This Is How All Your Favorite Chefs Use a Slow Cooker
A slow cooker can be used for so much more than chili and queso dip, and these Food Network stars prove it. Prepare to enter a whole new world of breakfast and dinner options that you can cook without looking.
Trisha Yearwood: Macaroni and Cheese
Though you have to cook the macaroni noodles ahead of time, the dish comes together in the slow cooker. Shredded cheese, butter, eggs, and evaporated milk form the creamy sauce.
Get the recipe: slow cooker macaroni and cheese
Tyler Florence: Collard Greens
This classically Southern take on collard greens includes a ham hock, which transforms the liquid in the pot to a savory broth (called "pot liquor") that's good enough to eat like soup.
Get the recipe: slow cooker collard greens
Ree Drummond: Chicken Soup
The Pioneer Woman slow cooks the chicken in the broth (which further seasons it) before taking it out, shredding it, and incorporating it back into the mix. Don't forget the fixings. Ree loads her bowls up with cilantro, cheese, crushed tortilla chips, and more.
Get the recipe: slow cooker Mexican chicken soup
Robin Miller: Barbecued Ribs
You don't have to barbecue ribs at all, Make a homemade barbecue sauce with a handful of ingredients (including canned tomato sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar) and allow the ribs to become tender and sauce-saturated in the slow cooker.
Get the recipe: barbecued ribs
Paula Deen: Shrimp
Shrimp might not be the first protein you'd think to add to the slow cooker. That's because shrimp only need a few minutes to cook. Use the slow cooker to make a sauce and three minutes before serving, fold in the shrimp.
Get the recipe: shrimp Creole
Marcela Valladolid: Braised Brisket (Machaca)
Marinate the brisket overnight to allow all the spices to seep in deep. Slow cook it on low for five hours before shredding into perfect pieces for tacos, burritos, etc.
Get the recipe: machaca
Alton Brown: Oatmeal
When cooking oatmeal in a slow cooker, remember a few tips from Alton: use dried fruit instead of fresh (it rehydrates when the oats cook) and salt the top once it's cooked to accentuate the flavors.

Make Your Life Easier By Learning Alton Brown's Hack For Juicing a Lime
Thanks to Alton Brown, it's easier than ever to juice a lime and store it for later. Alton covers half a lime in plastic wrap, cutting a small slit on one edge. When squeezed, the juice drizzles out neatly from the slit in the plastic wrap (no squirts in your eye or over the counter). Plus, since the lime is covered, you can easily stash it back in the fridge if you don't end up using the whole half. Take a look at the clever technique below.
Want to put lime or lemon juice where you want it instead of all over your counter or in your eye? Cover in plastic wrap and make a small slit on one edge. Squeeze what you want then pop the rest in the fridge.

You Should Be Working Out Topless - Here's Why
I used to be terrified of working out without a shirt or tank top on - that is, in just a sports bra. And I know I'm not alone. Senior SoulCycle instructor and Movement Foundation founder Jenny Gaither created the Dare to Bare event for just that reason: to instill confidence in women so they can proudly flaunt their bodies . . . and work out comfortably.
Jenny noted herself that she never used to be comfortable exposing so much while teaching at SoulCycle and would cover herself up in "ridiculous" ways, including a leather jacket. It was only when she asked a friend (who rode in her class) to wear a sports bra with her that she mustered up the courage to go "topless," and it changed her life for the better.
Since going to Dare to Bare myself, I also now almost exclusively wear a sports bra and leggings to SoulCycle (and other cardio classes), and have chatted with several other women who have described the change in wardrobe as "life changing." Here's why.
You'll Have More Confidence
If you've been avoiding showing any skin, it's typically for one of two reasons: one, you're unhappy with your body and afraid of judgment (from yourself or others), or two, you think it's inappropriate or ostentatious (read: you are happy with your body, and you don't want to look like a show-off). Both cases have something in common: fear of judgment!
In either circumstance, by switching to a sports bra, you'll break yourself out of a damaging mental cycle by stepping out of your comfort zone, and thus learn to love your body even more. This might just be a new take on "exposure therapy."
