8 Disturbing Bombshells From Leah Remini's Scientology Documentary Series

Image Source: Getty / Noam Galai

When you think of Scientology, a few people probably come to mind: Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Leah Remini. While Cruise and Travolta are partly known for their unwavering devotion to the "church," Remini publicly split from Scientology in 2013. After having doubts about things the church was doing and questioning the church's leader, David Miscavige (which is apparently a big no-no), about the unknown whereabouts of his wife, the actress had had enough.

In addition to speaking out about her experiences with interviews and a book, Remini decided to dive even further into uncovering the church's corrupt reality with her A&E documentary series, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. On the show, she travels around the country with Mike Rinder, Scientology's former senior executive and one of Miscavige's right-hand men, to talk to former church members about the horrors they allegedly endured over the years (the church denies all claims made in the show). See the biggest bombshells below, which include forced abortion and physical abuse.

  1. The church's leader, David Miscavige, reportedly beats his staff. Several former church members have spoken out on the show about the physical abuse they endured at the hands of Miscavige (he's 5'1", by the way). All of the situations they described include the church leader's attitude changing at the drop of a hat and him punching, shoving, and choking them in front of other Scientology staff members. Whenever someone even looked like they were about to fight back, a group of Miscavige's men would swoop in and immediately remove that person from the building. One former church member, Jeff Hawkins, recalled that Miscavige looked at him after physically assaulting him and said, "Do you know why I did that? To remind you who's boss."
  1. Women in the Sea Org are reportedly forced to have abortions if they get pregnant. In the show's fifth episode, Remini sits down with Marc Headley, a former event coordinator and video producer for Scientology, and his wife, Claire, a former Sea Org member. While working in the Sea Org, a now-land-based organization of the church's most dedicated members that control management operations, and living at the church's international headquarters in Hemet, CA, Claire became pregnant with their first child. But since Claire alleges that Scientology thinks women in the Sea Org who get pregnant actively want to leave, she was forced to get an abortion. "If a woman got pregnant, she would instantly be scheduled to go and get an abortion," she said. "If she refused in any manner, she would be segregated, not allowed to speak with her husband, put under security watch, put on heavy manual labor, and interrogated for her crimes." Marc and Claire managed to narrowly escape the church (he says he was run off the road by church members in an SUV; she says she snuck out of Walmart and hopped on a bus), but that will never take away their pain. "I can go, 'Well, now I have three beautiful children who are my life,'" she continued. "But it doesn't make me feel better about not being strong enough to tell them to go f*ck themselves."

