MAC Cosmetics Is Enabling Your Makeup Addiction With a New App
Quite frequently, our designated beauty budget ends up going to MAC Cosmetics. Collaborations like MAC x Taraji, innovative new lipstick formulas, and more exciting products end up luring money out of our wallets on an all-too-consistent basis. And now, we have a whole new reason to fork over major cash to the brand: MAC is launching its very first app.
Available from both iTunes and Google Play, the program's features will allow you to access your MAC Select membership, redeem benefits (like previewing and purchasing new collections before everyone else!), locate your nearest store, and - of course - shop the brand. You'll also be able to review your shopping history, so you'll never be stumped at the counter when you're in need of a refill. Even better, it'll help you find your nearest MAC counter, because beauty retail therapy is a real and necessary thing.
The app is free and available now, so go ahead and download, but don't blame us if this sends you on a shopping spree.

Michael Phelps's Son, Boomer, Loves the Water Just as Much as He Does
Michael Phelps stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday and gave the audience a little insight about what he does with all of his Olympic gold medals. Not only did he bring one from Rio with him to show Ellen and cohost Kristen Bell, but he also revealed that he has a secret hiding place for them all. "Probably only two people in the world know where they are," he explained. Of course, his appearance wouldn't be complete if he didn't talk about his adorable son, Boomer. After revealing that his little guy loves the water, the host surprised the swimmer with Boomer's very own swimming pool.

The Seemingly Good Habit That Causes You to Eat an Extra 500 Calories Daily
Anyone who's ever been part of the Clean Plate Club probably has suspected this, but a new, large study from the UK confirms it: we eat far more calories than we need when served food on large plates and with large utensils.
The study, conducted by the University of Cambridge, reviewed results from 61 studies and 6,700 participants and found that people consistently consume more food and drinks when offered larger portions, either when in packages or on plates, than when offered smaller-sized portions. Just the size of your plate can lead to eating about 527 more calories per day in the US and 279 calories in the UK, the researchers found.
"Our findings highlight the important role of environmental influences on food consumption," said co-lead author Dr. Gareth Hollands. "Helping people to avoid 'overserving' themselves or others with larger portions of food or drink by reducing their size, availability and appeal in shops, restaurants and in the home, is likely to be a good way of helping lots of people to reduce their risk of overeating."
The researchers say just small changes like changing the type of glasses, cutlery, and tableware used for serving, repackaging products so serving sizes are more clearly demarcated, or placing food further away from purchasers to make them less accessible could all help reduce overconsumption by as much as 16 percent in the UK and 29 percent in the US. While food manufacturers are unlikely to take steps to discourage you to buy their products, you can take matters into your own hands at home. When serving food, use salad plates instead of large dinner plates, measure out servings instead of eyeballing it, and use smaller utensils to eat (if you need help, these portion-control products make figuring out serving sizes easy for anyone). Not only is cooking for yourself healthier than eating out, but you also might just save over 500 calories a day - the equivalent of a pound a week!

Blink and You'll Miss Cara Delevingne's Edgy, Minimalist Body Paint
Short of tattoos and henna designs, body paint is not something we see worn all that frequently in everyday life. But now, thanks to Cara Delevingne, we think it should be. The model-turned-actress attended the Spring 2017 Burberry show during London Fashion Week rocking a thick black stripe as her newest accessory.
Because Cara was already wearing a black dress, the paint appeared to be part of her outfit at first glance. The stripe trailed from beneath her chin down into her plunging neckline, making the avant-garde style more sexy than severe.
If you're brave enough, you could easily re-create this look yourself with black eyeliner (we're particularly fond of MAC Cosmetics Fluidline in Blacktrack ($17)). It'll be especially easy to pull off if you wear all black like Cara did! And if you're concerned about the color fading over the course of an evening, don't be. A little bit of sweat makes this surprisingly sultry style even more sensual. Read on to see for yourself!

