7 Ways Latinas Can Make Their Voices Heard in 2017
The unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election may have felt discouraging for many voters, including Latinas who rallied together against Donald Trump's many shocking comments about immigration and women. If you felt a wave of apathy in the aftermath of the election, you are not alone. Now that the proverbial dust has settled, however, it's especially important to stay engaged and involved. Ahead, we've listed seven ways to do that.
1. Participate in your local Latinas Represent chapter.
Latinas Represent is the byproduct of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, and Latino Community Foundation of Colorado. The coalition works towards increasing Latinx representation in American politics. While Latinas Represent does give female leaders the tools they need to run for office or influence public policy, it also offers regular civilians a place to share the issues that affect them. To engage with other Latinas in your area, check out Latinas Represent's many chapters. If you're not represented on the map, then consider starting your own!
2. Contact your elected officials.
In November of 2016, a former congressional staff member went viral with her helpful guide to contacting representatives - and actually making them listen to you. All of her advice is definitely worth a read on Twitter, however, she ultimately said the most effective method is to actually just make the calls. For more information on how to contact them, click here.
3. Share your story with COLOR.
The Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) is a pro-choice, sex-positive movement that fights for reproductive rights and the overall physical and mental well-being of Latinas. If you're willing, you can share your own so-called "reproductive justice" story with COLOR. The organization will only use your first name.
4. Mark your calendar for Nov. 6, 2018.
Despite the unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election, Latinx voters still had a strong influence on many local and state-level races. For example, Mexican-American Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto won the Senate race in Nevada. While these victories from the 2016 election are great, the midterm elections on Nov. 6, 2018 will provide Latinx voters with another opportunity to make their voices heard.
5. Become a sponsor for ELLAS.
Embracing Latina Leadership Alliances, or ELLAS, is a program that helps low-income high school students excel both in and outside of the classroom. For $950, you can sponsor a student and help them attend workshops relevant to their interests and pursuit of higher education. You can also get involved by becoming a volunteer or speaking at a workshop. While ELLA is not an explicitly political organization, investing in the next generation is certainly a way to influence politics in the years to come. They are the future, after all.
6. Attend a local town hall meeting.
Town hall meetings serve as effective (yet slightly less formal) spaces for residents in the area to air their grievances and propose solutions. While these types of meetings don't have a direct effect on the nation at-large, they are still important and can improve your day-to-day life. To attend a meeting, find out who your senators and representatives are and monitor their websites or Twitter accounts for any announcements on upcoming meetings.
7. Run for political office.
If you've ever considered a career in politics, check out She Should Run. Following the presidential election, the organization launched an incubator program that has since encouraged over 4,000 women to run for elected office. She Should Run helps women define their brands, stand up to sexism, and connects them with other women in the program so that they can grow their respective networks.

A mall Santa Claus got an unexpected visit from The Nightmare Before Christmas's mischievous Lock, Shock, and Barrel who, in the movie, are actually ordered to kidnap him. On Dec. 21, three cosplayers skillfully dressed up as the pint-sized henchmen and took one hilarious picture with the mall Santa who doesn't look too pleased, to say the least.

One of them later shared the picture on Twitter where it has since amassed more than 8,000 retweets. In a reference to the movie, the spot-on caption reads, "We kidnapped Mr. Sandy Claws." One person on Twitter noted Santa's sad expression prompting the same cosplayer to reveal a happier picture from their encounter.

18 Healthy Breakfast Ideas That Don't Use Eggs
I think I can safely say we've all experienced a food lull at one time or another. Unfamiliar with a food lull? It's when you're uninspired and unmotivated by your routine meals. Don't get me wrong - having go-to recipes is good and typically helps you stick to a healthy diet, but on occasion it's easy to get into rut.
From personal experience, I usually feel this way toward breakfast. My healthy morning staple has been eggs for the longest time; they're rich in protein and so versatile that it's hard to get bored with them. But alas, I've found myself craving something else in the a.m. besides eggs, and it's challenging to find an alternative as rich in protein and that will keep you as full. This list contains over 20 recipes that will inspire you to switch up the breakfast routine without sacrificing any nutritional value in the process.
You Are Not a Brand
It's almost the end of 2016. And that means it's time to do the thing we always do: reflect on who we are and more importantly, who we want to be in the next year.
A lot of self-help books, leadership gurus, and social media motivational will tell you to focus more on the brand of you. They'll tell you to decide how you want to be perceived in the world and encourage you to spend a lot of time crafting your social media and your resume and your wardrobe and everything about you to project one single, clear message to the world.
