Mom Writes a Thank-You to the Cop Who Pulled Over Her and Her 1-Year-Old Son

Driving to the hospital at 3 a.m. with her 1-year-old son, Mindy Matthewson wasn't expecting to have a run-in with the local sheriff's department. Pulling over Matthewson, Deputy Kyle Cleveringa was expecting to give a ticket for a broken taillight and license plate light, not to find a worried mother and a small boy with labored breathing in the back seat. After Cleveringa assessed the situation, he told Matthewson to continue driving to the hospital with her son.

In a post to Woodbury County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, Matthewson described what happened next.

He followed me to the hospital, helped me carry my things into the ER, offered to hold my son while I filled out paper work, gave my son a stuffed toy truck, and was helping to comfort him by talking to him and giving him high-fives. My family and I are very thankful for deputy Cleveringa and everything he did for my son and I this morning. He went above and beyond and I cannot thank him enough.

And as for her son's breathing and that pesky taillight? "P.S. My son is fine and I will fix those lights ASAP!"
