We've Figured Out the Secret to Hilary Swank's Sculpted Arms - It's This 1 Exercise

We have to admit, we love that celebrities are giving us a sneak peek into their lives and beginning to talk about, and show us, their workout routines. Jessica Biel showed us her insane pistol squat skills, every Friday we can count on Halle Berry to give us a new workout to follow, and now, Hilary Swank is getting in on the action.

Hilary shared a video on Instagram of her doing push-ups, and damn, all we can say is that she makes them look incredibly easy. Instead of doing a traditional push-up, Hilary decided to take it to the next level.

With her feet on gliders and on top of a slide board, she lowers down into a push-up while simultaneously abducting her legs (moving them away from the center of her body). Because of the abduction, not only is she working her arms, she's also working her abs and inner thighs. Before you go and try this move, make sure you've got the traditional push-up down pat.

Watch the video above to see just how much of a badass Hilary is.

All the Fitness Gear Keeping Us Motivated This October

October is time for chilly morning runs through the changing foliage, cozying up with a warm mug of coffee or tea, and bundling up in layers. As we embrace the Fall season, take a look at what our Fitness editors are loving this month.

Ciara's Postbaby Workout Routine Sounds SO Intense, I'm Gonna Need to "Level Up"

Ciara has been flaunting her incredibly toned "Goodies" for the last two decades, but believe us when we tell you, her muscular figure takes a lot of hard work. In the November issue of Cosmopolitan, the 32-year-old singer opened up about her postbaby workout regimen since welcoming Sienna Princess Wilson in April of last year, and it's very intense.

"It was kind of like, wake up in the morning, breastfeed, eat a small meal, go train, come back in, breastfeed, eat another meal, go train, then come back, have another meal, and then a third training session at night," she told the publication. "It was a good challenge, one I set for myself, not for anyone else."

Working out three times a day is a lot, especially after just giving birth, but Ciara emphasized that it's for the mental benefits as well as the physical. She said, "Taking care of myself makes me feel really good. And I want to keep it sexy too, you know." Before we pick our jaws up off the floor and run to the gym, let us remind you that it's important to consult a doctor before starting an intense routine like Ciara's.

This isn't the first time Ciara's opened up about her routine and her constant desire to "Level Up." After giving birth to her first child, Future, in 2014, she lost 60 pounds in four months thanks to a rigorous training routine and her love for the treadmill. "I would go to Gunnar [Peterson] first for my one-hour training session, then I'd have two more cardio sessions later in the day. That, along with a really clean eating plan, was how I lost 60 pounds in four months," Ciara told Shape back in 2015.

While all women ease into a fitness routine after giving birth differently, we have to hand it to Ciara - her determination and dedication are unshakable.

I Fasted 12 Hours For 21 Days - Here Are the 3 Major Changes That Happened to My Body

As a fitness editor, I often write about diets like the low-carb, high-fat keto diet and body-type eating to educate people on the various ways they can reach their health goals. I don't follow a specific diet, but I recently decided to try the Clean Program, a 21-day detox created by Dr. Alejandro Junger, after a client of mine raved about it. I took a lot away from my experience on the program, and one component of the cleanse that I found to be extremely effective is the 12-hour fasting window.

12:12 is a type of intermittent fasting (IF) - a way of eating where the body uses fat as an energy source instead of glucose. Instead of eating whenever you want throughout the day, you're limited to consuming your daily caloric intake within a 12-hour window, and then required to fast for the other 12 hours. This means that if you eat dinner at 8 p.m., you won't have breakfast until 8 a.m. the following morning. 12:12 is considered to be the easiest type of IF, and as a rookie, I have to admit is wasn't hard to follow at all. Continue reading to find out the changes that happened to my body over the span of 21 days.

I Felt Extremely Hungry in the Beginning

As suggested by Dr. Junger in his book Clean, I decided to write down my daily meals and how I felt each day on the program. My first three days of notes talk about how terrible I am at making tasty shakes and how hungry I felt when I woke up. Most days, I wake up between 4:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. to train clients, work out, and then get to work. Before starting Clean, I would have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and not being able to do this during the cleanse was hard initially.