Ultimately, they'll tell you that need to be as diligent with your personal brand as a company is with theirs. That's the key to better relationships, better jobs and an overall better life.
Well here's my deep, well researched response to that philosophy:
Girl, bye.
I am tired of thinking of myself, my life and everything that I do as if I'm a product. Because I'm not. And neither are you.
That thinking has led to so many people being stuck in old ways of thinking, relationships and even careers that are out of line with their purpose. It leaves people so afraid about how their next move aligns with some preconceived notion of who they said they were that they never . end up making it. And that is ultimately a recipe for inauthenticity and unhappiness.
Check out my new video that frees you from the pressure to craft your public image into some perfect personal brand and instead, shift some of that time into the "business" of actually being you.

Everything That Has Happened Since Angelina Jolie Filed For Divorce From Brad Pitt
Image Source: Getty / Target Presse Agentur Gmbh
This post has been updated with new information.
Fans were thrown for a loop when news broke on Sept. 20 that Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after 11 years of being together. Although the By the Sea actress has yet to personally speak out on the matter, her attorney, Robert Offer, said her decision to split was "for the health of the family." Brad released a statement of his own not long after, telling People, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids." While it's still unclear what led to their shocking breakup, keep reading to get all caught up on everything that has unfolded since then.
- Angelina files for divorce from Brad. The actress filed papers to end their marriage on Sept. 19, citing irreconcilable differences and requesting sole physical custody of their six children, Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara, and twins Vivienne and Knox. She also asked the judge to grant Brad visitation rights.
- Angelina's attorney, Robert Offer, releases a statement on her behalf. After their divorce news grabbed headlines on Sept. 20, Angelina's attorney said her decision to divorce was made "for the health of the family," but did not answer any further questions.
- Brad releases a statement. The actor spoke out about the split in a statement to People that same day, making it clear that he's putting their kids first. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time," he said.
- More details about their divorce surface. In an exclusive report from Us Weekly, a source close to the pair revealed that "they fought a lot over the years and disagreed about many things. . . . The fighting got worse and they disagreed a lot about parenting." The insider also noted that they would also "fight over their schedules and politics."
- Angelina's manager, Geyer Kosinski, releases another statement on her behalf. Later that Tuesday, Angelina's manager told E! News, "Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family. She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."
- Celebrities react to Brad and Angelina's shocking split. Once the news broke on Sept. 20, it didn't take very long for GIFs and memes to flood the internet. Stars also quickly chimed in, and Chrissy Teigen tweeted, "Brad and Angelina. How am I supposed to go to work today?" Meanwhile, their friend George Clooney found out about the breakup while attending the Leaders' Summit on Refugees at the United Nations. During an interview with CNN, a reporter asked him to comment on their split, to which he shockingly responded, "What happened? . . . I didn't know that. I feel very sorry then. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that." Adele also dedicated her NYC concert to the couple, telling the audience, "I need to address to elephant in the room . . . But it's the end of an era." More recently, Courteney Cox said the divorce is "not about" Jennifer Aniston, and Jen's husband, Justin Theroux, made a similar comment about her inclusion being "nonsense." Melissa Etheridge also chimed in, calling Angelina "nasty" and saying that the allegations of child abuse against Brad were "completely unfounded."
- The New York Post releases a cover featuring a laughing Jennifer Aniston. On Sept. 21, people were furious when The New York Post released its Brad and Angelina split cover, showing a massive photo of Jennifer laughing hysterically. Not long after, Jennifer's pal, Chelsea Handler, spoke out about the breakup, saying, "Brad and Angelina always said they wouldn't get married until everyone could get married and I always said I wouldn't get married until they got divorced, so I'm officially accepting proposals. I'm ready." She then continued, "There are rumors that part of the problem was that Brad was allegedly drinking and smoking too much weed. I wonder why he would need to self-medicate? Maybe because he could have been spending the last 12 years at Lake Como hanging out with George Clooney and Matt Damon instead of being stuck in a house with 85 kids, speaking 15 different languages. Oh yeah, and because he married a f*cking lunatic, that's why."
- Marion Cotillard breaks her silence on Brad and Angelina's split. On Sept. 21, Marion took to Instagram to announce her pregnancy with longtime partner Guillaume Canet and shut down rumors that she had an affair with Brad in a lengthy post. "This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into," she wrote, adding, "Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need . . . And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both of whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment."
