This Is Us: How William's Death Is About to Affect Beth
As This Is Us approaches its season one finale, we are growing more and more anxious about whether or not Jack will die, but there is one death from which we're still recovering. William's exit was certainly one of the most heartbreaking moments on the show - even the cast couldn't contain their tears - and it seems like that sadness will only continue. POPSUGAR recently had a chance to talk with Susan Kelechi Watson during the NBC Press Day, and she gave us a little bit of insight about the show's upcoming episodes. While William's death will no doubt affect Randall, it will also have an "emotional impact" on her character, Beth. "It has a big affect on Beth," she said. "They went from being these strangers, to getting to know each other, then kind of being family, then him being a father figure and a friend, and then she loses him."
While there is a lot of speculation about the season one finale, we're also eager to know more about season two. Even though Watson wouldn't reveal the specifics, she did say the writers are taking their time perfecting the upcoming storylines. "We [the actors] have an opportunity to talk about that as we go into it," she said. "I get to discuss with them about what they're thinking and what I'm thinking." As far as what she hopes gets tackled next season, she would love to see more of Beth's backstory, including where she is from and who her family is. We couldn't agree more - we want to meet Randall's in-laws!