Around day 10, I began to notice that the extreme feelings of hunger I had experienced were beginning to subside. I won't say that I didn't feel an ounce of hunger as I continued the program, but I no longer felt like I was starving. It also helped that I began hacking my shake the night before, adding more fat and protein to hold me over until I broke the fast.

I Discovered I Had Bloating Issues

I never considered myself to be a person who experienced bloating, except for on my period, but after doing the 12-hour fast for 21 days, I realized that I do get bloated, especially when I consume too much dairy and grains. The pressure, gas, and cramping I had previously experienced at times in my lower abdomen had finally gone away. As I began to reintroduce these food groups back into my diet to identity triggers, I confirmed that consuming too much dairy and grains irritated both my stomach and skin.

I Stopped Mindlessly Snacking

I'm the person who will eat whatever is in my home, whenever. Cocoa Puffs in the kitchen? Definitely eating those. A bag of sweet and salty organic popcorn? Gone in two hours. I also have a habit of eating a meal and then snacking afterward. Not because I'm hungry, but because I'm bored or not in the best of moods. The 12-hour fast helped me notice and reduce this habit, and I'm happy to report that on most days, I've eliminated my snacking-just-to-snack habit.

Overall, I found 12:12 to be extremely easy to follow. I completed the Clean Program a month ago, and although I refuse to completely cut out cookie dough ice cream, this is definitely a habit I plan on keeping.

New Study Finds Vitamin D Deficiency and Obesity Linked to Greater Risk of Breast Cancer

While breast cancer risk increases with age and there are several factors that contribute to developing breast cancer such as genetics and getting older, a new study has found a link between being deficient in vitamin D and an increased risk of breast cancer.

The study, published in Menopause, the journal of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), involved more than 600 Brazilian women and suggests that vitamin D may reduce the risk of breast cancer. Researchers concluded that postmenopausal women had an increased risk of vitamin D deficiency at the time they were diagnosed with breast cancer compared to women in the same age group without cancer, according to ScienceDaily.

"Although published literature is inconsistent about the benefits of vitamin D levels and breast cancer, this study and others suggest that higher levels of vitamin D in the body are associated with lowered breast cancer risk," said JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, NCMP, executive director of NAMS, according to ScienceDaily. "Vitamin D may play a role in controlling breast cancer cells or stopping them from growing. Vitamin D comes from direct sunlight exposure, vitamin D3 supplements, or foods rich in vitamin D."

The recommended daily allowance of vitamin D is 600 IU, but talk to your doctor to see if you need to supplement with more.

Follow This 6-Step Fat-Loss Checklist to Lose Weight and Get Lean

If you're not sure where to begin on your fat-loss journey, here's a simple checklist posted by CPPS (certified physical preparation specialist) coach Nick Krantz (@nickkrantzfit on Instagram). He's also a precision nutrition certified coach, with experience helping hundreds of people at his gym get lean and build muscle. "The only way this process is going to work is if you stay true to yourself and your plan," he wrote in his Instagram caption. This list lays out exactly what needs to happen in order to ensure you're doing everything right to reach your fat-loss goals.

  1. Calorie deficit: Set your calorie range by multiplying your body weight by 10 to 12. Your caloric intake should fall somewhere within these numbers. Figuring out an appropriate calorie deficit will take some trial and error, so monitor your calorie intake for two to three weeks, and if you don't see a change, decrease by five percent. Tracking your calories by measuring your food and using an app like My Fitness Pal for accuracy is key.
  2. Strength training: "Women should lift four times a week if possible," said Jillian Michaels. "Train each muscle twice a week with two days of rest between training days." These types of workouts will build muscle and burn fat to help you get lean. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself and lift heavy!
  3. Adequate protein: Protein builds muscle and satiates hunger. NASM-certified personal trainer Sam Altieri said you need about 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, depending on how active you are. A good rule of thumb is to aim for 20 to 30 grams of protein per meal, including sources like salmon, skinless chicken, tofu, beans, plant-based protein powder, or eggs.
  4. Get more sleep: Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Aside from helping you rest and recover, getting enough sleep regulates the hormones in charge of hunger. If you don't get enough sleep, cravings will actually increase.
  5. Be extremely patient: You didn't gain weight overnight, so don't expect your fat to disappear overnight either. Be patient, don't give up, and you will see results.
  6. Repeat all steps above consistently: Stay consistent over time with both your calorie intake, your workouts, and your sleep. You can't expect to see results if you put in the effort half the time.