  1. Despite escaping the church, some people are reportedly still tracked down and brought back. Claire and Marc also went into detail about the heavy security that Sea Org members are reportedly under when they live at the base in Hemet. In addition to security cameras being everywhere, their outgoing mail is always read before being sent, they are on strict meal schedules, and the fence that surrounds the property has large spikes on both sides, which prevents anyone from entering or leaving. Claire revealed that when her friend tried to escape, she fell in a ditch outside the property and was brought right back in by church members and put on heavy labor duty. She also said she knew one member who fled all the way to South Africa, where he was tracked down and brought back.
  2. Private investigators reportedly hired by Scientology followed Remini during the filming of the show. In the fifth episode of the show, Remini and Rinder are driving when they notice a suspicious-looking car close by. After signaling to the car several times that he can pass, he refuses. When they pull up next to him and ask him who he is, he says he works for TMZ, but suspiciously doesn't have a camera and quickly drives away. When they then pull into their hotel, two men are sitting in the lobby with their phones pointed at Remini's car. The hotel manager asks if they are guests, and they both quickly get up to leave. Rinder confronts them, they act like they don't know anything, and Remini later reveals that one of the men is a private investigator (oh, and the TMZ guy was driving the PI's wife's car).
  1. Church members will spend thousands of dollars trying to reach the highest level of spirituality in Scientology. Scientology was founded by a man named L. Ron Hubbard, who believed that you need to clear yourself of your "reactive mind" in order to advance up "the Bridge of Total Freedom." People do this through auditing sessions, where a Scientology auditor asks the person a series of questions while they hold two metal cans attached to a machine. The machine tells the auditor if the person is telling the truth, and in order to continue to grow spiritually, church members have to pay for expensive courses in order to improve. It also should be noted that Hubbard holds the Guinness World Record for most published works by one author (and they're mostly science fiction) . . .
  2. If you leave the church, you will most likely lose your entire family. If a member of the church speaks out against Scientology or decides to leave, they will be labeled a "suppressive person" (watch Tom Cruise talk about it at the 4:29 mark). If the rest of that person's family is still in the church, they will be pressured to disconnect from that person, which means cutting off all communication and essentially never seeing them again.
  3. David Miscavige reportedly told private investigators to let his father die. David's father, Ron, was the one who got his son involved in Scientology when he was a young boy. But after years in the church and being heavily monitored while living at the base in Hemet, Ron and his wife, Becky, decided to plan their escape. In episode four of the show, Ron told Remini that he knew he needed to get out after he walked by his son one day and decided to say hello. "Dave looked at me and I knew that I had done the wrong thing," he said. "By calling him Dave," Remini clarified, to which he replied, "Yes." After Ron and Becky finally escaped, his son hired private investigators to follow him, one of whom was brought in for questioning by police and revealed everything. According to Ron, the investigator told police that when they saw Ron have what appeared to be a heart attack (he was simply holding his cell phone in place in his chest pocket), they called David to see if they should intervene, but David replied, "If it's my father's time to die, let him die."
  4. Scientologists believe they have the cure for mental illness. In the show's season finale, Leah sat down with Brandon Reisdorf, a former church member who suffers from bipolar disorder. At the time of their interview, Brandon was in psychiatric care but his family agreed to let him tell his story. While Brandon said he's doing much better now that he's in the care of actual doctors, he detailed his horrific time in the church. After one of his mental breakdowns, the church decided to give him an "introspection rundown," or what they think is the cure for mental illness. It involves locking the person in a room until their "episode" passes, which they think means their body is rid of the illness for good. Scientologists are also well-known for hating psychology and thinking you can treat mental illness with vitamins and intense auditing sessions (as seen in this infamous Tom Cruise interview with Matt Lauer).

Is an Egg White Omelet Healthier Than One Made From Whole Eggs?

Egg white omelets and sandwiches have made their way onto many breakfast menus, but is choosing egg whites over whole eggs really the best choice nutritionally? If you're looking to cut calories, fat, and cholesterol from your diet, egg whites might be a better option, but check out what you might be missing by skipping out on the yolks.

Two large eggs Three egg whites One large egg plus two egg whites
Calories 142 48 103
Fat 10 g 0 g 5 g
Sat. Fat 4 g 0 g 2 g
Cholesterol 422 mg 0 mg 211 mg
Sodium 140 mg 165 mg 180 mg
Protein 12 g 12 g 14 g
Riboflavin (B2) 0.4 mg 0.3 mg 0.4 mg
Vitamin B12 1.2 mcg 0 mcg 0.6 mcg
Vitamin D 35 IU 0 IU 17.5 IU
Iron 1.8 mg 0 mg 0.9 mg

While choosing straight-up egg whites does lower the omelet's calorie, fat, and cholesterol content, it also makes the meal void of vitamins B2, B12, D, and iron. If you're concerned about getting enough of those nutrients, a good option would be to eat an omelet made of one whole egg and two egg whites. It's still low in calories, fat, and cholesterol, but you'll get some vitamins from the egg yolk.