Experts Say Eliminating Middle Schools Will Make Those Years Easier For Our Kids
The middle school years, or as many refer to them, "the most awkward years of a child's life," are a time we can all look back on now as adults and say with confidence were "the worst." Did we really need to add insult to injury and host those three inevitable tween years full of frizzy hair, acne, and braces in a separate school? A recent study says maybe not.
Although some kids can go through middle school under the radar, for a lot of children, that time period is stressful - think bullying, adjusting to a new environment, a heavier work load, and endless body changes. According to a study published in the American Educational Research Journal, which compared kids who attended grades 6-8 in either a separate school, a K-8 school, or a 6-12 school, these years could be much less stressful for everyone involved if they took place tacked onto the end of elementary school.
The study's researchers examined what's called the "top dog"/"bottom dog" phenomenon, "which states that students at the top of a grade span ('top dogs') have better experiences than those at the bottom ('bottom dogs')." In K-8 schools, the "bottom dog" scenario was eliminated, and the tween students were the "top dogs." This had a positive impact on everything from sense of belonging to academic achievement, and it resulted in decreased incidents of bullying and fighting.
In short, these kids were much less stressed and happier at school than those who attended a separate middle school or a 6-12 high school.
Although the "bottom dog" scenario would eventually come into play once a student entered high school, pushing it back those three years gives a child more time to enjoy their childhood and gear up for a big change at 14 - as puberty is ending, and self-confidence has been building - rather than at 11 years old.
DIY Your Own (Cheap!) Makeup Setting Spray With Just 2 Ingredients
Setting sprays have become a makeup bag essential, perfect for sealing foundation so that it stays in place and emphasizing the pigment in eye shadows and the like. However, they can get pricey. Thankfully, this new DIY is cutting through those costs to deliver an affordable setting spray option that still gets the job done.
Beauty vlogger Tonje of Fluke of Makeup recently shared her homemade formula that just takes two ingredients and a few minutes to make. While commercial setting sprays usually require special polymers, fragrant extracts, glycerin, and water, Tonje emphasizes that those last two ingredients are the most essential. The water adds moisture, and the glycerin acts as a glue that locks it (and your makeup!) into your skin.
You can re-create the spray by pouring four teaspoons of glycerin into an empty spray bottle and filling the rest up with water. In the video, Tonje adds a few spritzes of perfume to add a fragrance, however, we'd be wary of adding this into the mix as it could irritate your complexion. Instead, we recommend adding rosewater or a light essential oil if you'd like an added scent.

Prince William Opens Up About the "Sad, Dark" Realities of Being an Air Ambulance Pilot
It might seem like Prince William's life is all fun and games, but it's important to remember that in between his charming outings with wife Kate Middleton and his adorable moments with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, he has a very serious, sometimes dangerous career as an air ambulance pilot. In a new BBC film celebrating National Air Ambulance Week in the UK, William opened up about the realities of his job and how he and his co-workers get through it. "If you share the same, in some cases, sad incidents, then you can get over it together by being able to talk about it in the future. Being a close team you come away with a collective way of dealing with it together, and it helps you move on to whatever you've got to do next," he said. "There are some very sad, dark moments and we talk about it a lot. But it's hard. You try not to take it away with you but it can be quite difficult."
William, who has been quite busy visiting a number of different charities lately, said that part of what keeps him going is the bond he has with his fellow pilots at the East Anglian Air Ambulance, who have now become his close friends. He joked around with a few of them in the BBC video, revealing more of his lighthearted nature than ever. "Within literally an hour of being with me, it's fairly obvious you can go quite far with me and I can take most things and I'm happy to give most things," he said. "When I first got here, it was very polite. It's now got a lot worse as they've gotten to know me and their inhibitions have gone. I've gotten worse nicknames, as I've gone up the ladder." The prince has been a part of the EAAA, based in Cambridge, since 2015, and even brought Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to tour the air base in July.
Although he still very much maintains his duties as a member of the royal family, his two roles obviously could not be more different. "I look forward to coming here every day whether it is at 5:30, or going to bed at 2 in the morning," he added. "The shift work is exciting and it's challenging for its variety and the fact that I love working in a team. That's something that my other job doesn't necessarily do. You are more out there on your own a little bit, but I very much enjoy working with [the team] and it's good fun."