"Cycle through all the steps above day in and day out!" Nick added in the caption. "There will be days that you may fall off but that's OK!! That's life! You just have to jump right back on the train!"

Sculpt Your Shoulders and Abs With Kelsey Wells's 5-Move Strengthening Workout

Kelsey Wells is a badass in the gym, and we can't get enough of her strength workouts on Instagram. Creator of the PWR program (found on the SWEAT app), Kelsey is always coming up with intense strengthening workouts that you can do at home or at the gym. She's constantly sharing snippets of the PWR workouts, and her week 23 workout is all about the shoulders and abs. If you're looking for a challenge, this is definitely it.

The Workout

First, you'll do a triset (performing three exercises with little to no rest in between each) of the following exercises:

Take 30 seconds of rest, and repeat for a total of three rounds. Then proceed to the burnout:

Be sure to check out how Kelsey does each move in the video above.

I'm a Trainer, and These 10 Exercises Will Turn Fat Into Muscle and Tone Your Butt

It's true what they say, "If you don't use it, you'll lose it." When it comes to your gluteal muscles, this is 1,000 percent true. It doesn't matter if you feel like you were shortchanged in the butt department or you have one like Jennifer Lopez's. In order to keep your butt strong, round, firm, lifted, toned, tight - whatever adjective you like to use - you've got to constantly work your gluteal muscles.

Whether your physical therapist has prescribed activating your glutes to help with an injury, you're looking to improve your performance during workouts, or you're just here for vanity, I've got some exercises that will get the job done and really work your glutes. The 10 exercises ahead are not meant to be done as one workout. If you do that, you're in for jello legs and an extremely sore lower body. Instead, pick three to five that really speak to you and begin doing them two times a week. You can opt to use heavy weight and do fewer reps and sets (four to six sets of one to five reps), or you can do them with light to medium weight and more reps and sets (one to three sets of 12-20 reps).

Now that you've got the moves to work your glutes, don't forget to adjust your daily caloric intake as needed. You may begin to feel hungrier since you're building muscle, and that's absolutely normal. The more you work out, the more energy you expend, which means the more food you'll need to recover and refuel.

Belly Fat Begone! These 3 Full-Body Workouts Help You Kick It

Belly fat can be stubborn, but Sarah Chadwell, NASM, CPT, a certified trainer, has three simple but effective full-body workouts to increase fat-burning.

Full body? Yes, target fat reduction isn't really a thing, meaning you can't tell your body to only loose fat around your midsection. You must burn fat all over your body to reduce belly fat - as well as add a healthy diet and plenty of sleep. We know that's a rough thing to accept, but when you start practicing these three workouts, you'll definitely see results.

Looking to Lose Belly Fat? Here's What You Need to Be Doing at the Gym

If you find that your midsection is your biggest trouble spot, you're not alone. Many people, especially women, find their bellies are the first place they gain weight and the hardest area to shed fat. Whether you're looking to flatten your tummy or sculpt abs, blasting away belly fat is no easy task.

Here's a tough dose of reality: getting a flat belly can't be done by exercise alone. In fact, as you lose weight, it's impossible to spot-target fat loss. That means you could do all the crunches in the world and still not reveal a flat stomach if you aren't actively losing weight. To shed belly fat, you need to lose weight overall by eating in a calorie deficit. If you're not sure what your daily caloric intake should be, using this formula is a good place to start.

Once you've dialed in your nutrition (eating whole, unprocessed foods and minimal sugar is best), then you can focus on what you're doing at the gym. Getting a flat belly requires a mix of cardio, HIIT workouts, and core exercises. The cardio will rev up your calorie burn, HIIT has been proven to boost fat loss, and core exercises will strengthen your ab muscles.

Here are some of the best exercises and workouts you can incorporate at the gym to flatten your tummy and lose belly fat for good.