- Brad is investigated for child abuse. On Sept. 22, People magazine reported that the actor was under investigation for child abuse by the Los Angeles Police Department and LA County Department of Children and Family Services after someone anonymously reported that he got "verbally abusive" and "physical" with one of his six children. The incident allegedly occurred on Sept. 14 on his and Angelina's private plane, where the rest of the kids, as well as Angelina, were also present. The report also suggests that he had been drinking at the time of the incident. Not long after the news broke, the LAPD denied the report with the statement: "We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing. To my knowledge, [Pitt talking to police] never happened. And right now, that is where our office is. We are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr. Pitt. We understand how rumors get spun up and hopefully we can put a few of them to rest. We have no investigation involving Mr. Pitt." People later clarified that the DCFS is still investigating Brad for child abuse, but the LAPD has not been involved. TMZ has also further reported that the child abuse allegations have been transferred to the FBI.
- Brad gets a lawyer. On Sept. 22, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the actor enlisted help from Lance Spiegel, a family law attorney from Beverly Hills, for his upcoming divorce.
- The FBI releases an official statement. On Sept. 22, the FBI responded to Brad's child abuse investigation in a statement to Us Weekly saying, "In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued."
- Brad Pitt backs out of an event and releases another statement. On Sept. 27, Brad revealed he wouldn't be attending a previously planned screening of Terrence Malick's Voyage of Time. "I'm currently focused on my family situation and don't want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film," he said.
- Brad offers to take a drug test. In an effort to prove he has nothing to hide, Brad agreed to a drug test, according to a report from Us Weekly on Sept. 28. A legal source confirmed that the test would not not be conducted against Brad's will, stating, "The DCFS [Department of Community & Family Services] wouldn't compel someone to provide the urine sample for the drug test; it would be voluntary."
- Angelina hires the real-life Olivia Pope for her divorce. On Sept. 29, People confirmed that the actress hired famous crisis manager Judy Smith, who inspired Kerry Washington's character in Scandal, to help with her divorce. "Judy has been asked to consult with those working with Angelina on divorce negotiations," a source told the magazine. "Judy and her firm have a long history of handling issues that have unfortunately garnered too much attention in the public eye, and she knows how to push towards resolutions that are swift and discreet."
- Brad and Angelina reach a temporary custody agreement. On Sept. 30, it was revealed that the former couple reached a temporary custody agreement, which will be in effect for three weeks before the LA County Department of Children and Family Services will draw up another arrangement or turn the jurisdiction over to the court. The agreement states that Angelina will get full physical custody of their children and Brad will have visitation rights, although hist first visit will be monitored by a therapist, who will determine if he is allowed to then have unsupervised time with the kids. Angelina and Brad also have to attend individual counseling as well as family counseling with the kids, and Brad has to take random drug and alcohol tests.
- Brad won't be prosecuted for alleged plane incident with Angelina and Maddox. On Oct. 8, it was reported that the FBI never opened an investigation against Brad because there was "no case," though TMZ says the FBI is still working on gathering all the facts from the incident.
- Brad sees his kids for the first time since announcing the split. E! News confirmed that Brad was able to visit some of his children on Oct. 8, with a therapist present to monitor his behavior. It's not clear which of the kids were present and which weren't, but a second source also told E! that the therapist would be present for all of Brad's visits through Oct. 20 and that the actor happily volunteered to complete drug and alcohol testing (even though it was not required).
- Maddox Jolie-Pitt refuses to attend the reunion with his dad. While Brad reportedly "wanted to make sure the meeting would be the most productive for the kids," Maddox refused to attend the family reunion and stay with Angelina. According to a source close to Angelina, "He chose not to go and stayed with Angie," adding, "It wasn't full of joy and happiness."
- Angelina and the children are reportedly interviewed by the FBI. In an attempt to get to the bottom of the alleged physical altercation that happened between Brad and Maddox on the plane, the FBI reportedly visited Angelina and the kids at their Malibu, CA, home on Oct. 19, according to TMZ. Law enforcement, who is taking the allegations of child abuse seriously, spent three hours interviewing everyone about the incident. Brad was not present for the interview.
- Brad and Maddox reunite. After a month-long standoff, E! News reports that the two met on Oct. 20 with a therapist present.
