Health Advice I Wish I Could Give to My 20-Year-Old Self
If I met my 20-year-old self, I wouldn't recognize me. I weighed 40 pounds more, and I'm sure at least 10 were divided between my face and my boobs. I was tired all the time, ate Swedish Fish by the bagful, was constantly bloated and gassy, had trouble sleeping, and was so miserable. I knew I could be feeling and looking better, but I just didn't know what to do. Time has been good to me, and once I found yoga, a healthier diet, running, and a healthier attitude, at 39 years old, if time travel was a realistic option, here's the advice I'd share with my younger self.
Dear Me,
I know you're not happy. You wish things were different. Please don't wait 10 years to make a change. You'll probably roll your eyes at me quoting Oprah, but it's time to "live your best life," and here's how:
- Love yourself. Every action and every thought, make it tender and supportive. That fragile, little voice inside is listening intently, being shaped by your every judgment - feel good about what she hears.
- Quit being critical of your body. You spend way too much time nitpicking what you hate and comparing yourself to others - spend that time celebrating the awesomeness that is you. What you look like isn't as important as you think because the size of your jeans is no measure for the size of your heart.
- Trust your instincts. You know in your heart what's good for you (like not going to bed at 3 a.m., or baking on the beach with no sunscreen). Don't be afraid to follow your gut, even if it goes against what other people are doing.
- Stop caring about what other people think. Let hurtful, crushing comments roll off you like water on a duck's back. You don't need anyone's approval to know your value. Choose to spend time with people who lift you up. Negativity is contagious. So is positivity.
- Do things that make you feel beautiful. When you feel strong, confident, and full of life, it shows.
- Don't let insecurities prevent you from trying new things or doing what makes you happy. Looking good in a bathing suit is not a prerequisite for being good at surfing. Whatever you've been itching to try - signing up for that half-marathon, taking snowboard lessons, or traveling an hour away to try flying yoga - if you don't do it now, it may never happen
- Stop eating crap, and so much of it. Living on your own is exciting with no one telling you how to eat. You can have doughnuts for breakfast and ice cream for dinner! But if you don't start eating a balanced diet now, it's going to take years to lose the weight you've piled on.
- Move every single day, and make it a priority. Some days run five miles, some days take a walk. Life looks different from a bike seat or standing at the top of a mountain, and you'll experience things and meet people you never would have met before. If you start now, it'll become a habit. Make sure it's fun so you stick with it.
- Use fitness as therapy. Endorphins are powerful things, and they're a healthy way to boost your mood when you're feeling down or upset - way healthier than polishing off an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. And bonus points for working out in nature - it amplifies the benefits.
- Take care of yourself every single day. With every bite you eat and every minute you spend, ask yourself, "Is this nourishing my body and soul?"
- Change isn't as scary as you think. It may seem brutally hard at first, but it gets easier, I swear, and it's totally worth it.
- Seek help. No one said you have to go at it alone. A strong support system will get you further than you can go on your own.
- Arm yourself with information. Don't just go by assumptions about how you think you need to lose weight - you waste a lot of time making mistakes and even more effort being unhappy about it. Ask experts so you can start seeing progress and stop feeling frustrated.
- Never stop feeling like you're 20. Don't become too preoccupied with becoming an "adult." Keep that creative and fun energy going strong, because your mental health is equally as important as your physical health.
- Appreciate your changing body and all that it's able to do. If you think you're unhappy with the way your body looks now, just wait until things start descending and expanding as you become older and throughout your two pregnancies (yes, you're a mom, congrats!). Your body will never be perfect, so celebrate its changes and stop wasting time and energy on wishing for what can't be. Love your body for what it brings to your life.
PS: I love you. Even though it may not feel like that right now - it took me a long time to realize that - I love you. I appreciate you for you and all the things you've allowed me to experience and learn. I feel like at almost 40, I'm just getting started with taking life by the horns, so thanks for the beautiful head start.
This Math Problem Will Make You Question Everything You Ever Knew About Algebra
Math isn't everyone's best skill - and even those who are good at it are questioning everything after trying this algebra problem.
The question originally went viral in Japan, after a study discovered that only 60 percent of 20-somethings could actually solve it. Are you already feeling frustrated and hopeless at trying to know what the answer is? Watch the video below, posted by YouTube user MindYourDecisions, a popular math puzzle channel. In it, Presh Talwalkar, the mastermind behind this question, will guide you to the right answer.
