Milan Fashion Week Just Started - But We Already Choose Gucci
If any fashion label was currently "trending," it'd be Gucci. Designer Alessandro Michele's Dionysus bag is on the arm of celebrities and street style stars alike, and a particular funky-fresh Spring '16 gown has covered a handful of magazines and even made an appearance on The Tonight Show.
So what do you give the girls who can't get enough of your incredibly vibrant and instantly iconic looks? More. More sweaters covered in quirky graphics, but this time they take new silhouettes, amped up with padded sleeves, ruffles, and fur. More pussy-bow blouses and dresses, only now splashed with psychedelic '60s-inspired patterns.
What's new? Michele has collaborated with street artist GucciGhost, aka Trevor Andrew, who casually painted the brand's logo - as is his signature - onto a midi skirt and the backs of jackets, then dripped his handwriting down a luxe leather shopper. While some might look down upon the idea of "copying," the Gucci team was in love with Andrew's creations from the start. We can't blame them - if possible, the prints add even more flavor to what's surely one of the most vibrant runway debuts we've seen this season.
Read on to see the line in full, which speaks just as strongly to a young customer - with its loud colors and sporty varsity socks - as it does to starlets about to take the red carpet at the Oscars this Sunday. One thing's for sure: anyone who appreciates good craft, the ability to work a mishmash of influences and trends into a collection that still defines a brand, will love Michele's latest offering.
- Trends: Ruffles, '60s prints, granny-chic fur-muff sleeves, pussy-bows and scarves.
- Colors: From bright red to Big Bird yellow, lime, and sherbet hues, the whole color wheel is present here.
- Key Look: A one-shouldered gown that embodies Michele's ability to infuse a variety of trends into one design. Fur lining plays up a floral, one-shoulder bodice that gets a modern touch with a rainbow tulle skirt.
- Stars Who'd Wear It: Bold brand loyalists like Dakota Johnson, spunky fashionistas like Solange Knowles, and boho-feminine types like Florence Welch.
- Bags: Bright new bags in a rainbow of colors, mostly square-shaped, plenty of which are splashed with GucciGhost's graffiti-like art.
- Shoes and Other Accessories: Furry-finished Mary-Janes, metallic sandals that feel old-school cool, T-straps adorned with pearls, to match the long necklaces that are layered onto plenty of looks.
More photos to come.
