The Bachelorette: 1 Guy Crashed the Rose Ceremony, But It’s Not What You Think
You know the classic love story: Boy meets girl, girl meets 25 boys, girl falls in love with two out of the three final boys, and she lives happily ever . . . confused? Well, that's the case for now.
In this week's episode of The Bachelorette, the remaining three men got a chance to spend an overnight date in the Fantasy Suite with JoJo. Robby and Jordan were the first two to spend their days exploring Thailand and their nights doing, well, whatever one does in a beautiful room lined with candles. Each of the men told JoJo that they loved her, and although she didn't (or couldn't) say it back to them, she clued in the audience that she was in love with both men. And if you're sensing a little déjà vu here, it's because last season Ben Higgins had told JoJo and Lauren Bushnell (who ultimately got the final rose) that he loved both of them too. Thankfully, JoJo hasn't said those words to either of the men, though.
When it came time for her third date in paradise with Chase, things took a different turn. The second half of the date was going as the other two had been – dinner by the beach accompanied by wine and dim lighting. Then JoJo presented Chase with the Fantasy Suite card invite and he accepted, of course, and the two made their way there.
Up until this point, Chase had let JoJo know that he was falling for her but had yet to say the three big words. He even noted that he has never been the first to say "I love you" to a girl before. So when Chase finally said, "I think after today, especially after tonight, I'm definitely not scared and I want to say that I'm 100 percent in love with you" . . . let's just say that it didn't take a brain surgeon to read the expression on JoJo's face. She excused herself to go outside and after some thinking and tearing up, went back inside.
"When you said that to me, like in my heart and in my gut, I don't think I felt what I thought I was going to feel," JoJo said to Chase. Is this situation ideal? Of course not. But what would have been worse would have been if she continued the night with him, all the while knowing how she really felt.
Chase was (understandably) upset and angry. I mean, he did just pour his heart out on national television only to be dumped right after. Chase said that he shouldn't have said those words to her and was embarrassed about it. A sobbing JoJo tried to make the situation better, saying that she didn't give him the Fantasy Suite invite knowing that she wasn't in the same place as him at the moment.
Fast-forward to the rose ceremony where Robby and Jordan obviously notice that Chase isn't there. JoJo is just in the middle of telling the men that she sent Chase home when he appears at the top of the staircase at the rose ceremony. This is the point where every person watching the show promptly had to pick their jaws up off the floor.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" Chase asked JoJo. (As a side note, I truly hope that we all have the opportunity to make that kind of dramatic entrance at least once in our lives.) The two sat on a nearby bench and Chase began, "I care too much to let our relationship end the way it did the other night. I think, you know, I was shocked." He made it clear that he wasn't asking for a second chance, but he still had a lot of love for her. We can't blame Chase for being upset and angry, but luckily he had some time to think about the events that had just gone down.
"But I'm here just to tell you that I'm proud of you, I'm impressed by you, I admire you, I think you're amazing," Chase said. "Most of all, I want you to know I'm not mad at you."
Talk about maturity and making things right! Now if only all exes could end on such a good note then we wouldn't have to subtweet and stalk each other's Instagram accounts.