SNL Throws Major Shade at Destiny's Child in This Skit About Beyoncé's Babies

Even Beyoncé wasn't safe from Saturday Night Live's jokes this week. After the singer announced that she's pregnant with twins, the show hilariously poked fun at what is probably going on inside her womb. Not only does Sasheer Zamata do a spot-on Beyoncé impression, but Tracy Morgan also makes a special appearance as one of her babies alongside Kenan Thompson. Of course, the best part (or maybe worst) has to be when the actors throw shade at Destiny's Child, saying this isn't the first time their mom has carried two other people. Yikes! Catch all the other funny moments above.

Vanessa Hudgens's Swimsuit Has a Sexy Detail You Shouldn't Miss

Vanessa Hudgens is on vacation in Mexico, posing in a beige one-piece with a straw hat and a drink in hand. At first glance, the suit blends perfectly with the sandy beach, which is why we almost missed the sexy low-cut side detail.

This subtle yet sultry swimsuit style was popular over the Summer, spotted on celebrities like Shay Mitchell and Bella Hadid. Judging from Vanessa's snap, the style won't fade out for 2017. In fact, we're obsessed with this particular one-piece and even found similar options to shop below.

Fifty Shades Darker: There's WAY More to Jack Hyde Than Meets the Eye

BDSM, near-death experiences, and . . . a difficult boss? When Jack Hyde first is introduced in Fifty Shades Darker, it seems like he may just be a typical thorn in Ana's side: inappropriate, demanding, and mercurial, but kind of anticlimactic in terms of an antagonist (especially compared to a gun-wielding ex-submissive). But it's Fifty Shades, so obviously, nothing is quite that simple.

Jack - played by Eric Johnson - quickly goes from "difficult" to dangerous, and he inexplicably hates Christian Grey with a ferocity that seems to go beyond regular old jealousy. It's easy to write him off as just crazy (mainly, because he, well, is), but there's way more to him than even Christian and Ana realize - and his story is just getting started in the second installment of the trilogy. If you want to know the dirt on Jack Hyde, read on for major spoilers regarding his sordid past, and what becomes of his character when the third and final book in the series comes to an end.

Who is Jack Hyde?

Jack Hyde starts out as Anastasia Steele's boss at Seattle Independent Publishing. She originally interviews for an internship at SIP, but Hyde pushes for her to be hired on as his personal assistant. Jack's behavior toward Ana quickly becomes inappropriate. In Fifty Shades Darker, he blackmails Ana for sex after discovering incriminating email conversations to and from Christian. After Jack threatens her and attempts to physically assault her, Christian has him fired from SIP and essentially ruins his entire career. It's a pretty good reason to hate someone and seek revenge, but that's not why Jack is out to destroy the Greys.

Why is he after Christian and his family?

After Christian's mother overdosed when he was young, he was placed in the same foster home in Detroit as Jack Hyde. The two were only in the same care for a couple of months - a time that Christian doesn't recollect. Although Jack goes on to be successful (he gets a scholarship to Princeton, for instance), he harbors a deep resentment toward the Greys for adopting Christian instead of him. He has obsessively sought revenge, collecting information on the family members and watching their movements. His rage is further fueled when Christian sabotages his job. Sound crazy yet? Oh, there's more.

What happens to him?

Jack Hyde is out for Christian's blood, literally. In Fifty Shades Darker, he is responsible for the crash of Charlie Tango, Christian's helicopter, but he really steps up his vengeance game in Fifty Shades Freed. He breaks into Christian's home in order to kidnap Ana, but is thwarted by security and sent to jail. Elena Lincoln - aka Mrs. Robinson - has an ex-husband who also hates Christian, and bails Jack out in order to get back at Christian for his affair with Elena. When Jack gets out, he kidnaps Mia, Christian's sister, and holds her for a $5 million ransom that he forces Ana to collect for him (Christian is a billionaire . . . he didn't think bigger here?). Ana saves the days, shoots Jack in the leg, Jack gets arrested (again), and Mia is returned to the family, safe and sound. After investigating Jack's past, Christian later discovers that Jack had a habit of filming himself having sex with his former assistants (the ones who all quit without notice), most likely to blackmail them with the evidence. All said and done, it's safe to assume Jack Hyde is locked up for a very long time.

