So Apparently Jimmy Carter Actually Voted For Bernie, Not Hillary
When Jimmy Carter sat down with Sen. Bernie Sanders on May 8, the former president made an interesting revelation: in the 2016 Democratic primaries, he actually voted for Sanders over Hillary Clinton.
The two men met at the Carter Center in Georgia that evening to discuss politics and human rights. In true Sanders fashion, the former presidential nominee discussed America's need for higher voter participation. "We have got to get people involved," Sanders said. "And you do that by being honest about the real problems they face and come up with real solutions." That's when Carter turned to the crowd to say, "Can y'all see why I voted for him?"
The 39th president's comment comes as a bit of a surprise, considering he admitted in July 2015 that he predicted Hillary Clinton would seal the party nomination, according to The Washington Post. Plus, in July 2016, after Sanders conceded the nomination to Clinton, Carter officially endorsed the former secretary of state.
