The 2016 Spanish Lottery Christmas Ad Will Leave You Weeping
It wouldn't be the Christmas season without a charming Spanish lottery ad to remind you what the holidays are all about. Given that the proverbial pot of gold is worth a whopping $2.4 billion (and counting!), this five-minute minimovie titled "December 21st" is also a gentle nudge to its viewers to play - after, you know, you've wiped your tears and composed yourself.
This is the third consecutive year la lotería has left its advertising efforts in the hands of Leo Burnett Madrid, and it's easy to see why. While last year's "Justino" was an animated work of art, this year, there's a unique story about an elderly woman, Carmina, who mistakenly thinks she's won on Dec. 21, one day earlier than the actual draw. Nonetheless, her son and grandson rally the village to stand behind her presumed victory, celebrating with her as she beams with excitement. As if that wasn't enough to bring on the waterworks, what Carmina does at the end is the ultimate tearjerking Christmas gesture. Grab your tissues, and press play above to see the full thing!