If Cardio and Dumbbells Hooked Up, This Fat-Burning Workout Would Be the Sweaty Result

Most experts agree that you don't necessarily need cardio to lose fat. But they also agree that including a bit of cardio, specifically HIIT, can speed up fat-loss results. This workout is all over that!

We've included cardio bursts with full-body dumbbell exercises that build muscle but also keep the heart rate up. CrossFit coach Sefton Hirsch of Champlain Valley CrossFit told POPSUGAR, "I like these dumbbell exercises because you can get the legs involved." It was his idea to include the man maker burpee, so when you fall to the floor after this 20-minute workout, you have him to thank!

The Workout

Equipment needed: A jump rope (just pretend if you don't have one) and a set of medium-weight dumbbells

Directions: After warming up for five minutes with some light cardio and dynamic stretching, complete two rounds of these 10 exercises for a 20-minute workout (or three rounds for a 30-minute workout). Do 40 seconds of each move, then take a 20-second rest. Push yourself hard, getting in as many quality reps as you can!

Deadlift with front row

This isn't a drill, people. Spirit Halloween partnered with Disney and launched more than 100 officially licensed Hocus Pocus-themed items - no virgins and no black flame candles necessary.

The line includes costumes like Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, plus Billy Butcherson, and an array of decor, like mugs, stemless glasses, and wall art. The only thing missing is a long-form version of "I Put a Spell on You," because seriously, why hasn't Disney come out with that yet? I'd like to sing it in my car without opening YouTube, thanks.

Can You Have Stevia on the Keto Diet? We Answer Once and For All

If you're considering embarking on the keto diet, then you're probably familiar with the basics: it's a high-fat, moderate-protein, superlow-carbohydrate diet that puts your body into fat-burning state of ketosis. Since your carbohydrate count must be low, typically less than 50 grams a day, that means sugar is almost entirely off-limits.

However, you can enjoy some artificial sweeteners in moderation. This includes monk fruit, sugar alcohols, and yes, stevia. In fact, stevia is a key ingredient in many keto fat bomb dessert recipes. Although stevia has no calories or sugar, it still hasn't been approved by the FDA; rather, it is classified as "Generally Recognized as Safe," or GRAS. Substances categorized as GRAS means they are considered safe through scientific review or expert consensus, but are exempt from the rigorous requirements that would make it FDA-approved. Another issue with eating stevia is that since it's 200 times sweeter than sugar, it may lead you to crave more sugary foods and simple carbohydrates.

So yes, you can have stevia on the keto diet. Just make sure you enjoy it in moderation. In general, a well-formulated keto diet should be rich in whole, minimally processed foods such as leafy greens, nonstarchy vegetables, unprocessed meat, nuts, healthy oils, and full-fat dairy. If you need a touch of sweetness, such as in your coffee or for a keto bomb recipe, then powdered or liquid stevia can be used. But once you cut out sugar and use other keto-approved sweeteners only sparingly, you likely won't even crave it anymore.

The Crème Shop x Sanrio Collection Is Kawaii - That's Japanese For "Cute" - as Can Be

As a grown woman, I still have a soft spot for all things Sanrio - and I know I'm not the only one. Now, thanks to The Crème Shop's new collaboration with the iconic brand, I can indulge my enduring love of the nostalgic Japanese cartoon characters with my decidedly more adult obsession with skin care.

The Crème Shop x Sanrio's just-launched collection is a whimsical selection of beauty accessories like spa headbands and sleep masks emblazoned with Hello Kitty and Keroppi faces, self-care goodies like sheet masks and bath bombs, and on-the-go standbys like cleansing towelettes and hand cream. But don't be fooled by the adorable art dotting the packaging and candy-inspired scents; these products come equipped with all The Crème Shop's cruelty-free, high-quality skincare ingredients to boot.