As you can see, not even a calculator can help you, as it will read the problem wrong and arrive at the answer of 9. To solve it correctly in a calculator, you need to write it out like this: 9-3/(1/3) + 1, which will lead you to 1 as the correct answer. The problem tests your knowledge of PEMDAS, the order of operations formula, which says you must get to the answer by following these steps in this order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In this question, that means dividing 3 by the 1/3 first, which is the same as 3x3. That will then lead you to 9-9+1. From there, 9-9=0 + 1 = 1. Ta-da!
If you arrived at 3, 7, or 9 as your answer, you're not alone. Most people have forgotten how to use PEMDAS or interpret the fraction of 1/3 the wrong way. Still not feeling much of a challenge? Try this other math question that not even parents could solve.

Everything You Need to Know About Eylure's Vlogger Series Lash Launch
What if we told you that there is one accessory that could enhance your natural beauty, make you appear more glamorous instantly, and only take a few seconds to incorporate into your normal routine? We're pretty sure that after hearing that the answer is "false lashes," you might be a bit wary. Yes, despite their transformative powers and affordability, falsies are misunderstood and underappreciated. Many reserve the fluttery strips for major occasions like weddings, only to allow their application to be ruined by anxiety and excess glue.
However, aside from Rockettes and celebrity makeup artists, there is a sector of the population that has mastered falsies (and wants you to love them as much as they do): beauty influencers. Women known for their #GetReadyWithMe videos and #FaceoftheDay selfies know that popping on a lash is the easiest way to pump up their finished look. These same ladies are sharing that secret with their dedicated fan bases, which is why British brand Eylure has tapped four beloved influencers for its Vlogger Series lash collaboration.
Nicole Guerriero, Sarai Jones, Ann Le, and Nikki Phillippi - self-professed lash-lovers - each designed two pairs of strips for a total of eight lush sets. They're divided by theme: one is meant to be more of a natural everyday lash, while the other is a more glam style. The women aim to encourage everyone to experience how wearable false lashes can be in real life.
The Walgreens-exclusive products launched earlier this year and are selling out quickly (after all, these ladies have nearly four million followers between them) but are absolutely worth hunting down. The fabulous, reusable strips come at a drugstore price point ($8-$9!) and are incredibly versatile, as even the "daytime" lashes can be worn after-hours as a sexy addition to your Valentine's Day date look.
To inspire your next eye makeup masterpiece, we spoke with all four influencers to get the lash lowdown on how to wear them, application tips, and more. Read on!
These Are the 15 Movies From the '90s That You Need to Watch With Your Kids
Growing up in the '90s was the best of both worlds: I had epic '80s movies to play over and over again, and I got to live through 10 years of amazing film releases, many of which have stuck with me my whole life (and are still on constant rotation).
I spent half of 1997 begging my mom to buy me the Heart of the Ocean necklace, the better part of the late '90s trying to re-create "The Blob" with my camp friends (to no avail and with only minor injuries), and most of the decade singing "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "My Girl," and "We Are the Champions" at the top of my lungs. It was an exciting time to be alive, and though your children may never know what it was like to wait for a VHS tape to rewind (torture), these films need to be on a must-watch list so they can get a proper education of '90s culture.

Giada De Laurentiis Shares the 1 Recipe You Need to Make This Super Bowl
Giada De Laurentiis is gearing up for the Super Bowl by getting serious about the competition - the snack competition, that is. She shared the recipe for this festive football pizza on her site, Giadzy, along with an explanation of how she plans to spend game day with her crew.
Giada admits she's rooting for the Atlanta Falcons because "I always love an underdog," but "I'm just as excited for the excitement that's sure to be Lady Gaga's halftime show and those extravagant ads, things even my non-football-loving friends get excited for - and the excuse to eat some great snacks, of course!"
Along with the football-shaped pizza, Giada says, "We'll get together in my game room, where I'm planning on setting out an array of sandwiches, including my Italian-style muffuletta, a hearty sandwich packed with all my favorite Italian meats, provolone, and a savory olive and red pepper spread. But I'm going to switch it up a little, and instead of serving it on the traditional round sesame loaf, I'll make this sandwich as a sub, so it's easier to cut into bite-sized slices for everyone to enjoy."
