Donald Trump Jr. Wants People to Actually Believe He Had No Idea What His Meeting With a Russian Lawyer Meant

The ongoing saga over whether or not President Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 election now has a new character: Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. In a report from The New York Times, it was revealed that Trump Jr. agreed to meet with a Russian lawyer to receive information about Hillary Clinton - along with Trump-in-law Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Trump Jr.'s defense of the meeting boiled down to two things: he had no idea who he was meeting with nor what they were meeting about. Like several other people in America, Stephen Colbert called bullsh*t and took time to take down Trump Jr. on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

In the segment, Colbert snarks and snipes at the idea that Trump Jr. had absolutely no idea what he was meeting about. "We're supposed to believe that during the height of the presidential campaign, on the advice of a guy he met at the Miss Universe pageant, Don Jr. said, 'Hey Jared, Paul. I know you guys are a little busy right now, but I need you to come to a meeting.'" Colbert then pretended to be Kushner and Manafort. "'With who?' 'I don't know.' 'About what?' 'I'm not telling you.' 'OK, we're in.'" Colbert goes to explain how Trump Jr.'s subsequent excuses for the meeting are ridiculous. "The excuse is 'I tried to collude but I didn't get anything.' That's like saying, 'Yes, your honor, I broke into the house but there was nothing worth stealing so if you think about it, they were robbing me.'"

Though a new report by The New York Times reveals that Trump Jr. definitely understood that the meeting was about receiving information about Clinton, the clip is still hilarious to watch. Check it out above, and stay tuned for how this email scandal continues to play out.