Some of my favorite products so far? The Gudetama Handy Dandy Handcream ($10), which smells exactly like gummy peach rings - I have to hide the tube from my puppy, who loves the smell just as much as I do. I'm also a major fan of the Softer Than Cookies Sheet Mask ($4), which combines coconut oil and dark chocolate in a superhydrating formula. The easy-to-apply cloth has a rich - but only vaguely chocolate-y! - scent. And the Green Tea Cleansing Towelettes ($6) have earned a permanent place in my glovebox for a nondrying, post-workout wipe-down.

The collection debuts today, Oct. 1, online at The Crème Shop, in Sanrio stores, and on Sanrio.com. Later this month, it will also be available in Hot Topic stores, and in 2019, on shelves at your local CVS. Read on for your first look at every single product in the collection.

Roseanne Barr Reveals the Dark Way Her Character Will Be Killed Off of The Conners

Ever since Roseanne Barr's racist tweets got the reboot of her '90s comedy Roseanne canceled on ABC, fans of the family sitcom have been wondering one thing (other than why Barr insists on tweeting such vile garbage, of course): how will the spinoff, The Conners, work without her? Now it seems we finally have an answer, courtesy of Barr herself.

While appearing on Brandon Straka's YouTube show, Walk Away, over the weekend, the 65-year-old actress said her character will be killed off; apparently, the Conner matriarch is going to die of an overdose.

"Oh yeah, they killed her. They have her die of an opioid overdose," she said, before touching on how frustrated she is about the way the show's writers ended her character's arc. "It wasn't enough to [fire me] - they had to so cruelly insult the people who loved that family and that show."

Barr unsurprisingly left the series on bad terms given her abrasive, racist behavior and bizarre Twitter tirades, but the seeds of Roseanne Conner dying of an overdose have been planted ever since the reboot premiered. The character is seen struggling with an addiction to painkillers due to an injured knee, and fans actually already predicted an accidental overdose would be the cause of her demise in The Conners when the reboot was canceled earlier this Summer.

Barr did note, however, that she's trying to move on from the entire situation. "There's nothing I can do about it. It's done. It's over," she said. "There's no fight left."

I Wore the Same Exact Outfit to Fashion Week Twice, Because Why the Hell Shouldn't I?

Dressing up for Fashion Week can be a total and utter nightmare. Not only do you feel pressured into wearing the latest designs and figuring out the coolest things to wear, but there's also a certain status that comes along with it. Since there are photographers everywhere during this time, people go out of their way to construct looks they know will get them photographed and land them in street style galleries. This season, I decided to do something different: wear an outfit I had already worn to NYFW exactly a year ago.

While I love my job and attending runway shows, recently, I have felt kind of "over" the stress of figuring out what to wear to Fashion Week. Sure, it's fun to play dress up, and women should feel free to splurge on what they're excited about and embrace the opportunity to wear emerging designers they care about. I borrowed a dress from Zimmermann and a pair of sneakers from Ash for this year's shows, but I wasn't about to go spend a thousand dollars on an outfit or pull 20 different outfits from designers to send over this time around.

As trends change each season, it's easy to get swept away in wearing the latest item of the moment, but it's also very important to stay true to who you are and your personal aesthetic. (That being said, I'm still always willing to try new trends from time to time.) For the Tom Ford Spring '19 show, I rewore the same Fame & Partners black and white gingham dress that I wore to Rihanna's Fenty x Puma show last year. Ironically enough, both shows ended up taking place at the same venue, the Park Avenue Armory.

I figured it's a super flattering dress, I bought it with my own money, and I felt so damn confident when I wore it - why shouldn't I be able to rock it multiple times? Gingham is a classic print that hasn't gone out of style over the years and I am personally very fond of it. With this in mind, I slipped into my minidress and styled it with the same short black booties and chain-link YSL bag I had carried last year. The only thing I ended up changing was the addition of a new pair of earrings.

