Wait, What?! It Turns Out There Are Actually 2 Harry Potters - Yes, Really
Despite the fact that our favorite magical book series printed its last copies way back in 2007, J.K. Rowling has been quenching our undying thirst for all things Harry Potter by releasing interesting tidbits about the series on Pottermore. In one of her most recent posts, the author delved into Harry's family history to reveal a detail we never saw coming.
It turns out the Harry Potter we know and love - the round-glasses-wearing, Gryffindor-joining, forehead-scar-having wizard - actually isn't the only Harry Potter in his family tree. GASP. Yes, our minds have officially been blown, too, fellow Potterheads.
According to Rowling, Harry's great-grandfather was named Henry Potter, but his closest pals called him Harry (which is an interesting nickname choice, but I digress . . .). It looks like the OG Harry Potter had a lot in common with his more famous great-grandson; back in the day, he "caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned then Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War," Rowling explained. This unabashed defense of the Muggle community is one of the main reasons the Potter family was denied acceptance into the Sacred Twenty-Eight - that super exclusive group of "truly pure-blood" British families.
So that's where Harry gets his knack for standing up to the bad guys and defending the powerless - it runs in the family!