No matter who you're rooting for - if anyone - a football-shaped pizza is guaranteed to be celebrated by all. And don't worry - if you're thinking there's not nearly enough cheese on this pizza, rest assured that it's underneath the pepperoni, too. Get the recipe for Giada's pizza below, and add it to your list of must-have Super Bowl appetizers.

A Look at Charming Prince Philip Through the Years
Before Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth, she married the handsome foreign Prince Philip from Greece, who also happens to be her third cousin. According to Sally Bedell Smith's biography titled Elizabeth the Queen, Philip came from a tumultuous background despite his lineage. Born in 1921 on the island of Corfu, he moved to Paris at age 1 with his parents, Alice Marie and Prince Andrew of Greece. By age 8, he'd headed to England for boarding school. With generous good looks and confidence, Philip made his way to England with the help of royal relatives. He would later be invited to have lunch with the royal family, and that's when Elizabeth reportedly fell for him. During World War II, Philip served in the Mediterranean and Pacific, and he and Elizabeth wrote each other letters. By 1946, he was back in London and making regular visits to Buckingham Palace. During that Summer, he spent a month at the royal family's Balmoral Estate, where he proposed. Their wedding was held at Westminster Abbey on Nov. 20, 1947.
During their 68 years of marriage, most of them during Elizabeth's reign as the monarch, Prince Philip has been as constant as the queen herself, although he's a bit more controversial, making a few insensitive gaffes. But when he's not giving the press an unfortunate quote to run, he's either by the queen's side, working as a patron for several charities, or, until recently, enjoying carriage racing. Let's look back at pictures of Prince Philip over the years, then see the facts about the British royal family every die-hard fan should know.

The True Stories Behind the 3 Remarkable Women in Hidden Figures
Hidden Figures is an instant must watch. Based on the nonfiction bestseller of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly, the film tells the untold true story of three black female mathematicians who were instrumental in making NASA's first manned orbit around the Earth a success. While helping America propel forward in the space race, they broke down national barriers for both female scientists, as well as people of color. Out of the three outstanding women portrayed, Katherine G. Johnson is the only one still living today. She stated in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that the movie was "well done" and "pretty accurate." However, the film is a biographical drama, not a documentary. Take a look to learn more about these incredible women, as well as what was made up for dramatic effect.
Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Shakes During Delivery
I felt prepared to give birth. I'd read my books, I'd taken my classes, and my friends shared a few too many gory details prior to the big day - but they didn't share everything.
Heading into my C-section, I was confident and full of anticipation. I knew what the procedure entailed and how long it would take. I knew the schedule for the baby afterward and had a plan so my husband would follow our baby as soon as he left the operating room. But once my son arrived, they came too - the shakes. Nobody warned me about the shakes. And these weren't just a little shiver felt throughout my body, but full-on, uncontrollable shaking that probably made me look like I was convulsing to the untrained eye. I honestly don't remember much about them - I was probably so pumped up on endorphins that they've been erased from my memory - but I do recall having trouble getting a full sentence out of my mouth because my teeth were chattering so hard. The whole "episode" probably lasted the total of an hour, and, like I said, it isn't anything I would have remembered, except that it happened again when my second son was born.
This time around, with a scheduled C-section on the books, I braced myself for some postpartum shaking prior to entering the operating room. My body, however, seemed to have something else in mind.
After receiving a spinal block and lying down on the table, I began to feel cold - like polar-vortex cold. I asked the operating-room staff to raise the temperature in the room, at which point my husband told me that the room was already very warm - he was sweating. Before I could say anything else, the shakes set in, and this time they were uncontrollable! Whether it was nerves (sometimes it's actually worse to know what to expect) or a side effect of the painkillers, I'll never know. But, thanks to a thoughtful anesthesiologist, my upper body was covered with an air-warming blanket that looked like it came out of Big Hero 6, which provided me some comfort and heat throughout the surgery. Before long, my second son was in my arms and the shakes were the furthest thing from my mind.
But consider this your warning. The shakes are real, and they're normal. They are part of your body's recovery (or in my case preparation) and nothing to worry about - unless they're accompanied by a fever. Because heck, you know you wanted your newborn to have an interesting first feeding session.
Did you have the shakes during your delivery?

A Timeline of Pink and Carey Hart's Rollercoaster Romance

Pink and Carey Hart first began dating in 2001 after meeting at the Summer X Games, and since then, they've taken their love all over the globe, vacationing in Mexico, Australia, and Paris. While their relationship hasn't been without its fair share of drama (they've broken up twice before), Pink and Carey have worked through their issues, welcomed two kids together, and most recently, celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary. If anything, their time apart has only brought them closer.