I loved how I looked in this dress so much, I took multiple pictures of myself in the look during both seasons (shout-out to my boyfriend Pat, aka the OG Instagram hubby), and I didn't even care if any of my social media followers noticed. I've even worn it a couple of times in the Summer and posted it on the 'gram. In the end, this is my Fashion Week dress, and I'll wear it as many times as I want to - because why the hell not? The Haunting of Hill House: Netflix's New TV Show Looks Scarier Than Most Horror Movies

I hope you're ready for Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House to make your October a hell of a lot spookier. The upcoming 10-episode series, which drops on Oct. 12, is just as scary as any of the streaming giant's selection of horror movies. Billed as a "reimagining" of Shirley Jackson's iconic 1953 novel, the show follows five siblings who grew up in America's most famous haunted house and how the home's deadly secrets are still plaguing them decades later. Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus, Gerald's Game) is on board as director and executive producer, while the cast is led by Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, McKenna Grace, and more. Yes, the Queen Knows How to Drive - but There's a Catch!

There's no disputing that the Queen of England has had an extraordinary life, but it turns out there's a little bit of room left for the ordinary. She's well known to apply lipstick in public, and she even personally tends to her beloved horses, but there's one task that makes her even more like us: driving!

Yes, the Queen of England knows how to drive and still does! She learned to drive when she trained as a mechanic and driver with the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945 during WWII. And while these days she mostly rides in the backseat of one of her luxury state vehicles or opts to travel by horse and carriage, she does get behind the wheel herself from time to time.

The queen was most recently spotted driving in May 2017 when she attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show in her custom Range Rover (pictured below). Just days before that, she left her chauffeur behind to drive her Jaguar home following church services in Windsor Park. Perhaps her most famous stint behind the wheel took place in 1998 when she took then-Crown Prince Abdullah for a drive around Balmoral in her Land Rover. And while it's not often photographed, the queen also frequently drives herself around her Sandringham estate.

But there's one catch that makes the queen's driving abilities a little less than average: she doesn't actually have a driver's license. That's right - the Queen of England is the only person in Britain who can drive without a license. And she doesn't need plates on her state car. You didn't really think Her Majesty would waste time at the DMV, did you?

Although an official release date is still TBD, the series (which has already scored a season three pick-up) looks just as colorful as ever. "Forget your troubles and just get happy" as you watch the brief teaser above.

Want to Know Where Bernadette Went in the Namesake Novel? Here's Your Answer

You might already be hearing some hype for next year's sure-to-be-successful flick Where'd You Go, Bernadette, which stars Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, and Kristen Wiig. The film is set to be released in March and is based on the 2012 mystery-comedy novel by Maria Semple. Can't wait to find out the twists and turns of the film, but don't have time to read the book? No problem. Here's what you need to know about the novel.

The narrator is Bee Branch, a 15-year-old who seemingly has it all: She's a straight-S student (for "Surpasses Excellence") who lives in Seattle with her genius parents. Her father, Elgin, works at Microsoft on a robot featured in "the fourth-most-watched TED talk" ever, and her mother, Bernadette, is a former award-winning architect. But something goes terribly wrong: Bernadette disappears, and Bee is left trying to figure out just what happened.

Bee traces the disappearance back to her perfect report card: Her parents promised her she could have anything if she got a perfect report card for all her years in this school. She chooses a family trip to Antarctica. But there's a big problem: Bernadette is practically housebound due to crippling agoraphobia. She has a personal assistant in India, Manjula, to whom she delegates most of her tasks (including arranging the Antarctica trip) to ensure she doesn't have to leave the house and deal with people.

Through a series of documents - police and FBI reports, school documents and emails written by various characters - we learn more about Bernadette. We find out she has an ongoing feud with some of the mothers at Bee's private school, mainly her neighbor Audrey Griffin, who accuses Bernadette of running over her foot with her car (which is untrue). Meanwhile, Soo-Lin Lee-Segal, a friend of Audrey's, works for Elgin and tells him about Bernadette's alleged attacks on Audrey. Soo-Lin and Elgin begin an emotional affair, then the FBI contacts Elgin to say that "Manjula" is actually a Russian money scamming ring planning to defraud Elgin and Bernadette. Elgin arranges for an intervention with Bernadette to approach her with the information, but the FBI and police get involved, so in the middle of the intervention, Bernadette goes to the bathroom and disappears.

