If This Theory Is True, Jon Snow May Find Out About His Parents in a Truly Bizarre Way
Here there be dragons! That's pretty much the tagline that should go with Game of Thrones, but it could also, possibly relate specifically to Winterfell. While we personally ascribe to the theory that Jon Snow will find out about his true parentage via the Crypt Theory, there's another (far-fetched) possibility.
According to what's known to A Song of Ice and Fire readers as the "Testimony of Mushroom," a probably-not-so-reliable accounting of Westeros by the court jester, Mushroom, when Prince Jacaerys Velaryon visits Winterfell with his dragon, Vermax, during The Dance of the Dragons, the great beast lays eggs in Winterfell's crypt.
This is important because Jon Snow is now at Winterfell on the show, and, as we now know, he's a Targaryen. Here's the theory, as proposed by Reddit user jamieandclaire: Jon Snow, morose as ever, wanders the crypt under Winterfell, trying to get his head around this whole "King in the North" business. Exhausted, he decides to take a dip in the hot springs for old times sake. That's when he spots the eggs. As he reaches for them - plop! In they fall into the (very hot) water. So now, you've got a Targaryen and dragon eggs in a heated place. Targaryen magic, inevitably, happens. A day later, dragon hatchlings in tow, Jon Snow realizes that Ned Stark is not his father. And then he starts to sift through the possibilities. Of course, as Vermax was probably male, this conjecture probably isn't true.
There are, however, other ways Jon Snow could discover his heritage. Aside from the popular Crypt Theory, there's also the possibility that Bran could tell him. There is, also, another nifty theory that states there is an actual dragon slumbering under the crypts of Winterfell, which Jon, being a Targaryen, could ride. Then again, Jon could hook back up with Melisandre, who has a way of discovering powers she never knew she had, courtesy of the Lord of Light. Furthermore, there's the idea that Varys and Littlefinger, who know (almost) everything there is to know about everything, could tell him.
In any event, the possibilities for Jon Snow discovering the truth about his parents are endless! We'll have to wait until season seven to find out what happens.