Yep, Fifty Shades is just your average, formulaic love story.

This Simple Technique Gives C-Section Babies All the Benefits of a Vaginal Delivery

C-sections happen: one-third of all births take place on the operating table, so many that it's the most common surgical procedure in US hospitals. Despite their prevalence, however, moms and doctors alike know that babies born via cesarean don't get as many initial health benefits as those infants born vaginally.

Well, that's about to change.

Up until now, only babies who pass through the birth canal are exposed to helpful bacteria in the form of protective microbes that help educate developing immune systems. But researchers involved in a small pilot study at the University of California San Diego have discovered a surprisingly simple fix: if they transfer a swab from the mother's vagina to the cesarean-delivered newborn, it can actually alter the baby's microbial makeup in a way that more closely resembles that of a vaginally delivered baby.

In the study, which was published in Feb. 2016 by Nature Medicine, researchers collected samples from 18 infants and their mothers, including seven born vaginally and 11 delivered by scheduled C-section. Of the C-section-delivered babies, four were exposed to their mothers' vaginal fluids at birth after sterile gauze was incubated in the mothers' vaginas for one hour before the operation. Within two minutes of their birth, the babies delivered by C-section were swabbed with the gauze starting with the mouth, then the face and the rest of the body. Then, the babies were evaluated six times throughout their first month of life.

The researchers' positive findings could mean that those babies delivered by C-section - who have an "increased subsequent risk of obesity, asthma, allergies, atopic disease and other immune deficiencies" - might now see fewer of those problems.

"This study now starts to prove that the effect exists, telling us that some of those vaginal microbes probably do stick around when transferred to a baby born by C-section, at least for the first month of life," Dr. Rob Knight said, noting that long-term effects of this swab technique have yet to be determined. "We need substantially more children and a longer follow-up period to connect the procedure to health effects. This study points the way to how we would do that, and provides the proof-of-concept that microbiome modification early in life is possible."

For expectant moms, that's certainly promising news.

The pair has been making us swoon with their romance for more than 11 years now, and the beginning of their love story is just as magical as the memories they've shared in the years since they met. After watching her on The Cosby Show while growing up, the Justice League actor admits his crush on her stayed with him until they were finally introduced in 2005. "I was definitely . . . that was the first time when I was like, 'I want that one. I want her. I'm going to get her,'" he told Katie Couric of watching the show in 2014. "I didn't tell her until after we had our two children. But I told her . . . 'I kinda stalked ya. I was going to find ya.'"

Jason also opened up about the exact moment they crossed paths in 2005, telling The YBF, "We met through mutual friends. But when I first met her, she didn't know I was a stalker, but I was. I was with one of my best friends and when I turned around, and they were going to introduce us, literally, like, fireworks. She said, 'Hi, I'm Lisa,' and I said, 'Hi, I'm Jason,' and I just turn around to my buddy like . . . [freaking out]. British Prime Minster Theresa May Has a Style Mantra For All Power Women

New British Prime Minister Theresa May is not reserved when it comes to style. As the second woman to hold the post in parliament, her bold wardrobe helps her distinguish pride and confidence, and she doesn't shy away from statement heels or designer pieces that make her happy. "I like clothes and I like shoes. One of the challenges for women in the workplace is to be ourselves, and I say you can be clever and like clothes. You can have a career and like clothes," she said when she spoke at the Women in the World Summit last year.

Even so, her followers caused a stir when Theresa stepped out for the Pride of Britain Awards in a fit-and-flare that stopped above the knee. "Put your knees away," one Twitter user commented. But we'd argue that Theresa's satin piece is both sophisticated and fun. Like so many other power women - some of whom hold office - Theresa's outfits are modest, yet full of personality.