Soo-Lin tells Audrey that she is pregnant with Elgin's child, though it's revealed it was the result of a drunken one-night stand, which Elgin completely regrets. Elgin and Soo-Lin learn that Bernadette actually took the trip to Antarctica herself and go there to confront her only to have her disappear again. Meanwhile, Bee receives a package that contains the bulk of the correspondence used in the novel, later revealed to be from Audrey to help her understand what happened to her mother. It's revealed that, after Audrey discovered that her accusations against Bernadette were going to result in her being hospitalized, Audrey actually helped Bernadette escape from her house, told her about Soo-Lin and Elgin, and helped her get to Antarctica in the hopes that she would be able to speak to Elgin and Bee there.

So how does it all wrap up? Bee, with the help of her father, tracks down her mother in Antarctica, finding her alive and well at Palmer Station, an American base where scientists work and research. It's unclear what happens in the end, but it seems the Branch family is ready to make amends.

Every Show That Has Been Canceled in 2018

After a stellar year full of exceptional TV shows, we almost forgot that we might have to say goodbye to a few of them in 2018. Now that we've reached September, plenty of networks have already given shows like One Mississippi, Damnation, Ghosted, Roseanne, and The Break With Michelle Wolf the ax. Amazon and Netflix have been big offenders, but series on networks like NBC, The CW, and ABC aren't safe, either. Pour one out for the shows that have taken their last TV gasp ahead.

ABC

  • The Middle: Nine seasons later, ABC is putting this sitcom out to pasture.
  • Roseanne: The family sitcom was initially granted a second season of the reboot (an 11th season overall), until one of Roseanne Barr's many racist tweets triggered its cancellation.
  • Once Upon a Time: The long-running fairy-tale series will wrap up after its current seventh season.
  • The Mayor: Lea Michele starred in the brand new comedy about a hip-hop artist who runs for mayor to promote his mixtape, but it didn't make it past its midseason break.
  • Alex Inc: The freshman comedy about a podcast host, which starred Zach Braff, only lasted one season.
  • The Crossing: This sci-fi show had a Lost vibe to it, but ultimately its convoluted story lead to its cancellation.
  • Deception: We're sorry to report that you'll no longer get to see the antics of a Las Vegas magician helping the FBI solve cases now that this show has been canceled after one season.
  • Marvel's Inhumans: Awful red wigs weren't the only problem with this show, which thankfully only lasted one season.
  • Quantico: Say goodbye to one of the sexiest casts around, because this FBI drama is over after a three-season run.
  • Kevin (Probably) Saves the World: The freshman dramedy starring Jason Ritter wasn't picked up for a second season.
  • Designated Survivor: ABC's political drama will end after just two seasons this Spring. Lucky for fans, Netflix revived the show for a third season.

Amazon

  • Mozart in the Jungle: Despite picking up two Golden Globes in 2016, Amazon canceled the romantic musical series after four seasons starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
  • One Mississippi: This Amazon original series and dark comedy was inspired by real events in comic Tig Notaro's life and lasted two seasons.
  • I Love Dick: The adaptation of Chris Kraus's novel of the same name aired for one season and starred Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Hahn.
  • Jean-Claude Van Johnson: Jean-Claude Van Damme's comedic spy series is no more after a six-episode run.
  • Transparent: The show's fifth season will be its last.

AMC

  • Dietland: Despite positive reviews from critics, this dark AMC dramedy has been canceled after its first season run.

CBS

  • The Big Bang Theory: The geeky comedy will bid fans adieu for the last time when it airs its 12th and final season.
  • Me, Myself & I: The freshman series will not be back for another season.
  • Scorpion: The drama starring Katherine McPhee was canceled after four seasons.
  • Kevin Can Wait: The Kevin James comedy was not picked up for a third season.
  • Code Black: After three seasons, the medical drama came to an end.

The CW

  • Life Sentence: Lucy Hale's dramedy has been canceled after just one season.
  • The Originals: After five seasons, this Vampire Diaries spinoff is wrapping up for good.
  • Valor: This military drama starring Matt Barr and Christina Ochoa will end after its first season 13-episode run.
  • iZombie: The upcoming fifth season of the zombie comedy will be its last.

