Senior Dog Joins His Human's Wedding Before Passing Away a Few Days Later
Charlie Bear was an integral part of Kelly O'Connell's life for 15 years. She knew her time with him was drawing to a close when he was diagnosed with cancer last year and his health rapidly declined. But Charlie knew he couldn't let go until he saw his human get married to the love of her life and be a part of her big day.
Kelly found Charlie when he was just 12 weeks old, according to BuzzFeed. She brought him home and they've been best friends ever since. And when Kelly met her future husband and his sons, Charlie fit seamlessly into their lives, making them a happy family unit.
When it came time for the wedding, Kelly knew she wanted Charlie there, but she was concerned that his declining health would take him from her before she could walk down the aisle. But Charlie held on and made it down the aisle to Kelly on her wedding day Sept. 1. Kelly said she "immediately broke down" when Charlie walked down the aisle to her.
Kelly said she could "see it in his eyes" that Charlie held on in his final days for her. Kelly had to put Charlie down just a short week later, on Sept. 9, in their home. "It was a phenomenal moment," she said. "It was a phenomenal 15 years. That's for sure."