- Brad and Angelina are selling Chateau Miraval. According to Us Weekly, Brad and Angelina have put their estate and vineyard in the village of Correns, France up for sale. "The home has been valued and is going on the market any day now," an insider revealed, adding, "It currently says Jolie-Pitt on the Chateau Miraval bottles, and the next season's batch will have a new reprinted label with no names written on it."
- Angelina meets with the FBI. Angelina reportedly met with two FBI agents in her rented home for four hours on Oct. 18, answering questions about the claims made against Brad.
- The investigation into Brad is extended. On Oct. 25, Us Weekly reported that the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services has extended their investigation into Brad Pitt. The investigators are looking into "whether there are additional incidents or a pattern that may suggest a history of abuse that involves more than one of Pitt and Angelina Jolie's six children." The investigation was initially scheduled to conclude on Oct. 20.
- Brad seeks joint custody. NBC News confirmed on Nov. 4 that the actor has filed for joint physical custody of the children. Angelina initially asked for sole custody when they first split, just allowing Brad visitation rights. Although that might have only been a part of the temporary custody agreement that was originally agreed to by a judge, the allegations made against Brad regarding child abuse certainly complicate things.
- Brad and Angelina reach another temporary custody agreement. On Nov. 7, Angelina's rep told ET in a statement that "childcare professionals have encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides over a week ago." The agreement states that "the six children will stay in their mother's custody, and the children will continue therapeutic visits with their father . . . This has been determined by childcare professionals to be in the children's best interest." Her rep continued, "We are not in a position to discuss the details. We hope, now that it is clear that the events which led to the dissolution filing involved minor children and their wellbeing, there will be understanding of the sensitivity of the family situation. We believe that all sides are committed to healing the family and ask for your consideration during this difficult time."
- Brad has been cleared in child abuse investigation. On Nov. 9, law enforcement sources confirmed to Us Weekly that Brad did not abuse his son Maddox during a plane incident back in September. TMZ also reported that the Department of Children and Family Services ruled out any reports of any patterns of misconduct on the actor's part. Later that day, Angelina's rep released a statement to TMZ, saying, "Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family and is relieved that after their eight-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal."
- The FBI closes Brad's child abuse investigation. On Nov. 22, the Allied actor was officially cleared by the FBI of any wrongdoing involving his kids, NBC News reported. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller released a statement, saying, "The FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation. No charges have been filed in this matter."
- Brad's lawyers file a motion asking a judge to seal the childrens' records as it relates to the divorce. On Dec. 22, news of the files were released, alleging that Angelina's attorneys compromised their privacy in a bid to "undercut" Brad during the custody battle. They added that Angelina releasing "the names of [the children's] therapists and other mental health professionals" violated their initial agreement to protect the children's privacy. "[She] appears to be determined to ignore even agreed upon standards relating to the children's best interest," the filing reads.

The Story Behind 1 Girl With Autism Singing "Hallelujah" Is Just as Beautiful as Her Voice
Kaylee Rodgers is seriously talented; her incredible voice is giving chills to strangers across the world as a video of her singing "Hallelujah" is going viral in time for the holidays. However, this 10-year-old girl from Ireland has autism and ADHD, and she was once so shy that she wasn't even comfortable speaking in front of her class - until the encouragement of a dedicated teacher.
Although Kaylee exudes confidence as she stands in front of her classmates during her stunning (and tear-inducing!) rendition of the beloved song, that wasn't always the case. "She always loved singing, but it wasn't until she started at Killard House School that she really came into her own," Kaylee's mom, Tracy Rodgers, told BBC. "[Mr. Scates is] like her safety blanket ― he's amazing."
Killard House's principal, Colin Millar, is also impressed with Kaylee's transformation from a shy student into a breathtaking performer. "For a child who came in P4 and wouldn't really read out in class, to stand and perform in front of an audience is amazing," Colin told ITV. "It takes a lot of effort on Kaylee's part."

The social media love note features a touching message about Joe making Gina "laugh, live fuller, love stronger and grow everyday," during the 144 days they've been in a relationship. Gina is beaming in the selfie of the couple, and it's obvious that she's head over heels.
You might recognize Joe from Gina's show Jane the Virgin, where he plays the hilarious Don Quijote stripper that shows up to Gina's classroom while she's teaching in Chapter Thirty-Nine. It's unclear if the popular show is how the sweet couple met, but we're thrilled to see Gina so happy.
