Get Yourself to NYC, Because It's the Only Place You Can Try Chipotle's Queso
If you're in New York City, you're in luck, because as of this week, Chipotle's new test restaurant, Next Kitchen, will finally have queso dip. Called Genuine Queso, this cheesy deliciousness is something Chipotle customers have been asking for relentlessly for years. The chain restaurant is just one step closer to having it in all its stores, because it's being tested right now in New York.
We're hopeful that the Genuine Queso makes its way to all the Chipotle menus at some point because after trying it for ourselves, we can confirm it's so damn good. Served warm with chips, the dip is a sharp, spicy cheese that melts in your mouth. The cheese tastes like a supersharp cheddar with your run-of-the-mill chili-like flavors, like some peppers and spice. And it's so creamy! It's really rich, though, so watch how much you eat!
The reasoning behind Chipotle not having queso on menus yet all goes back to the chain's refusal to use additives and preservatives. "Because we refuse to use industrial additives, added colors, flavors, or preservatives in our food, it's very difficult to make queso that meets our standards," Chipotle CEO Steve Ells reportedly said in an internal memo sent to the company's employees today, according to Eater.
The Next Kitchen, on Sixth Avenue at 13th Street, is Chipotle's newest innovation where it can test menu items to see if they should be widely released. In addition to Genuine Queso, the restaurant is testing two flavors of frozen margaritas (a standard margarita and virgin strawberry margarita), a new salad mix, a new avocado-citrus vinaigrette, and a chipotle pepper chocolate dipping sauce for the buñuelos dessert. If the menu items do well in the testing phase, they just might make it to a Chipotle near you. In the meantime, you'll have to venture to New York to try them.