Her famous leopard pumps, which she wore when she was sworn in as leader, didn't feel too playful when paired with a tailored colorblock coat. Instead, they're a daring step in the right direction and a call to all ladies in the spotlight to wear what they like. Read on to find 39 memorable pieces Theresa May flaunted while on the job, all of which confirm that a loud print, cut, or color can be business appropriate too.

The Special Reason You'll Want to Buy Kat Von D's 6 Newest Lipstick Shades

All the way back in April 2016, Kat Von D teased six tubes of her beloved Studded Kiss lipsticks. But instead of being wrapped in that classic glossy black packaging, each lipstick's case was meant to match the hue inside. "These new shades of Studded Kiss lipsticks are color-matched to their components and will be launching as a limited-edition set," Kat had explained. However, while they were supposed to launch at the end of last year, the lipsticks never hit shelves.

Fans hadn't forgotten about these prettily packaged products, though. "So annoyed," said Instagram user @kizzylola1. "They said these were out around Christmas and it was delayed for months." But now we can all rest easy knowing that the set - officially named Rock Candy - will be coming to Sephora.com on April 4.

According to the brand's Instagram feed, those six petite tubes all hold brand-new electric shades. Kat Von D's vice president of product development, Nancy McGuire, revealed swatches of the hues - and their names - on Instagram. She called Zero a "personal fav" that Kat dreamed up: "a non-traditional gray with a pinky lilac undertone that looks awesome on everyone." The remaining shades are Ozzy (lavender), Roxy (royal purple), Crush (neon pink), Babe (bright pastel pink), and Ziggy (coral-pink). Stay tuned for more updates on the collection as they become available!

This Isn't an Engagement Ring From Prince Harry on Meghan Markle, but It's Pretty Close

If you want to know Meghan Markle's true feelings about boyfriend Prince Harry, just look at her jewelry. The actress was spotted in London picking out flowers, and as she held the bouquets, we got a glimpse of the rings on her finger. A stylish gal to begin with, Meghan expertly stacked a bunch of gold bands together, but one piece - a ring with the letter "H" - stood out the most. We're assuming it's a reference to her royal beau as she already has a necklace bearing the same initial. While the ring isn't an actual engagement piece from Prince Harry, to us, it comes pretty darn close.

It's symbolic of their relationship. The actress kept the rest of her outfit casual to let the ring stand out, wearing a green Barbour jacket, jeans, a blue beanie, and her wellies. Scroll on to see the powerful ring for yourself, then shop similar versions ahead.

Dad's Candid Photo With His Wife and Baby Encourages Men to Be the "Dream Husband"

In a sweet photo posted to Imgur, one dad just destroyed our emotions in an absolutely precious double whammy. Not only does he encourage other dads everywhere to be a "dream husband" for their wives, but this snap, which shows his newborn son snuggled up with him and his sleeping wife, captures an unforgettable moment for the family. "After winning a battle with testicular cancer last year we finally got our first born son," he started his caption. He goes on to say, "Real men take care of their baby while mommy takes as many naps as she needs."

This photo is just another example of dads taking more photos of moms and their babies. In a recent Instagram post, the mom behind The Young Mummy put out an open call to all dads to take photos any time there's a sweet candid moment between mom and child. "So whenever you see one of us with our babies, a beautiful candid moment, take the bloody god d*mn photo," she wrote in the caption.

This Imgur user is on the same page and made sure to capture this touching moment with his family, and we're sure his wife will treasure it for years to come.

Why Saying "Just One Kid" to a Mom With an Only Child Is a Hideous Crime

Whether it's innocent or not, it's not uncommon to hear these words uttered to me as a mom of an only child:

"You have just one kid?"

Yes, just one kid.

There's something damning and almost insulting about this statement. "Just," to me, signifies that one child is not enough. It suggests that everyone should indeed be having multiple children or at the very least two. "Just" screams, "Oh, you only have one kid. That's nothing. I have a lot of kids. Now THAT'S a lot of work!"