Helen Mirren Gives the Best Advice For 2017 After a "Pile of Sh*t" Year
Helen Mirren stopped by The Graham Norton Show on Wednesday to promote her new movie, Collateral Beauty, with costar Will Smith, and things got pretty real (and pretty funny) very quickly. After the host asked the legendary actress to give the audience and viewers an inspirational Christmas message, Will nonchalantly grabbed Graham's butt. Helen then got situated in front of the Christmas tree, where she held nothing back when it came to calling 2016 what is was: crap. "Hello. At this time of celebration and togetherness, we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by, and I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of sh*t," she said to the camera. "So my advice to you is to drink responsibly and be merry. Have a very happy Christmas, but above all, go see Collateral Beauty, out on Boxing Day." She then ended it with an actual mic drop, saying, "That's Helen. Out." The queen has spoken.

This Toddler's Pitch-Perfect Impersonation of Rocky's Training Montage Will Leave You Floored
There are few moments in cinematic history as iconic as the training montage in the Rocky movies. It seems no one knows this better than little Charlie Magilavy, who has a two-minute scene from the sequel perfectly memorized, down to every jump rope hop and upper-cut swing.
According to his dad, Zack, who posted the video to Facebook, Rocky is the 2-year-old boy's "favorite boxer" and "he takes his workouts very seriously."
Although the parents limit his TV time and don't let him watch the actual fight scenes in the films starring Sylvester Stallone, they can't help but smile at their prize boxer-in-the-making. "It brings a smile to our face every time he asks to 'work out with Rocky,'" Zack wrote.
The adorable video (below) has certainly gone viral – it's got two million views and counting – but Zack has a bigger goal in mind: "Who knows – maybe it will make it back to Sly!"
My Parenting Style: Survivalist
A helicopter mom, I am not. And I'm not a tiger or a dragon either. I don't practice attachment parenting, and I believe free range is better for chickens than children. So what kind of mom am I? I am a survivalist. To me, the definition is simple. While most of the time I try to raise my kids in a nurturing, educationally rich, nutritiously sound environment, sometimes, the s*@# just hits the fan (or, more likely, my most expensive rug). And when temper tantrums, fevers, or general fussiness is the order of the day, all bets are off . . . and the cartoons come on. And I am totally, 100 percent OK with that. So how do you become a survivalist mom? Here's my handy guide to my "whatever gets you through the day" philosophy.
- Feed them healthy foods, at least half of the time. The days you get in all five food groups, give yourself a pat on the back. But the ones that are filled with chicken nuggets, ice cream cones, lollipops, and nary a vegetable? Those will happen, too, and your kids will survive. While scrambled eggs, whole-grain toast, and fresh strawberries would be a great breakfast, the frozen, maple-syrup-topped, pumpkin-spice waffles and SpongeBob-wrapped yogurt tube my daughter ate this morning? That's perfectly acceptable, too.
- Get them to sleep, by whatever means necessary. I coslept with my kids for the first couple months of their lives, then kicked them out of my bed for good, and they've been perfect sleepers ever since. And if you believe that, you're as delusional as I was about the ease of sleep training. These days, my 3-year-old only naps in the car and my 8-month-old prefers to nap with a boob in his mouth. So I spend part of my afternoons driving around aimlessly and another big chunk topless. Nighttime is slightly better for me . . . mostly because my husband is in charge of putting my daughter to bed. Last night, he snuck out after 20 minutes, content that her snoring meant she was totally out. Ten minutes later, she was schooling him on where he was supposed to be sleeping. "What were you thinking, daddy?" was her ultra-accusatory intro. After being thoroughly reamed about his disappointing behavior, my six-foot-three-inch husband apologized and climbed back into her pink-sheeted, stuffed-animal-occupied bed for another hour. When it comes to sleep, we know who's boss.
- As long as their clothing won't make them freeze or sweat to death, we're good. This was a hard one for me because I've always been a bit obsessed with style, and my daughter has a closet full of lovely little dresses, tops, and jackets, all designed to turn her into the Crewcuts model I know she could be. But for the last month, pretty much every day, she's been wearing a cheap-o Target t-shirt, a pair of Gap leggings two sizes too small, and a pink tutu that also doubles as her preferred sleepwear. And honestly, I just can't muster the energy to fight the good fashion fight anymore. She thinks she looks beautiful, and that's all that matters. Well, that and the fact that when it's a choice between the sequin-covered Hello Kitty ballet shoes she wants and the hip and practical Superga sneakers I want, I know I'll never win.