I chatted with Speedplay studio manager Onique Williams, who - after seeing me work out in a sports bra - told me a similar story of learning to love her body through exposing it. Her running coach told her that she wasn't allowed to run in pants, and she had to put shorts on during their training runs. "I love my backside now," she told me, after admitting she had previously been self-conscious of having a bigger booty. Onique mentioned she'd been envious of the girls she'd seen running in itty-bitty compression shorts, and now she's one of them. "It's so important that women are comfortable with what they have," she said.
You don't have to bare it all, but it's incredibly liberating and empowering when you realize you don't have to conform to a standard or live up to an expectation or look a certain way. You can just work out, love what you've got, and be comfortable.
And on the subject of comfort: ditching the shirt will make you more comfortable physically - especially in a hot, sweaty class! If you've ever gone to a heated class or tend to sweat a lot, shirts and tanks can be massively uncomfortable, especially if you don't have the opportunity to change or shower right away (Think: walking out into the cold, drenched in sweat from hot yoga. Fun!). Get comfortable emotionally so you can get comfortable physically.
You'll Get a Better Workout
After a SoulCycle class a few weeks ago, I had a conversation with a fellow classmate who told me that working out shirtless has completely changed the way she rides and made her a stronger, better athlete in class.
Why? Form! "I'm always watching myself in the mirror," she said - meaning she's holding her abs in tight, the way she should be. Our instructor Natalie Camp confirmed this; she totally encourages a sports-bra-only ride and leads by example herself. She also noted that many students forget to keep their core tight and hold their abs in, which protects the back and improves the overall workout. By taking the top off, you're getting a full frontal view of your midsection, and you'll be more focused on holding it all in, activating those abdominal muscles.
Over time, you'll also be able to notice nuances in your form and how it correlates to a certain feeling, making you even more body-aware and optimizing your workouts.
Added bonus: consistent shirtless workouts mean you'll notice every bit of progress with your body - and you can totally flaunt your hard-earned abs!
You'll Inspire Others
Just like I was inspired by a sea of 100 (or more!) women of all shapes and sizes cycling outside on stationary bikes in their sports bras, you'll inspire someone else, too. How amazing would it be to impact even just one person's life in a positive way like that? Not only will you be loving yourself more and getting a better workout, but you'll be helping someone else live a happier, healthier life, too.

20 Things Kids Do That I Wish Were More Acceptable For Adults
Kids have it good, don't they? Sure, they get hung up on small issues (hello, anger management), but in general, life as a kid is pretty sweet. And after witnessing my children doing what they do best, be kiddos, the phrase in our household is generally "Oh, to be a kid again." Sometimes I wish I could go back so then I might really be able to appreciate all the rad things that are acceptable for kids but not so much for adults.

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris's Family Photos Are a 1-Way Ticket to Happiness
There's no getting around it: Chris Pratt and Anna Faris are freaking adorable. The couple met and fell in love on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007, tied the knot in 2009, and welcomed their son Jack in 2012. In the years they've been together, the two have shared more sweet moments than we care to count. But while we love hearing them gush about each other in interviews and watching them hit the red carpet together, it's their family life with Jack that really makes them the best (hint: the kid really loves trains). Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale Give Us the High School Musical Duet We Always Wanted
It's been over a decade since the first High School Musical movie debuted on the Disney channel, and in the time since, the cast has spiraled off into wildly different directions. But if we learned anything during our time with the crew, it's that once you're a Wildcat, you're always a Wildcat. Coming off the epic 10-year reunion in 2016, the latest mini get-together featured the two biggest starlets from the series, Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens. Tisdale welcomed her former costar to her YouTube channel to sing a sweet cover of "Ex's & Oh's." Considering how the two never had a duet in the HSM movies, it's like we're getting the pairing we never knew we needed . . . until now.

This New Cute Robot For Your Home Looks Like It's From Wall-E
Remember how adorable and easy it was to fall in love with Wall-E? Well, one company just brought their own version of Wall-E to life with the Kuri - and it's as adorable as you can imagine.
Announced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, the Kuri is a robot meant for your home. Imagine a Google Home or Echo Dot but on wheels - that's the Kuri. Weighing in at 14 pounds and only 20 inches tall, the Kuri can roll on its own around your home and do a variety of tasks such as playing music, reading bedtime stories to kids, and plenty more. Kuri also has a 1080p camera, so you can check in on your home and pets whenever you want.