Kendall Jenner's New Vogue Shoot Is Infuriating Ballerinas Everywhere
Kendall Jenner was just going about her day, modeling for Spanish Vogue, when the stylists asked her to dress up like a ballerina. "NBD," she probably thought, slipping into cozy ribbed turtlenecks with tights and leg warmers, a bodysuit, and a breezy chiffon wrap skirt. Kendall was just doing her job, playing into the theme of the shoot, but some pesky Twitter users were not impressed.
In fact, they had plenty to say about the supermodel impersonating a professional dancer. Of course, there's no denying Kendall looks graceful in front of the camera, but perhaps not as natural as readers had hoped. Read on to see some of the harsh comments overtaking the internet, and watch the video that's causing all the backlash.
What You Should Be Eating If You Want to Lose Weight
As we age and our metabolisms slow, it's easy to pack on a few pounds without realizing it. But a new study has found that making consistent changes to your eating habits can lead to big weight-loss results over time.
The Magic Protein Formula For Weight Loss
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed the dietary habits of over 120,000 people for 16 years and found that those who ate foods that had a high glycemic load (which includes refined grains, starches, and sugars) gained more weight than those who ate foods with a low glycemic load (foods such as nuts, dairy, and certain fruits and vegetables). This isn't surprising or new; other research has shown that going lower on the glycemic index (GI) scale will help you lose weight. What is interesting in the new study, however, is that other key habits can mean the difference between pounds on the scale. Check out what else the researchers found about weight gain and loss:
- Those who ate more yogurt, seafood, skinless chicken, and nuts lost the most weight; in fact, the more people ate of these foods, the less weight they gained.
- The researchers found, however, no difference in weight gain in those who ate low-fat vs full-fat dairy.
- Diets with more red and processed meat intake were associated with weight gain, especially when meat was paired with refined grains or starches.
- Eating meat paired with low-GI foods, however (like vegetables), helped reduce weight gain.
- Eating foods like eggs and cheese along with high-GI foods was linked to weight gain, while eating these foods with low-GI foods led to weight loss.
Make These 5 Changes to Boost Your Metabolism All Day
In general, the researchers found that the best diets for weight loss were high in protein-rich foods like fish, nuts, and yogurt, which helped prevent weight gain. Avoiding refined grains, starches, and sugars further helped, as did replacing red meat consumption with other protein-rich foods like eggs and cheese. It may seem like common sense, but taking the time to fill your plate with lean proteins and vegetables and other low-GI foods will help you lose or maintain weight throughout the years. Grandparents will spoil their grandchildren with just about anything, and this teddy bear proves there's literally no present too big for 5-month-old Madeline Jane. When new mom Sabrina Gonzalez saw a photo her father posted on Facebook with a pile of huge teddy bears at Costco, she had no idea that soon a 93-inch teddy bear would arrive at her front door.
Gonzalez's father works at Costco and upon seeing his photo, she commented saying that her baby needed one of these MASSIVE bears. "Next thing I know, I receive a text from him saying he bought her one," she told BuzzFeed News. "I couldn't believe it."
The 8-foot-tall bear looked even bigger once Maddie sat on top in one of the cutest social snaps on Twitter. Everyone is loving the photos of her and her new buddy, as it's been retweeted more than 40,000 times. Maddie can't contain her smile when playing with her big bear and neither can we.
@brina_lioness this is her reaction every time I bring her up to the bear 😂😂😍 http://pic.twitter.com/FuMdHopBPt

While we're in a collective state of mourning, let's revisit their supersexy 2005 action movie. Princess Beatrice Is Still Wearing the Same Pair of Black Heels 1 Year Later
When you find a pair of fantastic, black heels you obviously want to wear them every chance you get. And it appears Princess Beatrice of York just found her dream pair. She was spotted at Lou Lou's for the Love Magazine party in London wearing a cool pair of cutout heels that buckled in the front. This wasn't your average black pump, as the pointy-toe shoe also happened to match the graphic print of her gray dress.
The heels appeared just right in height and it's definitely the sort Princess Beatrice gravitates to again and again. She first wore these back in 2015 with a colorful teal and blue skirt. Seeing her wear them one year later has fully convinced us we need a pair too. Read on to take in Princess Beatrice's look from head-to-toe, then shop some similar shoe options.
7 Natural Highlighting & Contouring Tips Everyone Can Master
"How do I do it and not look totally made up?" "Is there a natural way to do it?" "It sound super intimidating." These are just a few questions I get about contouring and highlighting. It's gotten real intense, amirite? To answer it succinctly: yes, there is a very natural, uber easy way to contour and highlight, and you don't have to be a makeup expert to do it, either.
It's all about the right application, and having the right tools. I like using creams because they're more forgiving: if you mess up, they're easier to remove than powder! And the key is to start off light, then add more if necessary. Another suggestion? If you're worried about contour looking too stark, try using a foundation or concealer that's 2-3 shades darker than your natural skin tone. This way it won't look like it's sitting on top of your skin.
As for highlighting, I think the shade really matters here. If you have cool undertones, go with silver or pink-based shades. Warmer undertones will look great with golden shades.
Check out the video for more tips on how to naturally contour and highlight your skin, and let me know in the comment section your favorite tips!