- Let the screen calm the beast. Sometimes I think that I should really feel guilty that my daughter knows every Disney Junior character's name and sometimes recites show plotlines like they happened to her in real life. "Mommy, remember when Princess Sofia turned into a cat today? That was so funny." But, in truth, I'm just glad she prefers Doc McStuffins and Daniel Tiger to Dora and Caillou (I just can't take those voices!), and I'm grateful for TV's ability to give me a few minutes of peace during even our most stressful days. There are times when our screen time is perfectly limited to a quick show in the morning and one before bed, but there are others, when she's sick or just in her most crazy-diva mood, when we've watched Shrek on repeat. On those days, I tell myself that tomorrow will be better. And if not, I have three new Little Einsteins episodes on my DVR.
IHOP and Applebee's Will Soon Be Under 1 Roof, but Only in This 1 City
What a time to be alive, ladies and gentlemen: IHOP and Applebee's are joining anti-hangover forces to open a combined restaurant in late 2017. This heavenly merger will be located in Detroit, but we're crossing our fingers that it spreads like wildfire across the country. Although the exact menu has not been released yet, as the Detroit Free Press reports, we can only hope that diners will be able to order breakfast all day long, just as other standalone IHOP locations allow. If your hungover self can never decide between a heaping stack of pancakes or a juicy burger to cure the previous evening's overindulgences, this combined restaurant is exactly what you've been waiting for.
This exciting news comes after the announcement that McDonald's will begin offering delivery next year - 2017 sure is shaping up to be quite the year for foodies!
People Are Crying Their Hearts Out After Seeing What This Class Bought For Their Teacher
If you need a reason to prove that not everything in 2016 was a hot mess, then you need to watch this heartwarming video of a class giving their teacher a pair of vans. The viral video shows the teacher's genuine touched reaction and it might make you emotional as well.
Earlier this year, psychology teacher Taylor Kerby at Edgewood High School in California, commented to his class that he liked one student's red Vans. The entire class chipped in and bought Kerby his own red pair of Vans, and student, Dyani Heredia, filmed his reaction. Watch the video below.

If it inspires teachers to be better teachers and people to be better people, then I'm excited that it's happening," he said to BuzzFeed. Another student posted a photo of Kerby posing with the shoes.

1 of the Most Romantic Moments in Passengers Turned Out to Be the Most Awkward
Passengers, the new space romance starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, hits theaters this Friday! We've been getting plenty of real-life delights from the costars during their worldwide press tour, including (but not limited to) some words of praise from Chris and a harrowing round of playground insults. At a recent press junket, though, we also got something else: a hilarious behind-the-scenes story! Read as the two recount their hilarious "sexy" blooper below.
Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence's Chemistry Is Out of This World in the Passengers Trailer
POPSUGAR: What was a moment during filming that was supposed to be sexy but turned out really awkward?
Jennifer Lawrence: Probably when we tried to kiss after our first date. We were in our space suits, and we didn't realize that our spacesuits wouldn't allow us to do that. So the director called action and we just like - CLUNK - ran into each other.
Chris Pratt: Like two rams on a mountain top.
JL: My mouth was wide open.
CP: Wide-open concussion mouth. It was like, "Well, we better figure this out."

Kya looks like she couldn't be happier in the photo one of her humans, John, shared on Twitter, and her joy is contagious. This happy pup totally just put us in the mood for the holidays.
Santa Visits Homebound Kids Because Everyone Should Feel the Magic of Christmas
As a child, there's no feeling like grabbing your wish list and hopping onto Santa's lap during the holidays, but for some children, that's not always possible, so the Secret Sleigh Project is changing that. By bringing Santa Claus to the homes of homebound and terminally ill kids, the project is ensuring every child gets to feel the holiday magic.
Sarah Portillo created the Secret Sleigh Project last year when she could not find a Santa to make a house call for her daughter with special needs. The Colorado mom saw a huge void and made it her mission to guarantee every child had the chance to spend time with Santa. Last year, Mr. Claus visited 16 children in Colorado, and this year, the project has tripled across several states with the help of a lot of reindeer.
The incredible project is changing the lives of so many children, and 4-year-old Ryan Chevalier is one of them. When Ryan was born, he was deprived of oxygen, a condition known as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), which also caused "spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy," his mom told ABC News. The Santa who visited Ryan and his family this year said what an incredible experience this was.
"The positive welcoming and togetherness of the family permeated the house from the moment Ryan's father opened the door," he said. "They all cured my nervousness with their smiles. Then, when Ryan's father told me I could hold Ryan, connected to machines, Ryan and I became the focus together. I sensed I was part of something special; it was the family that was letting me know how to be Santa."