Created by Mayfield Robotics, Kuri truly appears to be a one-of-a-kind robot. Not only can the robot react with sounds and move its head, but it can also move around your house while avoiding any objects or stairs it could fall down. Even better, Kuri will recognize when it's low on battery and return to its dock for charging - all without you needing to say or do a single thing.
The Kuri costs $699 and is available for preorder today, with an expected ship date around the 2017 holiday season. It's pricey, but seems a bit more useful than a Google Home or Echo device, since the Kuri can follow you around. Look ahead for a video of how it works and photos of Kuri.
Fergie Flaunts Her MILF Body on the Beach in Hawaii
Fergie and Josh Duhamel made a superhot pair as they hit the beach in Hawaii last week. Josh showed off his buff shirtless body, taking a dip in the water and tossing around a football with friends, while the "M.I.L.F $" singer looked equally amazing in a purple bikini and colorful top as she held on to a cold drink. The tropical getaway came just before Fergie headed to NYC to perform during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which has been steadily making headlines thanks to an awkward stage moment from Mariah Carey. Scroll through to see Fergie and Josh on the beach, then check out their recent Christmas card and an adorable video of their 3-year-old son Axl dancing to Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling."
The Bachelor: 5 Things to Know About Corinne Olympios
If you've followed The Bachelor for more than one season, then you know there's one thing producers love even more than a fairy-tale ending: a villain. Season 21 is no different, and though we've only seen the premiere, there's already a "bad girl" emerging. Based on the preview of this season, Corinne Olympios is getting the famed "villain edit," despite not actually doing anything super evil yet. Sure, she stole Nick and made out with him at the first cocktail party, but so what? That happens every year! Before we get too far into the season, let's review some of the facts.
1. The Basics
Twenty-four-year-old Corinne hails from Miami, and is a part owner in her family's business. "I own an online business," she said in her profile on ABC's Bachelor site. "It's very important to me, but the cool thing is it's online, so I can run it from anywhere."
2. Fun Facts
Also according to ABC's profile, Corinne has tattoos that she's currently lasering off - I would love to know what they were. She loves Frasier and Chicago, and if she were an animal, she would be a cheetah, because they're "strong and fierce." She wants to find her Prince Charming, but isn't into guys who are all about themselves.
3. She's a Model
Aside from being heir to the family business, Corinne has modeling profiles up on ExploreTalent and Model Mayhem.
4. She's Active on Social Media
Corinne is on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, where her username is Colympios. While she only just joined Twitter in November, she's posted a lot on Instagram. Her account is full of selfies, shots with the other Bachelor contestants, and professional modeling pictures.
5. She's Spoken Out About Her Portrayal
The day after the premiere, Corinne Instagrammed a screenshot about the editing process, and captioned it, "To all the haters. 👆🏼 from 'something to note' please read. And remember you don't know me. Thanks for those who support, thanks for the love!" The picture has since been deleted.
An Open Letter to Anyone Considering a Unique Name For Their Baby
Dear parents considering a unique name for their child:
My name is Alessia, nice to meet you.
Chances are, you just saw my name and either stopped to read it again, you tried to sound it out but were definitely unsure of yourself, or maybe, because of the recent fame of pop star Alessia Cara, you knew exactly how to read and pronounce it (though I'm not too optimistic about that).
My name, which is actually fairly common in Italy, where my family is from, is not common at all in the US. I like having a name that reflects my cultural heritage and reinforces a sense of identity, as many others do, but parents who may be considering a complex name - especially one that's purely to be trendy or unique - should know that doing so could come with consequences they don't even realize.
I'm 26 years old and I can probably count on two hands the number of times a person has gotten the pronunciation of my name right on the first go - a surprising minority, considering it has the word "less" right in it. Whenever someone does get it right, my jaw drops, because these moments are few and very far between - I often consider hugging the person for making me feel so normal. But the other 99 percent of the time, people get my name wrong.
Your name goes hand in hand with your identity, and when it's consistently messed up, it makes you feel less validated.
