Why James Corden Just Sent 297 Copies of an Old Tom Hanks Movie to Donald Trump
Late night host James Corden is not letting Donald Trump ignore the HIV/AIDS crisis any longer. Earlier this week, it was reported that six members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS quit because they felt Trump "simply does not care" about the epidemic. During a segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Corden said that Trump needs to change his attitude, and he could start by learning more about the disease and the people it impacts.
Corden said that he first came understand the crisis through the 1993 Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington movie Philadelphia, and that Trump could benefit from watching the famous movie himself. So, what did Corden do? After initially being rejected by the White House, he sent 297 copies of the movie to Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. He sent every single copy of the movie he could find in hopes of getting Trump to watch the film . . . Blu-ray copies included!
"We hope that if Trump watches Philadelphia, he'll understand two things," Corden said. "One, Tom Hanks definitely deserved that Oscar. And number two, we hope that he'll realize that HIV and AIDS is something that you or any president of the United States, or any world leader for that matter, can never afford to ignore."
Corden also pointed out that out of the 1.1 million people in the United States living with HIV and AIDS, around 60 percent of whom don't have access to life-saving medications.