This breakup is not about cheating, anger, or fighting. I know it sounds like cliché bullsh*t, but we are best friends, and we will continue to be."
- 2009: Pink and Carey reconciled, and the BMX biker told People at the time, "We're rebuilding. Sometimes you have to take a couple of steps backwards to move forward."

The Incredible Thing 1 Firefighter Did After Unexpectedly Delivering This Baby Girl
When Marc Hadden responded to an emergency call one November night in 2011, the firefighter had no idea that he was about to deliver a baby girl who would change his life.
Marc arrived at the scene to find a woman in labor with not enough time to make it to the hospital. He helped the woman give birth to a healthy baby girl and when the mom immediately put the child up for adoption, Marc and his wife, Beth, stepped in.
The couple named the newborn Grace in honor of the fate that brought her into their family and brought her home with signed adoption papers within 48 hours. "Ever since we had the boys, we knew that we wanted more children, but I was preterm with them so we knew that it wasn't possible to have any more babies," Beth told WMBF. "We had it in our minds and in our hearts for years to adopt and we just left it in God's hands. We said if its meant to be, it will be."
Mom's Note to Stranger at McDonald's Who Got Involved When Her Toddler Wouldn't "Go Potty"
A stranger in a McDonald's bathroom overheard a typical fight between a mom and her toddler: the Kansas parent was trying to reason with her 3-year-old to pee before they left to get back in the car.
The stranger listened in as Tiffany Miller tried to explain to her daughter that it was a long drive home and she had to use the potty before they left. She also heard the child explain that she was afraid the toilet was going to flush while she was sitting on it. Despite her mother promising to block the sensor and prevent it from flushing, the little girl wouldn't comply, and promised to make it through the drive home without having an accident.
In a heartfelt thank you to this stranger posted on her Facebook, Tiffany explained what happened when the woman decided to step in. "You told her you would give her a bracelet if she would go potty for Mommy. She perked up and agreed," Tiffany wrote. "I turned to quickly put her on the potty (before she changed her mind). You told her the bracelet would be waiting outside the stall for her. I turned to say thank you, but you were already gone."
When the child finished using the bathroom she found a bracelet and a candy bar waiting outside her stall. "Her eyes lit up as she put the bracelet on after using the bathroom," Tiffany wrote. "We made it home to Wichita safely and she is currently sleeping soundly next to me . . . still wearing the bracelet."
Although the woman was gone before Tiffany could catch her name, she's grateful for this stranger's act of kindness: "I wish I could have thanked you in person, but maybe you will see this. If not, hopefully it inspires someone else to be kind like you were."

Alicia Keys: "I Feel Really Good About Being Able to Look Myself In the Face"
Some have called Alicia Keys's decision to go makeup-free as a crusade, while others have declared it a revolution. But what we love most about the star's choice is that she didn't make it for anyone but herself. This March, Alicia is on the cover of Glamour, and in an interview with writer Kimberly Drew, the musician disclosed that she's learned a great deal on her bare-faced journey.
"I've come to terms that life is going to be a constant peeling back of layers, a constant unlearning of what we've been taught or believe to be true," she disclosed. "I think that I've come to terms with the fact that that's just going to happen for the whole duration of my life. I feel really good about being able to look myself in the face and say, 'Oh, who are you now?' And that might change."
And just like her flawless complexion, Alicia didn't try to make a statement by wearing her iconic braids. "That was just how I loved wearing my hair," she admitted. "I recognize now that how you look is your statement, because it's a claiming of yourself. You're saying, 'Look, world. This is me. Love me or hate me, I really don't care.' I guess that is the revolution."
The mission of being self-confident and achieving self-acceptance is not an easy one. Alicia bravely revealed that she is not "100 percent comfortable" with herself and works hard to listen to her inner voice. She thinks that this is a common plight for many women (and speaking from personal experience, we agree).
"We listen so much to everybody - more than ever, because we have a kabillion voices whose opinion we can access - and we care so much if everybody agrees with us," she said. "To bust through all of the noise is very challenging."

