley Cyrus.

Saturday Night Live Delivered a Special PSA For Parents: "Let Kids Drink"

Saturday Night Live has a message for parents during this challenge time: "Let kids drink." In a video called "Song For the Kids," the cast members share some advice for families. "Let kids drink just like mom and dad," they sing, joking, "If they've got a little buzz on, would it really be that bad?" Cut to scenes of toddlers drinking from a different kind of bottle, and babies cuddled up with wine.

Oh, and it wouldn't be a song for kids without an appearance from Olaf, right? Frozen's Josh Gad joined in, singing, "And now here's a bedtime story: it's vodka, soda, lime." Watch the silly video, which includes some memorable lyrics: "Just a couple sips... They'll be happier and funnier, and they'll fall asleep by six."

Bump, Set, Spike: A Pro Women's Volleyball League Is Coming to the US in 2021

We're soaking up all the good sports news we can find right now, and this definitely qualifies: an American women's indoor volleyball league has officially come together and is due to start playing in February 2021.

Athletes Unlimited Volleyball is set to be a partnership between USA Volleyball and Athletes Unlimited, a company looking to change the face of pro sports through major structural changes such as faster play and a focus on individual athletes, as opposed to location-based teams. (The company has already announced plans for an inaugural women's softball league to start play in August 2020.) The volleyball league will follow an inventive structure in which individual players earn points for every win. Four top-performing players will be named captains and tasked with choosing new rosters every week. Instead of traveling from city to city, each game in the six-week league will be played at a single site.

The new league has already attracted USA Volleyball players Molly McCage, Foluke Akinradewo, and Jordan Larson, the latter two bronze and silver medalists from the past two Olympic Games, with more US stars and recent NCAA grads expected to sign on. "I've been a professional volleyball athlete for a decade now," Akinradewo told the Associated Press. "Every time we want to . . . play professionally we have to leave the country to do it." Playing professionally at home will be "so special," said Akinradewo, who currently competes in a pro Japanese league. (She told AP she plans to continue doing so while participating in the new league.)

Since the '80s, various attempts have been made to start pro American indoor volleyball leagues, most recently the Premier Volleyball League, which appears to have folded following its 2016 season. The new league and its player-focused format is outside the box compared to previous attempts, but the experimentation is a welcome change for players. "They're empowering the athletes," Akinradewo said. "We get to kind of determine the rules and we have a big say in things. It's really the opposite of the life we're living overseas."

Ring Ring: Just Calling to Let You Know Neve Campbell Is in Talks For Scream 5

What would Scream be without Sidney Prescott? Fortunately, that seems to be a reality scary-movie fans won't have to grapple with, as Neve Campbell recently revealed she's been in talks to revive the iconic character for Scream 5, which is reportedly in early development at Spyglass. "We're having conversations," the actress told Rotten Tomatoes. "I have been approached about it."

Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are slated to direct the fifth installment, and Campbell said they had been "negotiating" her involvement just at the start of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has had an obvious effect on the entertainment industry at large. Campbell said, "We only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it's going to take some time to figure out how it's all going to work out."

Campbell also intimated that she felt the directors would do right by the franchise's mastermind, the late Wes Craven. "The two directors wrote me a very touching letter about Wes Craven and how he was such an inspiration to them and how they really want to honor him, and that meant a great, great deal to me," Campbell said. "So we'll see. Hopefully, we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it."

"I love Sidney Prescott."

On appearing in all four films over 15 years, Campbell said, "I'm so grateful for these films." She added, "I love Sidney Prescott. It's always fun for me to step back in her shoes, and it's always fun for me to see the cast come back and make one of these films again and try to make another good one."