Over the years, I've made it a habit to introduce myself to people by saying my name slowly - careful to enunciate all four syllables - only to have them repeat something totally incorrect back. After the initial correction, I usually get an "I'm so sorry!" or "That's such a beautiful name!" in response. But that doesn't help the situation much, especially when not long after that they make another unsuccessful attempt at my moniker.
I know what you're thinking . . . what's the big deal, right? The big deal is that your name goes hand in hand with your identity, and when it is consistently messed up, it makes you feel less and less validated as a person.
When I was younger, I'd dread the first day of school, knowing that I'd have to correct my teacher in front of the entire class when they inevitably mispronounced my name off the roster.
When I was a soccer player, I had to listen to my coach call me Alicia for years because eventually my correcting him became pointless.
When I graduated from college, my name was butchered - and thanks to bad acoustics, echoed several times - in front of thousands of people (including my parents who named me).
When interviewing for jobs, I worried about being dismissed in the first few seconds of the interview because I had to correct a potential employer after they read my name incorrectly off my résumé.
All of these incidents gave me social anxiety, made me feel like my feelings didn't matter, and put dampers on some of the most important moments of my life.
If someone mispronounces my name, can't remember it because it's less common than Emily or Nicole, or decides on the spot that instead of making an effort to get it right they'll come up with a nickname, that totally sucks. I don't want you to call me a variation of my first name that I didn't offer or refer to me by my last name - I want you to use my actual name, because that's what I introduce myself as.
Being called by your actual name is the smallest courtesy that a person shouldn't have to ask for.
Being called by your actual name is the smallest courtesy that a person shouldn't have to ask for.
As someone who often writes posts full of unique, differently spelled, and modern baby names, I totally understand the appeal of choosing a name for your child that isn't mainstream. Do I envy those with common names who have to go by Kate S. or "red-headed Sarah" because there are so many people sharing the same moniker? No - it's nice to have a name that isn't so ubiquitous.
One of my favorite bloggers wrote something about choosing her daughter's name a few years ago that really stood out to me:
My favorite girl's name over the past couple of years has been Soleil. I love the sound of it, I love the spelling of it, I love the meaning of it. But after running it by my friends and realizing not everyone immediately knew how to pronounce it, I decided it would be far better suited as a middle name. Luckily, John's favorite name, Briar, complemented Soleil perfectly. The name Briar was unique; it felt modern and classic at the same time. It was unlike anything we had ever heard before, but not so outlandish that it would haunt her forever.
I remember reading this post and thinking, "YES. She gets it! They get it! They're parents of the year!" They chose a name for their little girl that I've never come across in my own personal connections, but there is literally no question in my mind that anyone who reads it will be able to do so without fudging it up.
So please, when you're considering a unique name for your baby, think ahead. Is the name spelled phonetically and easy to read? Can people understand it after hearing you say it once? If you speak it out loud, would most people know how to write it out without asking you how?
These may seem like tiny, inconsequential details, but I cannot stress enough how these incidents build up and drive a person crazy over time. If you still choose to go unique with your baby's name, godspeed. Hopefully your child owns their name better than I have.
But you've been warned.
Signed,
Alessia (which, for the love of god, is pronounced uh-LESS-ee-uh)

Everything We Know So Far About the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette
Late last year, makeup mogul Jeffree Star revealed that 2017 would be a big year for his line of eponymous cosmetics, and that he was working on expanding the range to include foundation, concealer, and a brand-new shadow palette, Androgyny (debuting in March). Based on the quality of his past powder pigment formulas, such as his incredible Skin Frost Highlighters ($29) and the Beauty Killer Shadow Palette ($45), we were anxious to hear more about Androgyny, but knew we couldn't wait too long for more news. Thankfully, Jeffree wasted no time in divulging more details on his social media accounts.
Above is Androgyny, which is wrapped in a lizard leather-textured case (but likely faux, as Jeffree's formulas are all vegan). "10 jaw dropping shades," he declared. "This is my version of a "neutral palette" but with a twist . . ." He even posted a picture of himself wearing a few of the colors on Twitter (which you'll see when you read on). We spy two matte shades - electric orange and a rosy burgundy - and a shimmering gold. Though orange and burgundy are a far cry from "neutral" for most, we're thrilled to see Jeffree continue to change the beauty landscape in 2017. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

If one of your beauty resolutions for 2017 is to stop spending so much money on makeup, this Redditor's experiment will fascinate you.