The Special Reason You'll Want to Buy Kat Von D's 6 Newest Lipstick Shades
All the way back in April 2016, Kat Von D teased six tubes of her beloved Studded Kiss lipsticks. But instead of being wrapped in that classic glossy black packaging, each lipstick's case was meant to match the hue inside. "These new shades of Studded Kiss lipsticks are color-matched to their components and will be launching as a limited-edition set," Kat had explained. However, while they were supposed to launch at the end of last year, the lipsticks never hit shelves.
Fans hadn't forgotten about these prettily packaged products, though. "So annoyed," said Instagram user @kizzylola1. "They said these were out around Christmas and it was delayed for months." But now we can all rest easy knowing that the set - officially named Rock Candy - will be coming to Sephora.com on April 4.
According to the brand's Instagram feed, those six petite tubes all hold brand-new electric shades. While we don't know too much about them, it's clear what their colors will be: gray, lavender, royal purple, neon pink, bright pastel pink, and coral-pink. According to a past 'gram of Kat's the gray shade is named Zero. Stay tuned for more updates on the collection as they become available!

Beanies and Beach Waves Is the Winning Winter Combo You Need to Try
Whether you're headed to a chic ski destination like Jackson Hole or Aspen or cozying up with your friends in the Poconos or Vermont, there's one hairstyle even the laziest girls can pull off: beanies and beach waves. We love this style at POPSUGAR, and you can often see us wearing it to office with the addition of a hot pink or bold purple lip (because that's even more fun!).
"Beach waves are one of the perfect hairstyles to wear with beanies because of the ultimate lived-in hair trend that is happening in hairstyles right now," said celebrity stylist Gregory Patterson. "Beach waves have the ability to look better and better as each day passes. And what better style to throw a hat on, than one that looks better as it evolves."
To make sure you're rocking the look correctly, you need to get the beach waves tousled just right, place the hat in the correct spot, and deal with static. Patterson has hacks to solve all of these problems, so keep reading!
Hair Prep:
"Use dry shampoo at your roots to absorb any oil or residue," he said. "This also helps to maintain volume as best as possible when removing your beanie indoors." Try a formula that is available in different shades to match your hair color, such as BTZ Rock On Dry Shampoo or Klorane Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk.
"Salt Sprays and Texture sprays are another key product to maintain your texture and keep those waves as locked in and lived in as possible," Patterson added. Great ones to try include BTZ Beach Head Surf Shake Sea Salt Texturizing Spray, Ion Curl Texturizing Spray, or DryBar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray.
Dealing With Flyaways:
"One of the things you may be fighting will be static electricity," he noted. "I have found two little tricks that work well."
First, he recommends keeping hair moisturized - a step that begins when conditioning strands in the shower. "Look for hydrating conditioners, leave-ins, oils, and serums," Patterson advised. "This really helps minimize static electricity."
Basically, the healthier your hair is, the smoother the cuticles are and the less likely it will break and look frizzy.
Next, pay attention to the hot tools you use to create the beach waves. "When using dryers, curling irons, or flat irons to create your waves, make sure you're using hot tools that have ceramic, magnesium, or ionic technology to heat the hair," he explained. "[This does it] in a much gentler way and pushes the moisture into the hair rather than boiling it off."
But if you still need some help, try putting static guard or dryer sheets the inside of your beanie. "I find that this really helps to minimize static especially when using blended or mixed-material beanies that may have polyester or acrylic fibers in them," he said. "I've discovered the more 'natural the fiber; - i.e. merino, cashmere, cotton - the less the static."
Choosing a Beanie:
This leads us to the next point: the actual beanie matters! "When shopping for a great beanie, look for 100 percent natural fibers," Patterson suggested. "Again, cotton, merino, and cashmere are all great choices. There are some synthetic blends that may have some silk fibers in them, and those are also great choices. Think: the silkier and smoother, the better." (Editor's note: kind of like your hair!)
But there is one hat that's a beach waves and beanie faux pas. "I would avoid any beanie that has fleece or microfiber layered inside," he advised. "This is a guaranteed static maker. I find it to be the worst choice when it comes to fibers, especially when wearing along a hairline that may be compromised or prone to breakage."
Patterson also has a great trick for making your beanie even better for your hair. "I would recommend investing in a yard of silk and taking it to your local laundry cleaner or tailor," he said. "Ask them to cut a two-inch band, and stitch it into your beanie where you will be wearing your it along your hairline. This will be the best thing you can do to minimize any breakage along your hairline and really helps to avoid static."
