This Cooling Jelly Conditioner Is Like Nothing I've Ever Put in My Hair

If you have a bathroom cabinet full of sheet masks, revitalizing masks, and clay masks, then you and I have a lot in common. When I'm looking to hydrate, deep cleanse my pores, or find something that delivers that just-right dose of glow, I'm reaching for a mask.

And lucky for us, some genius was out there, watching our infatuation, and decided that masking shouldn't be limited to our faces. That genius's name is Nancy Twine, founder of the clean beauty brand Briogeo. In an oversaturated market, she has gifted us a designated haircare collection that isn't just natural - it's effective.

Sometimes a product enters your life, and even though you didn't know you needed it, you come to find out that you can't live without it. This was the case with Briogeo's Charcoal + Peppermint Oil Cooling Jelly Conditioner ($36), the unexpected chill that your hot shower has been asking for. Its texture, a smooth, coconut-oil and panthenol based gel, glides onto hair effortlessly. And the tingle that follows is sure to make you return for more.

The directions tell you to massage evenly into wet hair from scalp to ends for 15 to 30 seconds. After a couple weeks of consistent use, I broke the rules to let the combination of peppermint, tea tree, and spearmint oils linger longer. This conditioning treatment lives under Briogeo's Scalp Revival Collection, and the brand sums it up as "a cooling gel sheet mask for your scalp." I was happy to report that it didn't just live up to its claims of calming, hydrating, and detoxifying my scalp, it far exceeded them. My hair actually felt squeaky clean, and it had the added benefit of smelling unbelievably delicious - if you're into that kind of thing.

But what preceded the conditioning treatment is also important, because much like the conditioning hair mask, the Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo ($42) is unlike anything I have ever tried on my hair. If I didn't hook you at "exfoliating," let me go into a little more detail: this shampoo is thick with a light, granular texture, reinventing the way you think about shampoo in the 30 to 60 seconds you're massaging it into your scalp. Like the conditioner, hints of tea tree oil are evident, making it similarly refreshing in scent. And aside from the texture of this product, the other thing that makes it totally different is that it doesn't lather quite like a normal shampoo.

After a Winter like this one - one that won't seem to end - my scalp was dry, itchy and admittedly a little flaky. The one-two punch of these products actively purified and soothed my scalp. Even after just one use, my hair felt less irritated, and there were noticeably less flakes. (And I would know. This is New York, and I wear a lot of black.)