Fox

  • Ghosted: Adam Scott and Craig Robinson's supernatural comedy got the ax after just one season.
  • The Exorcist: This modern-day take on the classic horror tale lasted two seasons.
  • Last Man on Earth: After three odd and funny seasons, Will Forte's comedy is gone for good.
  • The Mick: Kaitlin Olson's raunchy comedy had a two season run.
  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Though it's beloved by critics and fans, this cop comedy will not return for a sixth season (fortunately NBC picked it up!).
  • New Girl: Zooey Deschanel's quirky comedy is coming to an end after seven seasons.

Freeform

  • The Fosters: Despite a strong fan base for the family drama, it was canceled after five seasons. Fortunately a spinoff is in the works!
  • Famous in Love: The Bella Thorne vehicle is no longer.
  • Shadowhunters: The series will end after its current season.

Hulu

  • The Path: Aaron Paul's cult drama is over, but luckily you'll be able to see him over on HBO's Westworld soon enough.
  • Chance: Hugh Laurie's thriller will not get a third season from the streaming network.
  • Shut Eye: The Jeffrey Donovan-led drama has been axed after two seasons.
  • Please Like Me: Hulu apparently didn't "like" this Australian comedy enough, since it's been canceled after four seasons.
  • UnREAL: The show's fourth season will serve as its last.

MTV

  • The Shannara Chronicles: This sci-fi fantasy show based on a popular YA series only lasted two seasons before MTV gave it the boot.

NBC

  • Great News: Funny and heartfelt, it was a surprise to many when this show ended after two seasons.
  • Rise: This musical drama had a controversial start, which perhaps we should've taken as a sign it wouldn't last more than one season.
  • Champions: The Mindy Kaling and Anders Holm comedy aired its first and only season earlier this year.
  • Harry: Despite Harry Connick Jr.'s charm, his talk show was canceled after two seasons.
  • Shades of Blue: Jennifer Lopez's cop will end with a 10-episode third season.
  • The Brave: This military-themed series was relatively well-received, but it wasn't enough to save it from being canceled after its freshman season.
  • The Night Shift: This four-season medical drama has taken its last breath.
  • Taken: The TV version of Liam Neeson's big screen hit is being taken off the air after two seasons.

Netflix

  • House of Cards: Season six will be Claire Underwood's final chance to raise hell in DC.
  • The Break with Michelle Wolf: Michelle Wolf's star has been on the rise after her kickass appearance at the White House Correspondents Dinner, but Netflix decided to shut her late night show down after just a handful of episodes.
  • Chelsea: Netflix hasn't been kind to weekly late night shows, also giving Chelsea Handler's talk show the ax after two seasons.
  • The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale: See what we meant about talk shows? This series was also canceled, after just one season.
  • Lady Dynamite: Comedian Maria Bamford's comedy has been canceled after only two seasons.
  • Disjointed: Our love of Kathy Bates couldn't save Chuck Lorre's weed comedy from getting the ax after season one.
  • Everything Sucks!: In news that, well, sucks, Netflix has decided not to move forward with this quirky '90s comedy that aired for just one season.
  • Seven Seconds: Regina King won an Emmy for her performance in the crime drama, but it won't return for season two.
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season four will be this comedy's last.

Paramount Network

  • American Woman: Apparently even Alicia Silverstone's charm wasn't enough to keep this period piece on the air for longer than one season.
  • Heathers: The long-gestating reboot of the '80s film never made it to air, but is reportedly being shopped around.

Showtime

Starz

  • Ash vs. Evil Dead: The gory, Bruce Campbell-starring comedy is dead (like, really dead) after three seasons.

SyFy

  • The Expanse: SyFy pulled the plug on this show after season three, but luckily a strong fan base convinced Amazon to pick it up for season four.
  • 12 Monkeys: The sci-fi series won't go on after it's fourth season.
  • Blood Drive: The network pulled the plug on this series after one season.

TBS

  • People of Earth: The Wyatt Cenac-led sci-fi comedy was canceled after two seasons.

USA Network

  • Damnation: Logan Marshall-Green's tense drama about "the secret history of the 1930s American heartland" had the plug pulled after just one season.
  • Shooter: The action-thriller is ending after season three.
  • Mr. Robot: Rami Malek's hacker drama will air for a final fourth season.