I'm here to tell the world that "just one" is enough. It's enough kids. It's enough work. It's a completely legitimate choice. I chose to have one kid, and when I considered having another, it didn't work out for me due to health reasons and a divorce. At this point, I cherish and love having an only child. Why I chose to have one child, whether it was for a health issue or simply because I only wanted one child, is no one's business. No woman needs to account for why she has no kids, 10 kids, or two kids. Our reproductive plans are our own to carve out. We can only hope that if people have children, whether two or 10, they care for them as active mothers and fathers.

And what really gets me fired up is the insinuation that "just one child" is not work. Granted, I am certain that running a household of multiple children is pretty much akin to running free in a psych ward, but "one child" is still work. Besides, it's not my problem as a mom of an only child that someone else chose to add on work by having more kids and I - or any other mom of an only child - didn't, no matter our reason for having an only child. I never put a gun to anyone's head and asked her to have many kids. So when you tell me "just one kid" as if I am having personal spa days every day of my life, I would like to remind you that your comment is insulting, not supportive of mothers, and assumptive in so many ways. One woman could have two healthy children, and another could have one who is not healthy. Which do you think is more work? Another mother could be a single parent of one, and a mom of three could have a comfortable lifestyle and active dad and partner. Who is to say what is easier or harder?

And furthermore, why are we as mothers so insistent on claiming martyr's status? Ladies, instead of pointing out who has it the worst - single parents vs. married, working mothers vs. stay-at-home mothers, etc. - let's instead acknowledge that in each home and family, every mom has her own unique battles; it doesn't matter how many children she has, whether she works or not, and if she's married, divorced and coparenting, or parenting alone 24/7. By fighting this invisible battle and mommy war of "Who has it the worst," we are creating an unsupportive and weak atmosphere for ourselves and for our daughters. So put down your metaphorical crosses and try to see each unique situation as it is.

When you see a mother of one, don't assume that it's easy. To be honest? Sometimes it's more work to entertain one child because we can't simply say, "Go play with your brother," but for me thankfully, my daughter is independent. Quite frankly, the idea of having more than one child makes me a little nutty. I have loads of respect for mothers holding down the fort with more than one child, especially those who raise three or more. Kudos to you ladies! But for this mama, one kid is enough work, enough love, enough joy, enough pain, and enough in my heart to keep me over-the-moon happy that I get to call myself a mom.

Last but not least, let's not forget the pain you could be inflicting on a mother when you say those insensitive words: "Just one kid." Many moms I know with only children had one child because another was not in the cards for health, financial, or fertility reasons. When you open your mouth and spill out, "Oh, just one kid," you are ignorant of the potential heartache lying underneath your comment. Maybe that mom didn't want it to be "just one kid," but that's what she got and she is grateful for that child.

Ladies, if you're rocking one, two, or five kids, let's all be here for each other as women and mothers virtually, in person, and in spirit. If only we banded together as a unit - mothers of all races, classes, and identities - we would be a most powerful group.

This Is Gisele Bündchen's Favorite Outfit, and It's Easy to See Why

Turmeric Is the Hottest Ingredient to Add Into Your DIY Skin Care Routine

If rubbing a bright orange substance on your face makes you feel like Donald Trump, don't worry - what we're about to tell you has nothing to do with politics. The formula we're referring to is the turmeric spice, and it's a buzzy term in the holistic health community right now. The spice hails from India and has traditionally been used in cooking (it's part of the ginger root family). But these days, people are adding it to everything from their smoothies to face masks. We're going to explore the latter since turmeric has many amazing beauty uses.

"Turmeric is an age-old ingredient used for its internal as well as external health-and-beauty-promoting properties," explained Sheetal Rawal, a scientist and founder of brand Apsara. "It has been used in the Indian subcontinent for thousands of years for its natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and color-balancing properties. Currently, it is also gaining quite some fame in the West for its significant antioxidant properties."