Watching This SNL Set Change Is More Stressful Than Last-Minute Holiday Shopping
Ever wonder how Saturday Night Live manages to change its set so swiftly during commercial breaks? NBC released a video showing the breakdown of the cold open set from the Dec. 17 show, and it's kind of hypnotizing. The crew has less than two minutes between the actors declaring, "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" and the moment Casey Affleck walks out on stage for his opening monologue. You can hear production counting down, and it's stressful (but oh so satisfying) to see them complete the set change without a hitch.
Princess Beatrice of York Hangs With Kate Middleton, but Her Style's on Another Level
You might have heard Princess Beatrice's name with ties to Uber executive Dave Clark. The longtime couple made headlines recently with news of their split, but we're here to prove the Royal Highness of York can hold her own. Not only does the princess regularly attend family events alongside her younger sister, Eugenie; her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II; and Kate Middleton, but she also participates in charity work and is developing a career in business.
From a fashion perspective, Beatrice is a natural. Her wardrobe consists of key pieces that turn heads on the red carpet, at fashion shows, and on the street, but it's the way she wears them that counts. While the princess favors Peter Pan collars, avant-garde fascinators, and all sorts of embellishments, every outfit includes an element of surprise. Read on for 73 lessons you can learn just by studying her style.

This year, the video is titled "The Ultimate 2016 Challenge" and recalls many of these hilarious moments, like the running man challenge, for example.
Other highlights include references to the rainbow bagel and, of course, "Damn, Daniel." As in previous years, the video also features a ton of appearances from vloggers, like Lilly Singh, and other celebrities, like James Corden.

10 Turmeric-Infused Beauty Products That Will Give You Better Skin
I always thought of turmeric as a zesty spice to put in chili or quinoa salad. When I learned it is actually remarkably soothing and calming for one's skin, I was shocked. The more research I did, the more I realized turmeric is an ingredient in many of my favorite anti-inflammatory remedies.
How can something so spicy and seasoned also be soothing? According to a study published by the University of Maryland Medical center, turmeric has been used for over 4,000 years for a wide variety of medical treatments. Known by its scientific name, Curcuma longa, turmeric has been proven to help heal some infections, cancers, digestive issues, and, most notably, inflammatory conditions. It's a powerful antioxident, widely used in Ayurvedic medicine and Chinese medicine, and has been gaining popularity now in Western medicine, as well.
It sounds downright miraculous. But you may be wondering, how exactly does Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, accomplish all of this? It's known to have antibacterial properties, for starters, which means it's helpful at keeping blemishes at bay and healing small wounds. It also can reduce certain enzymes in the body that are responsible for inflammation. This makes it a great skin care ingredient to soothe irritation. And since the spice is also an antioxidant, it can fight free radicals and reduce some of the damage they might do.
With very low chances of side effects, incorporating turmeric into your beauty routine seems like a no-brainer. Here are 10 luxurious, all-natural products to help get you started!

3 Ways to Be a Healthier Eater Starting Today
Your diet of eating every comfort food you could stick your fork into finally is catching up with you. Not only are you feeling bloated in your skinny jeans, you're also breaking out, foggy-headed, and tired, too. If eating healthier has been on your mind, make it happen today with these three simple tips.
Veggies Aren't Just For Salads
Make a rule to eat veggies at every meal and snack, not just at lunch and dinner. Throw some kale, broccoli, or beans in your smoothie, snack on celery or carrot sticks smeared with nut butter and chopped dried apricots. For lunch, go for an enormous salad, and for dinner have at least three different kinds of veggies such as roasted brussels sprouts, yellow peppers, and broccoli. Don't forget about dessert - these brownies are made with zucchini and these oatmeal cookies are sweetened with sweet potato.
Try Something New
If you're excited about the food on your plate, you're more likely to eat it. Get adventurous with your eating habits by trying a new food or recipe every day. Grate raw beets on your salad instead of carrots, grab a delicata squash from the farmers market for dinner, or try the farro salad from the cafe. Increasing the variety of natural foods in your diet not only keeps you fired up about eating healthy foods, it also means your body is getting a greater variety of vitamins and other nutrients.
