Supernatural's Jared Padalecki Cracks Up an Entire Room With His Off-the-Cuff "Destiel" Joke
On Sunday, the Supernatural panel slid into Comic-Con in San Diego. While there were scores of noteworthy parts of the event - like Jensen Ackles's tidbit about his daughter, Jared Padalecki's quote about Sam Winchester, and that story about a funny fan encounter - there was one moment in particular that really drove us over the edge.
Of course, any avid Supernatural fan will be familiar with the term, "Destiel." It's one of the more prevalent "ships" in the Supernatural universe, and it's all about the imagined not-so-platonic relationship between Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins). The "ship" is so prevalent, in fact, that the show's monumental 200th episode gave it more than one shout out. Suffice it to say, Jensen and Misha's real-life friendship, while totally void of romantic feelings, is only fueling the fire. Anyway, all of these factors came together in a very beautiful way during Sunday's Comic-Com panel.
During the fan Q&A, one young man asked which of the show's stars has the lowest voice. Even though the panel pretty unanimously agreed that Mark Sheppard - who plays Crowley, the King of Hell - has the deepest register, one of the moderators suggested a "voice off." Misha Collins gave it his "best shot" and jokingly said something in a very high-pitched voice.
"He sounds like that in the morning," Ackles said in jest. Not missing a beat, Jared Padalecki turned to his co-star and asked, "How do you know?!" The whole auditorium immediately burst into laughter and applause. If you need us, we'll be hovering over the crying tears of laughter emoji.