This ability to bring down inflammation translates to skin care by minimizing acne or bringing down a rosacea flare-up. You can also rely on it for antiaging benefits. "It is loaded with key vitamins that facilitate important skin renewal processes, such as the creation of collagen," added Adina Grigore, the founder of S.W. Basics.

Barbara Close, founder and CEO of Naturopathica, explained the science behind this: "Extracts from turmeric, known as tetrahydrocurcuminoids, efficiently quench free radicals on the surface of the skin due to their antioxidant properties. This protects against damage from ultraviolet radiation and environmental irritants."

In fact, it is even incorporated into prebridal Indian rituals, during which the bride and groom are massaged with a turmeric-infused, homemade herbal concoction. "Turmeric in this age-old concoction is supposed to bring out the 'hidden glow' of the skin," Rawal shared.

Those with sensitive skin should not fear turmeric just because it's spicy. "It's wonderful for anyone who has supersensitive skin, but even for normal skin types, it really makes the skin look flawless," said Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and owner of her eponymous brand. "Make sure you are using pure organic turmeric. Some generic store-bought options contain dyes that can stain your skin after application. This is one ingredient where you must go organic."

If you're still hung up on having an Oompa Loompa face, Grigore has more to add on the matter. "And no, to answer your burning question, it won't dye your skin yellow," she mused. "If you're using it in powder form, just be sure to rinse it off thoroughly!"

Keep reading to hear more from these pros and others about how to incorporate turmeric into your beauty routine - DIY recipes included!

14 Great Romantic Comedies to Stream on Netflix

It's no secret that the last few years have been a bleak time for romantic comedies, though 2016 brought some new hopefuls to the genre. I don't know what happened to girls just standing in front of boys asking them to love them or why Tom Hanks isn't shutting down Meg Ryan's shop anymore; I just know that this genre isn't as good as it used to be. To help matters, I've picked out a handful of great romantic comedies that you can stream on Netflix - movies that are either old favorites, gems you may have never seen, or semirecent movies you missed for whatever reason. Get ready to fall in love again!

The Genius Reason You Should Secure an Email Address For Your Baby ASAP

From personalized baby books to convenient apps, there are countless ways to track your baby's big milestones these days. But documenting your children's lives when you're busy raising them often falls at the bottom of the to-do list. The two empty baby books I received at a shower that are sitting in a closet somewhere come to mind!

Which is why my friend's advice to start an email account for each of my kids is so genius. It's as simple as signing your little one up and then emailing them whenever there's a memory that needs capturing. Pro tip: You might have to fudge their age since some services won't allow users under a certain limit.

Just got their first steps on video? Email them the footage with the date in the subject line. Cracked you up with a hilarious phrase? Shoot them a message recounting their words. Scrolling through pictures of them after they fall asleep? Send a sweet note along with your favorite snap.

I opened accounts for each of my boys and not only do they now have emails with their names to use in the future, but I have an easy way to capture memories of them that's a little more lasting than the notes section on my phone.

Beyond sharing those obvious milestones and fun photos, for me it's become something more. I also use their accounts as a sort of journal to share stories about my husband and I, or family history that I want them to know one day. I've written about our vacations and even documented their birth stories. I find it's such a sweet way of communicating with them that I hope captures the nostalgia of these early years for them when they're older.

I'm hopeful their full inbox will be something they cherish and read through fondly after I pass the accounts off to them some day. But for now, I've loved being able to keep track of all those memories in one place, all from my phone.

The Viral Story of an Abandoned Dog Found in a Garbage Bag Will Make Your Heart Cry

Malissa Sergent Lewis was driving through her hometown of Harlan, KY, when she noticed a black garbage bag moving along the side of the road. Curious, Lewis went to inspect the bag only to find an abandoned puppy inside of it. Though the puppy had a collar, it didn't have a tag.