Be Prepared
When you're tired, starving, and in a rush, you're lucky to get food in your mouth, let alone something that's good for you. Make sure to take time before you're famished to prepare your snacks and meals. Prep as much as you can the night before such as cutting up smoothie ingredients for breakfast, packing snacks and lunch for work, and cutting veggies for tomorrow evening's dinner. Get in the habit of planning out what you'll eat for the day, and allow enough time to prepare to avoid grabbing the quickest, usually not the healthiest, foods.

The Only Thing Cuter Than Scott Foley Is Scott Foley Gushing About His Dog
Were you one of those lucky children who got a brand-new pet on Christmas morning one year? Pets are a popular gift during the holiday season, but we recently learned from Swiffer that some people are reluctant to bring home a pet because of the potential messes they'll have to deal with. Last year, the brand launched the "Welcome Home" child's first pet campaign with Scott Foley as the ambassador, and we sat down with him to get the scoop on the campaign and to hear all about his adorable pup at home, Frankie.
Car Ad Featuring "Girl" and "Boy" Toys Just Challenged Gender Stereotypes in the Cutest Way
At the start of Audi Spain's new car ad you immediately see two toy aisles divided by pink and blue lights; on the pink side, dolls pushing strollers and putting on makeup, and on the blue side, cars and dump trucks and cranes. Sitting in a horse and carriage missing its driver, one of the dolls realizes she's not going anywhere fast without taking action - so she swings over to the "boy aisle" and finds her own ride. The Audi toy she chooses immediately opens up the passenger door for her, so the spunky doll shakes her head, walks around to the driver's side and takes off down the aisles, where she sees plenty of other toys pushing boundaries.
Then the lights come up in the toy store and people start flooding in before she can get the car and herself back to their designated places - but that doesn't matter to one little boy. Check out the awesome advertisement and see the way they challenge gender stereotypes above.
The Ancient Practice That Can Ease Your Dog's Nerves
After spending decades researching music and frequencies in order to learn how they affect people, Wholetones creator Michael Tyrrell came to a surprising conclusion: music also has a huge impact on our pets. It can ease separation anxiety, alleviate nervous behavior, and lessen incessant barking, according to Tyrrell. But there's a winning formula for the music in order for it to really work for us and our pets, and the secret lies in the frequency.
"Animals are super sensitive to those frequencies and can pick them up even at a low volume."
In researching music, Tyrrell knew right off the bat that classical music, like that from Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven, had a particularly soothing affect on animals. But in creating music that incorporated similar frequencies, he was able to come up with a whole new concept of music that is like elevated elevator music. Seriously, the music sounds like something you'd hear in an elevator, but it won't bore you; rather, it settles you. The Wholetones collection of music relies on different frequencies to evoke different positive feelings and ease any negativity.
"Three-hundred-ninety-six seems to work like a charm for every dog so far that their owners have played that during stressful holidays," Tyrrell said when I asked him to describe his creation process.
But what even is a frequency? All music is created using a frequency, and 1 hertz means there is one sound wave cycle per second. Tyrrell's perfect music for easing anxious dogs is composed in 396 Hz, or 396 sound wave cycles per second. These things won't mean much to the average person - you just know you like how the music sounds. But what you may not know is that you're feeling the frequency whether you're aware of it or not. This is why Wholetones can be especially beneficial for dogs, because they feel frequencies slightly different from how humans do. It's like how humans can't hear dog whistles. It's because the sound is happening at a frequency that humans can't hear but dogs can.
With all that in mind, I wondered if my very old dog, Winnie, who is nearly deaf, would be able to feel the frequency of Wholetones. Tyrrell insisted that she would.
"Animals are super sensitive to those frequencies and can pick them up even at a low volume," he said. And when I told him that Winnie is an incessant barker, he suggested putting the music on for her to see if she could feel the soothing frequencies. We're still in the testing process, but I can definitely tell that she responds to it, even though she probably can't actually hear it.
Next time your pet is in a stressful situation - namely holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas -- consider putting on Wholetones to see if the soothing frequencies calm him down. Tyrrell has samples of his work on YouTube or you can purchase the collection from his website. One interesting thing to note is that there are several Wholetones clips on YouTube, some of which are in larger playlists of "soothing" music. I put one of those playlists on at my desk one day and felt really productive with my work. This could have been my imagination, yes, but whatever the case, I felt good. However, as soon as the playlist turned to another "soothing" song that wasn't Wholetones, I could immediately tell that something was off - the musicality. That's what I consider to be the best part about the Wholetones music . . . the fact that it is actually music and not just sounds strung together because the frequencies are right. This is music you'll actually feel good about listening to - and so will your pet.