You Have to See This Patient Golden Retriever Rock a Fishtail Braid
Golden Retrievers are known for their sweet temperament and patience with children, and this recent post on Imgur is a true testament to those characteristics. At first glance, the photo seems pretty normal . . . until you catch a glimpse of the Golden's tail! It's beautifully braided with a fishtail style, showing off the natural highlights in this pretty canine's fur. (We hope the dog was rewarded with a treat after this.) 43 Quotes That Will Have You Running to the Gym

Everyone Compares This Model to Cara Delevingne, but She's Definitely in a League of Her Own
Of course I get tired during Fashion Week. I'm running from venue to venue, writing reviews, pushing my way through crowds of people, and trying to find the time to eat in between. But then again, I really have no right to complain. At least, that's what I told myself when I spotted supermodel Line Brems opening almost every show I attended.
"How did she? What the? . . . " I thought each time I saw her popping up on another runway, since she had literally just dominated the previous runway I was at. I started recognizing her within the first two days of NYFW. Maybe it was because of her gorgeous brows that reminded me of Cara Delevingne's (I want them!) or her slow, graceful walk (I want that too, but I'm far too clumsy).
Anyhow, I felt like I was following Line all over New York, and that's when I knew I had to do a little digging. At 19 years old, the Danish native has been around for a while. Last year, she was profiled as a breakout model by Vogue, but she's been a pro in the industry since she was 15.
While Line is taking a breather and sitting out London Fashion Week, she'll be back in full force for Milan. In the meantime, she took a second to answer some pressing questions we had for her about managing such a busy schedule and being compared to Ms. Delevingne (turns out I'm not the first one to see the resemblance). Read on to learn about Line, then start following her yourself. No matter how hard you try, you can't miss her.
Pippa Middleton's Wedding Planning Attire Proves She's the Ultimate Bridechilla
Pippa Middleton may look to Kate for occasional outfit inspiration, but when it comes to planning her wedding? The star's all about doing things on her own – and in casual attire. The royal's little sis was spotted visiting a floral shop in West London last week, but it wasn't the fact that she shut down the shop (likely for security reasons) that shocked us. It's that Pippa just rode her bike over, solo, while wearing a printed dress and embellished thong sandals, showing off the perfect outfit for the ultimate #bridechilla.
We know Pippa's nuptials will be vastly different from that famous royal wedding, but we wouldn't be surprised if the whole event was kinda low-key. Scroll through to see Pippa's sweet sundress in full - which she can definitely layer once things cool off - then check out the one detail her wedding gown will probably include.
What's This? Oh, Just an Eerily Accurate Performance of The Nightmare Before Christmas
Since its release in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas has undoubtedly attained cult status. It's surprising then that a major reboot or live remake of the Tim Burton movie has yet to transpire, especially considering the ongoing affinity for those. One small stage performance, however, is garnering attention for its eerily spot-on re-creation of the animated film.
The stage production took place at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and a video of lead actor Matthew Patrick Davis performing "Jack's Lament" has since racked up over 2 million views on YouTube. By the looks of the video, Matthew's portrayal of Jack Skellington is so perfect, it's scary, from the voice down to the mannerisms and facial expressions. Watch the video above, and prepare yourself for ensuing heebie-jeebies.
You Don't Have to Be a Downton Abbey Fan to Love These Sassy Lady Violet Lines
Maggie Smith's Lady Violet has some of the best one-liners on Downton Abbey, not just because she's wise, but because the woman is straight-up sassy. Now that Smith has won yet another Emmy for her role, we're becoming contemplative of all the times Countess of Grantham says what's on her mind - regardless of who's within earshot. Take a look at some of her greatest moments, in GIFs!
They Had a Full-On Conversation About Roanoke on American Horror Story's First Season
American Horror Story's new theme seems to have caught everyone off guard, which means we all forgot about one very important scene from the first season. In episode 11, "Birth," Violet (Taissa Farmiga) gets some advice from Billie Dean (Sarah Paulson) about the ghosts living in her house. Billie Dean proceeds to tell the entire story of Roanoke's Lost Colony, but it's a little different than the recorded version. As she tells it, all 117 colony members died inexplicably, but their spirits remained and haunted local Native American tribes. The ghosts senselessly murdered people, until the elder cursed the ghosts, banishing them with a single word: "Croatoan." Even the imagery in the flashbacks is just like the scenes from this season's preview.
We spoke with Jamie Brewer at the Emmys, and even she hinted that we should have seen this coming. "The name 'Roanoke' is brought in [in the premiere], and we all know that we've heard the name 'Roanoke' and 'Croatoan' in the first season, Murder House, that Sarah Pualson brings up."