Beanie Placement:
Where the beanie goes on your head is also important for the final look. In general, you can either place the beanie close to your hairline or back on your crown, depending on your comfort and face shape.
"I'd also make sure that the fiber of your hair is always taken into consideration so that the integrity and all of your hair growth is protected," he explained. "As with anything that may rub against your hairlines and cause breakage, make sure to use silk scarves underneath if you don't stitch in your own when prone to breakage."
Finally, Patterson warns to make sure that your beanie isn't too fitted. "You want a snug fit but one that isn't too tight compressing the volume out and rubbing too much," he said.
Try this look for your next ski trip or on a day when you "can't even."
Hacksaw Ridge: The Incredible True Story Behind the Oscar Nominee
With six Academy Award nominations (including one for director Mel Gibson and another for lead actor, Andrew Garfield), Hacksaw Ridge has emerged as one of the most lauded films of 2016. Both critics and audiences have praised the gritty war drama, which has racked up numerous international honors and over $150 million at the box office since its November release.
Those who haven't seen the World War II drama may not know that the onscreen story of Garfield's character is based closely on real-life soldier, Private First Class Desmond Doss. Even those who have lined up to see the film may not know just how much of the cinematic story was rooted in true events. As producer Bill Mechanic told People, he and Gibson "were very accurate with Desmond and what happened to him." That's not to say that the filmmakers were obsessive about every detail of Doss's life. "If you're a slave to the complete facts, then you're not making a movie that is compelling."
Here are the true elements that inspired Hacksaw Ridge, and the pieces that were fictionalized for movie magic.
Doss Was a Pacifist
According to Terry Benedict, who made a Doss documentary called The Conscientious Objector, the real-life subject of Gibson's film "just didn't fit into the Army's model of what a good soldier would be." Part of that perception had to do with Doss's outward appearance and demeanor; he's been described as a skinny kid from Virginia who spoke in a quiet Southern drawl. But the bigger issue was Doss's pacifist beliefs. As a Seventh-day Adventist, he refused to touch a weapon or work on the Sabbath. His fellow soldiers interpreted the lack of participation as laziness and considered him "their weakest link in the chain," according to Benedict. They harassed him verbally, and eventually physically, questioning why he had joined the Army at all.
He Had a History of Violence in His Family
In the film, a young Doss is fascinated by a framed poster of the Ten Commandments hanging in his home, and in particular, an illustration of the Sixth Commandment, which depicts Cain murdering his brother Abel. This detail is true to Doss's real childhood in Lynchburg, VA, where he grew up as the middle child of William, a carpenter and World War I veteran, and Bertha, a homemaker. Doss's father, who Hugo Weaving played in the film, suffered from alcoholism and depression related to PTSD while his mother (Rachel Griffiths) sought solace in religion and regularly attended church with her children. In the film, Doss is seen breaking up a fight between his parents and wrestling a gun away from his father. While the scene is based on actual events that inspired Doss's vow to never touch a gun again, the real fight involved his father and uncle.
His Real Love Story Was Different
On screen, Garfield's Doss falls in love with a nurse named Dorothy (Teresa Palmer) after taking an injured man to the hospital. In reality, Doss did indeed find love with Dorothy Schutte, but the two met at a Lynchburg church, not a hospital. The real-life couple wed in 1942 and had one son: Desmond, Jr. The couple remained married until her death in 1991 and Doss later married again to a woman named Frances Duman. They remained married until his death in 2006.
Doss Did Save Dozens of Lives
Thanks to a 1940 law, the Army couldn't turn away conscientious objectors like Doss; they were obligated to allow him to serve in a noncombatant position. Doss drew on his prior experience in the Philippines (which isn't depicted in the film) and deployed with the 307th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division in the summer of 1944 to serve as a medic. While it's undeniable that the real-life Doss ran through enemy gunfire in order to rescue fellow soldiers, the number of lives he saved is up for debate. Doss himself estimated the total count to be around 50, but the military insists the tally was double that amount. The filmmakers settled on a compromise, setting the number at 75.
He Made History
While some of the personal and chronological details may have been re-interpreted for the movie, one historic achievement that's preserved in the film is Doss's ultimate history-making recognition. President Harry S. Truman presented Doss with the Medal of Honor on Oct. 12, 1945, making him the first conscientious objector to ever receive the award.