Using three of her favorite waterproof liquid liners, Reddit user xcxo submitted her products to a series of rigorous longwear tests, including running water and vigorous rubbing. In the above Imgur gallery, you can see that she applied streaks of pigment to the back of her hand. From left to right, she applied Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Dark Brown ($22), Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper ($20), and NYX Cosmetics Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner ($6).
"$6 NYX liner: waterproof, smudgeproof and darker than KVD @ a fraction of the price," she noted. But other Redditors were quick to (kindly) point out that her results might not be quite accurate. "I have used this liner," Reddit user sabrunka remarked, referring to the NYX formula. "Even though it lasts well on the hand, I notice on the eyes that it will slowly vanish away. I don't see flakes or smears, but parts of my wing will just be missing. I have yet to find something better than Stila's black liner!"
Redditor xcxo acknowledged this as well as the "chipped off" section of the NYX sample. "The chunk is missing because after the liners were wet, I saw that the NYX one seemed to be shiny and that water seemed to adhere to the surface (whereas the other liners didn't have this effect). I rubbed at it pretty hard and pieces peeled off," she explained. "When dry, however, all three liners perform the same when scrubbed/rubber vigorously."
Read through the gallery to see the experiment for yourself, but don't be surprised if it inspires you to indulge in a bit of retail therapy!

I Was Still Pregnant at 42 Weeks, and This Is What Happened Next
I pride myself on being on time. As a type-A, anxious over-achiever, I am used to delivering projects ahead of schedule and under budget. I graduated from college in three years instead of four. I like to get places early, I like not feeling rushed, and most of all, I really, really like to plan.
Having a baby is something that everyone thinks can be planned. You think you can plan when you get pregnant, until you learn - often the hard way - that it always happens when it happens. I remember once saying that the only time of year to have a baby is between March and May, and why on earth would anyone do it any other time? I was 20. (Let the record show that my second kid was born in January. BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED.)
I love it when I overhear nonparents saying things now about their plans for having a baby in the future. "We're definitely going to have a baby in 2018." "For my job, Winter is the best time to take paternity leave, so we'll do that." And, my favorite, "We just booked a trip to [insert foreign country or relaxing beach destination] for when our unborn baby will be about 3 months old. We'll all be ready to travel then, right?"
I'm not saying any of this to be mean or to laugh at those sweet, naive innocents. I used to be one of them.
My first baby was due on May 18. We were too anxious to be excited, too organized to get caught up in whimsy. We were busy planning. We took classes on "Choices in Childbirth" and wrote a birth plan. We hired a labor doula and a postpartum doula. We made meal plans and grocery lists and bought heavy flow pads for postpartum bleeding. We froze those organic cotton pads, soaked in organic witch hazel, so that they would be soothing during recovery. We took a class on breastfeeding and infant massage. We made spreadsheets. We were Prepared with a capital P.
I left my job at a tech startup in April so that I would have exactly six weeks to "nest." I took prenatal yoga and did acupuncture. Our Jewish traditions kept us from setting up a nursery, but we sent lists to relatives of what to buy as soon as the baby was born, complete with instructions on what all-natural, unscented detergent to use when washing it all.
It was a lot of planning to hide our fears.
In case you're starting to hate us a little bit reading this, yes, it was a lot. It was a lot of planning to hide our fears and anxieties about the huge change we were about to go through. Even though I knew that intellectually, it wasn't until the evening of May 18 that I finally realized what was going on.
I. Had. No. Control. Over anything. Ever again. And it was terrifying.
That night, when it became clear that even if I went into labor that very moment, I was not going to give birth on the 18 as planned, I collapsed on our couch with a pint of ice cream.
"I'm a failure," I said to my husband, hogging the ice cream.
"How do you figure that?" he asked patiently.
"We promised everyone a baby on May 18. It's May 18. There is no baby."
My loving, patient husband reminded me that only about five percent of women actually give birth on their due date. We learned that in Choices in Childbirth. Or was it Newborn Care?
I knew that. Of course. No one preps and plans as much as I did without taking in all the statistics, but I still thought that my baby would arrive on time because that's how we roll in this family. It didn't make logical sense, but please remember I was officially 10 months pregnant if you do the math.