In an interview with The Dodo, Lewis explained the unexpected and horrifying discovery. "I could hardly wrap my mind around that," she said. "Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out." As one might imagine, the dog was relieved to be found. "As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail. He knew he was OK," she said.

Lewis has yet to figure out the circumstances surrounding the dog's abandonment, but investigators are reportedly looking into it. Lewis did share the miraculous story on Facebook in a series of videos that have gone viral with close to 20,000 shares. Accompanying the videos is a caption that states, "If this is your puppy, let me know. If you are the scoundrel who put it in a garbage bag and tossed it on the side of the road . . . you're a sicko."

Lewis is currently trying to find a permanent home for the dog, but she will continue to foster it until that happens. Perhaps one of those 900,000 viewers might be interested?

28 Fashion Facts About Victoria Beckham That Just Might Blow Your Mind

My first and fondest memory of Victoria Beckham is from Spice World. The then-pop star, who went by the name of Posh, stood in front of the mirror on the Spice Girls tour bus, admiring herself in "the little Gucci dress," as Emma, Mel B, Mel C, and Geri looked on in amusement. Posh was trying to figure out what to wear, which always culminated in her go-to uniform. Not much has changed.

While Victoria has recently defined her style as rather relaxed with a pair of sneakers, there's no denying her taste for sophistication. She prefers structured silhouettes that still flatter the body from all angles and she designs her collections to reflect that aesthetic season after season.

While she's made the tricky transition from celebrity to well-respected, award-winning fashion leader (she's set to receive an OBE from the queen for her fashion and charity work) her love for the industry has remained steadfast along the way. Read on to track Victoria's fashion timeline and learn plenty of facts you've never read before.

This Eye-Opening Video Is All About That 1 Phrase Parents Should Stop Using

A recent eye-opening video from Conejo Productions is shedding light on the phrase "boys will be boys" and its detrimental implications. The powerful video comes from the narrative perspective of Jorge Diaz, an actor who's appeared on Jane the Virgin and Elena of Avalor. In it, he addresses his daughter as he shares his complicated history with the aforementioned phrase.

At the start of the video, Jorge explained feeling content with the phrase when he was younger. He said, "At 7 years old, we were at my grandma's for a family dinner. Abuela always made the girl cousins set the table and serve the food. When my oldest cousin, Mireya, complained about the boys not helping, she was told, 'It wasn't a boy's job!' I thought, 'Lucky me, I get to keep on playing!'"

As he got older, however, Jorge realized how differently his female relatives were treated. While Jorge didn't have a curfew and was free to hang out with his friends whenever he pleased, his sister was subjected to much stricter rules. When Jorge pressed his father about the matter, he replied, "Boys know what they're doing and girl's just don't."

The video's parting message is particularly beautiful. Jorge said, "Being a man is about challenging the script that was handed down to us and I especially don't want you, mi hija, to grow up in a world where you will be told, 'Boys will be boys.' It's time to change that narrative."

The video is part of an ongoing series from Conejo Production and FreeWaves, titled DIS . . . Miss, that challenges gender expectations through various mediums. Watch the poignant video, above.

5 Creative, Flavorful Hacks For Your Tea Infuser

If you're an avid tea drinker, then you've probably fully embraced the sometimes unwieldy loose-leaf variety. True tea connoisseurs arm themselves with the trusty tea infuser, a handy little tool invented for the sole purpose of steeping your tea while keeping the loose leaves out of your cup. What you might not know about this seemingly single-purpose tool is that it can be used in a variety of ways that extend far beyond your afternoon tea sessions.

Resembling a mesh ball on a chain - or sometimes on tongs - the tea infuser works like a mesh-lined cage that traps the tea leaves as it gets dunked into a cup or pot of hot water. But tea is just one of the many things you can put into the mesh contraption. In fact, a tea infuser can be used to infuse so many flavors into so many different substances, it should really just be called an infuser. Here are five flavorful hacks you can pull off with a tea infuser.