Game of Thrones' Kit Harington Says His First Time Was Nothing Like Jon Snow's
Kit Harington is getting personal. In a recent interview with Elle, the Game of Thrones star opened up about losing his virginity. Unlike his character, Jon Snow, Kit says his first time "was a little less left field than in a cave," adding, "It was a typical sort of teenage thing at a party. I was probably too young." When asked if he was 13 years old when it happened, he responded, "No, but you're not far off. I think the girl and I just kind of wanted to. You either hold on and do it right, or you're young and decide to get the monkey off your back." Of course, Kit isn't the first star to kiss and tell. Katy Perry, Lena Dunham, and George Clooney have all gotten pretty candid about losing their virginity.
This Weird Thigh Makeup Trend Will Make You LOL
Last year saw the absolute peak of body makeup in the form of butt contouring, leg sculpting, and even neck shadowing. Just when we thought women were letting their extremities breathe, we came across the thigh makeup trend on Instagram.
This technique is just what it sounds like: people are applying full faces of makeup to their upper legs. Some opt for only a dramatic eye look (a smoky thigh, if you will), while others paint on lips and noses and glue on false lash strips.
As weird as it may be, the trend is a fun one for aspiring makeup artists to try. Instead of using a paper face chart, design your next fancy face on your thigh! It's an excellent canvas, as it's typically smooth and relatively flat. See some of the best glam gams from Instagram when you read on.
15 GIFs to Celebrate the Beautiful Human Being That Is Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake is one of the most famous musicians in the world, but if you ask a lot of his fans, they all feel like they know him on a more personal level that goes beyond the stage. The "Can't Stop the Feeling" singer, who has been married to Jessica Biel since 2012 and is dad to son Silas, has remained humble while growing up in the spotlight. After getting his start on The Mickey Mouse Club, Justin went on to be a lead singer in *NSYNC, date Britney Spears, and have a massively successful solo career, which he still has to this day. In addition to his down-to-earth personality, Justin is funny and kind, and cares deeply for his fans. Keep reading to see all of the times you could relate to JT.
Benefit Cosmetics's Scientific New Brow Translator Is Like a Fortune Teller For Your Face
Whether you're into the bold Instagram brow or take a softer approach to your arches, you've likely come to realize the important role brows play on your face. Every little waggle, lift, or furrow is an indication of expression and mood.
The team at Benefit Cosmetics (which has been helping makeup-lovers enhance their arches for years) knows this well. In order to pay homage to the fabulous feature - and show how fun they can be - the brand has partnered with an expert who has studied the role of brows in facial recognition for a cool new game. Dr. Javid Sadr, professor of neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge in Canada, worked with Benefit to develop the Benefit Brow Translator, which defines how brow shapes and movements decode our feelings.
A new custom website uses facial recognition software to "read" your arches, evaluating them for emotions from happy or seductive to "meh" or angry. Simply take a selfie and watch as the translator deciphers your brows, pairing their mood with a fun little thought bubble. (My "happy" brows said, "When you take off all your makeup and bae still says you're cute . . .") Once you have your results, you can share them on social media with the hashtag #benefitbrows.
Not only is it a totally adorable concept, but the site is also a fantastic way to procrastinate during that afternoon slump. Read on to see an example of how the Brow Translator works, then head to the official site to see what your arches are trying to tell you.

Alicia Keys Offers Words of Wisdom For Young Girls - but Grown Women Can Benefit, Too
Alicia Keys was photographed for the March cover of Glamour at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. She was joined by a group of young women from The Lower Eastside Girls Club, beneficiaries of the magazine's philanthropic initiative The Girl Project - and in addition to opening up about her year-long journey going without makeup, the 15-time Grammy winner and mom of three also shared words of wisdom and empowerment that young girls and grown women alike can benefit from. When asked what she would tell her younger self, Alicia responded with a powerful, sincere message:
"There is this fallacy about how women are catty, that we're all in competition with each other. I'd say: As opposed to getting swept up in jealousy, use that pang to give you an indication of what you are looking for. Actually, there is this awesome performer Lilly Singh who always does this thing: 'Shout out another girl and tell her what you love about her.' Even doing that is such a good practice, I don't know if we tell women great news about themselves enough. You'd be surprised how often a young woman doesn't hear positive things about herself - not in her home, not at school. It's hard to create a beautiful image for yourself when you've never seen it or heard it."
Hear, hear!