I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. I somehow had gotten the idea that I was letting down everyone in my life by not producing my baby on time.
I somehow had gotten the idea that I was letting down everyone in my life by not producing my baby on time.
On May 19, even though we'd been pretty quiet about our pregnancy on social media, friends started posing messages on my Facebook wall to the tune of "No baby yet?" and "OMG, so exciting, are you in labor right now?!" even though absolutely nothing was happening in that department. I felt like a fraud.
"Maybe this baby is never coming out," I said to my husband that night. He had kindly brought home a new pint of ice cream for me.
"That's not really an option," he said patiently (did I mention he is really, really patient?!). "One way or another, you'll have this baby soon. Let's try and enjoy this extra time."
Ha! A nice thought. But anyone who has ever been 40 weeks pregnant, or 41, as I soon was, can tell you that the "enjoy" ship has sailed by then. I was beyond uncomfortable. It hurt to sit, it hurt to stand, and lying down was misery. My belly was so huge that lying on my side, as pregnant women are told to, caused insane hip pain. I spent my nights on the couch so my tossing and turning didn't wake my husband, flipping from side to side every hour to relieve the pain. I used a careful assortment of pillows to support my back, my legs, my knees, and my ginormous belly. Not that it helped.
During the days, I walked. I huffed and puffed around Brooklyn, because carrying around 42 weeks worth of baby and pregnancy is hard, and with my short torso, there was very little room for my lungs to inflate. I ignored the guy on my block who liked to ask if I was having triplets. It seemed like most people hadn't ever seen an overdue pregnant woman. No, we are not having triplets, that is just how it looks to lug around a fully-grown child.
Every night I went to sleep thinking, "Surely this is it!" only to wake every morning like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, with the proverbial "I Got You Babe" playing again.
My husband and I went to the park. We took long walks. We got a lot of iced coffees. We polished off many more pints of ice cream. We went to the movies and I missed many a climactic scene to go pee. We schlepped to Manhattan's Upper East Side every other day for hospital-mandated post-due-date non-stress tests to make sure the baby and I were both fine. We were. And then, suddenly, I was 41 weeks and 5 days pregnant. (The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that women be induced before 42 weeks of pregnancy, as complications are far more likely to occur after that date.)
We had been trying all the usual tricks to get labor started since 40 weeks - spicy food, sex, rigorous walks, acupuncture, reflexology - and had reached the end of the line. As my husband had said, this baby had to come out one way or another.
We went to sleep one last time, the night before our scheduled induction. The hardest part of that for me, besides the fear of all the pain and possible complications, was that induction usually takes a day or two, which pointed to our baby being born in the early hours of June 1.
"I want a May baby," I sobbed. "I was promised a May baby!" I'd like to pause again here to point out that I was, for all intents and purposes, 42 weeks pregnant. I hate to throw my hormones under the bus, but I was possibly not in my most rational frame of mind.
The bottom line is that, after all that, my body knew what to do.
Expecting to wake to the strains of "I Got You Babe,", I awoke instead to mild contractions on the morning of May 30 and proceeded to give birth later that day. Not to skip over all those exciting details, but the bottom line is that, after all that, my body knew what to do. The baby and I were both waiting for the right moment. When that right moment came, it all unfolded exactly like they said it would in Choices in Childbirth.
Our daughter weighed in at just under 7 pounds, proving that she probably needed every last moment of those 42 weeks to "cook." I am guessing she was also just really comfortable and didn't feel like coming out any sooner than she absolutely had to. She gets that from me – I know the feeling – and besides, when I was born back in the 1980s, I was a full three weeks late. (Yes, the doctors let my mom go 43 weeks, and yes, she's a hero.)
Moral of the story: sometimes you just can't control everything, or, well, anything, no matter how hard you try, and in the end, it doesn't really matter. I'm not going to pretend that it was smooth-sailing from there because, hello, postpartum anxiety and breastfeeding challenges, but the baby and I were happy and healthy overall and my patient husband continues to be amazing.
We even eventually decided to do that whole baby thing again, and welcomed our son at 41-plus weeks in between January blizzards. This time, no one ever once even mentioned my due date, induction, or what would happen if I went to 42 weeks again. And I was way too busy enjoying the crazy chaos of my unpredictable life to even wonder.

