With his wife, Jodie Turner-Smith, just days away from her April 1 due date, soon-to-be dad Joshua Jackson is relying on his Little Fires Everywhere costars Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon for advice. Feeling anxious about Jodie giving birth during this uncertain time, he told Buzzfeed's AM to DM that he's been doing his best to prepare for his daughter's arrival.
"We were kind of social distancing anyway, just getting into the nesting phase," he said. "The only real difficult part right now is how to interface with the medical community. Obviously, we have to, and we are just trying to take that one day by day, to try to figure out what the best and healthiest way is. I've never been a parent before, so I'm not quite sure how much of this is just first-baby anxiety and how much of this is pandemic anxiety."
Aside from his obvious worries about the spread of the novel coronavirus, Joshua asked Reese and Kerry everything from getting the best healthcare to what he should be doing before the baby comes. "In the very beginning, I was like, who [do] I go to as an OB? What are the things I need to know now?" But with two moms on set, he had an amazing support system. "But also, as it got a little bit deeper into it, just, like, how do you integrate your home life?"
For Joshua, who keeps his private life, well, private, he was curious how Reese and Kerry balance their careers with being a parent. "I have always kept my personal life and my work life pretty separate," he explained. "But I don't think I want to do that going forward, because I want to obviously have my child around when I'm at work - and just asking them how they integrate those two things and how they create an environment inside a set environment that's a healthy place for a kid to be, because it's often not."
Joshua has Reese and Kerry to thank for keeping him grounded during his understandable times of uncertainty. After all, there are a lot of unknowns when becoming a parent for the first time. "Like, holy Moses! This is happening!" he said, and added of his costars' responses to his anxiety: "And [Reese and Kerry] just both being like, 'It's OK! This is normal! It's alright. Just breathe. You're going to be good.'"