You Already Know Lauren Conrad Will Have the Cutest Maternity Style Ever
We don't expect Lauren Conrad's sweet and feminine style will ever change, even when she's pregnant. All you need to do is take a glance at her past outfits - a mix of maxi dresses, floral prints, and clean silhouettes - to see that Lauren has a tendency to stick to what she loves and what works for her body. She isn't one to embrace crazy red carpet or runway trends; instead, she opts for safe, familiar pieces she can always wear time and time again. It's a reason her own clothing line, Paper Crown, is such a hit with fans. We don't blame this mama-to-be for sticking to what she knows; it's how you craft a signature look in the first place.
Although Lauren has yet to post an outfit shot of her baby bump (when she does, it'll be Pinterest worthy), we're going to skip ahead to predict the outfits she'll likely wear. Based on her previous attire, we hope to see some prints and colors in her closet as well as cozy staples the future mom can curl up in.
Mom's Plea to Keep Sick Kids at Home - Even If You Don't Think They're Contagious
Keep sick kids home
After a holiday dinner with family turned into a potentially life-threatening infection for her little girl, one mom is speaking out to warn all parents.
"Please. If your child has a cold, or a flu, or an upper respiratory infection, please keep them home and take care of them," Imgur user LauraCorreadaSilva shared along with a photo of her toddler in the intensive care unit. Chloe ended up hospitalized after playing with her cousin who was sick yet still came over for Christmas dinner.
According to the upset mom, her brother claimed that his daughter had a lung infection but wasn't contagious. Chloe quickly developed respiratory syncytial virus infection and the 3-year-old already suffers from asthma. Her mom shared that RSV can be very dangerous for kids with preexisting lung conditions and she is now on antibiotics and a breathing machine with her arm bandaged to keep the toddler from pulling out her IV.
Laura wrote that Chloe is fully vaccinated for her age. She explained that she's sharing her family's story to hopefully prevent others from going through what her daughter is experiencing and "as a warning that even though you may think your kid isn't contagious this can be the outcome."
Ruth Negga Reflects on Playing an "Unsung Hero" of the Civil Rights Movement in Loving
Ruth Negga is having a breakout year as an actor, and as she accepted the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Monday night, she seemed humbled by the role that has ushered along that success. Negga is currently starring as Mildred Loving in Loving, which tells the incredible true story of one interracial couple. Mildred and Richard Loving were married in 1958 in Virginia, where interracial marriages were illegal. The pair successfully fought to strike down the racist law - eventually taking their case all the way to the Supreme Court - that made their love a crime.
"I was just so struck by her courageousness, and her honesty, and her beauty. She was such a radiant woman; she radiated goodness, and I just wanted to pay homage to that and people like her, that can be seen as unsung heroes," Negga explained on the red carpet.
The head of the festival, Howard Metzner, told the audience at the gala the film is especially important to tell now, seemingly in reference to the racial tensions and intolerance that has been at the forefront of the news and our cultural conversation. "This timeless love story about an interracial couple reminds us of the unstoppable power of love in the face of hate and prejudice," he said. "A story that could not be more resonant and powerful today."
Negga's Loving costar, Joel Edgerton, presented her with her honor at the show. In her speech, Negga reflected on what she learned from playing Mildred, who became such an important figure in the country's march toward civil rights: "You can make changes and you don't have to be the loudest voice in the room."

Oprah Reveals the 1 Thing She Gave Up to Lose 42 Pounds on Weight Watchers
For years Oprah Winfrey struggled with her weight and yo-yo dieting, but she recently flaunted her 42-pound weight loss and and now, we're finding out exactly how she did it. In the January/February issue of Weight Watchers Magazine, Oprah talks about how positive thinking and balance helped her find pure happiness, and how giving up numerical goals ironically helped her lose weight.
"At 200 lbs., I was OK. I have never, ever, ever been at that point. And then at 190 lbs., I was OK. If I don't lose another pound right now, I'm still OK," she said. "The fullness of life, the fullness of being, the self-acceptance - I'd never done that before. I'd always beaten myself up because I was tied to a number."
Since teaming up with Weight Watchers and buying 10 percent of the company during the Summer of 2015, Oprah has never been shy about her goals and the determination it was going to take to get there. She explains that her perspective on living a healthy life mentally and physically had a major part in shedding those pounds.
"It was frustrating to promise myself 'I'm going to do it today, I'm going to do it today,' and then not stick to my plan," Oprah said. "So I shifted. Now, I don't have a goal in mind. I get to a certain weight and I'm OK, and say, 'This is where I want to be. Hang in there. I'll get there when I get there.' And my body will tell me when I am exactly where I need to be."
As a firm believer in the program, Oprah said that the first thing she had to do was find the "intention" of her weight loss. "Intention is the most powerful principle that rules my world. It's the principle by which I rule my company and every action in my life. I do nothing without first thinking about why I'm doing it.
"When the weight started to come off, I needed to get clear on my intention. I could lose weight to fit a dress size, or attend an event, or to make other people like me. But I couldn't keep it off for those reasons. I always put the weight back on," she said. "This time I changed the intention to, 'I want to be the healthiest I can be - physically, emotionally, spiritually.' So the process and purpose of losing shifted for me. It was easier, because my intention was clearer."
For Oprah, it's not about the number on the scale, "It's in the way you see yourself fitting into your life. Embracing your life. Honoring your life. Having reverence and appreciation for your life."
That mindset is exactly what we need to tackle our New Year's Resolutions.

Melissa d'Arabian Slams Haters of Mariah Carey's NYE Performance
Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve performance during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve left people talking after it didn't go according to plan. Plenty of viewers are hating on Mariah's lip-syncing performance, but Melissa d'Arabian took a moment to speak out against all the negativity. The former Food Network Star winner took to Facebook on Jan. 1 to share her opinion on why we shouldn't be so quick to judge Mariah slip - or other people's mistakes, for that matter. "Her sound went out and it just plain - pardon my language - sucked," Melissa admitted of Mariah's surprising performance. But she continued, "We dare blame those who are brave enough to be out there on a stage giving us their all while we sit on our cushie bottoms wrapped in fleece blankets holding up judging cards like cranky Olympic judges suffering from jet lag . . . Why are we OK with being so mean?"
While Melissa does understand where the naysayers are coming from, she's encouraging her fans to think with more compassion, applaud people for their efforts, and be slower to judge when things are less than perfect. "They say to be the change you want to see. So this is the year when I decide to side with the do-ers and celebrate the blood and dust on their brow. Thank you, Mariah, for calling on me to raise my game." Read Melissa's full Facebook post below.

People Are Losing Their Damn Minds Over This Girl's Striped T-Shirt
When Twitter user mmmadelinee posted a mirror selfie on the social media platform, she probably didn't expect that it would spur a full-blown uproar. In the photo, she wears a beanie, glasses, and a crop top that's making the internet totally freak out. The shirt looks gray from far away . . . until you take a closer look. When you click on the photo, the top appears to have a strange "trippy" pattern, but zooming in reveals that it's simply striped. Commence freaking out and subsequent Twitter stardom.
Parents Are Reporting That Their Kids' Hatchimals Use Swear Words
The latest news in Hatchimals is that they enjoy swearing just as much as many moms do. Parents are taking to social media with tweets, statuses, and videos to share that their child's coveted hot toy of the year learned a new trick in the form of repetitive curse words. If you listen carefully to the Hatchimal in the video above, you'll quickly notice that its seemingly innocent snoring noises actually sound a lot like it's saying "F*ck me" over and over and over.
Although this newest revelation regarding the interactive toy is hilarious, it's just another issue parents are having with the toy - one of which involved the eggs not even hatching - since its release late in 2016. Nick and Sarah Galego shared a video of their 6-year-old's Hatchimal showing off its foul mouth, however, the couple told CTV Vancouver that their son loves his toy and is young enough that he doesn't seem to acknowledge the phrase, so they'll be keeping it around.
After seeing the Galego family's video, Spin Master made a statement saying that the toys are not loaded with curses in their vocabulary. "Hatchimals speak their own language made up of random sounds. We can assure you that the Hatchimal is not saying anything inappropriate. The one in the video appears to be sleeping."
