Melisandre and Daenerys Are Meeting Up on Game of Thrones . . . But How?
During the Game of Thrones preview that debuted at the show's Comic-Con panel, one particular moment stands out. In this snippet, the red priestess Melisandre stands before Daenerys Targaryen in the Dragonstone throne room, informing the dragon queen that she and "another" have a role to play, presumably in the "Great War" to come. We've previously predicted that this pair of powerful women would meet up in season seven, but so far the question has remained: how? But now that we've seen them interacting, we'd be willing to bet that their first interaction happens in one specific way.
Melisandre is no stranger to Dragonstone, the formidable island fortress where Daenerys has taken up residence upon arriving in Winterfell. As we learned in the season seven premiere, Dragonstone also sits atop a massive cache of dragonglass, a powerful obsidian substance that possesses magical qualities. So when Jon Snow banishes Melisandre from the North at the end of season six, it makes sense that she might head toward Dragonstone, where she's served as counsel to Stannis Baratheon in the past.
While on the road, perhaps the red witch hears rumors of Daenerys's arrival, or foresees it in the flames. We predict that, in Melisandre's quest to discover the long-prophesied Azor Ahai, she resolves to try her luck with the Targaryen leader. Because Hand of the Queen Tyrion Lannister is well aware of Melisandre's reputation in the War of the Five Kings, he is resistant when she requests an audience with Daenerys to plead her case. However, as someone who has witnessed the power of The Wall for himself, he might just change his tune once he hears Melisandre's story about the Night's King and the war to come.
In the trailer, we also hear Jon Snow discussing how he must meet with Daenerys about her stores of valuable dragonglass. A partnership between the two certainly seems to align with Melisandre's ominous quote from the trailer: "I believe you have a role to play, as does another." We'll have to wait and see how her meeting with the dragon queen unfolds, and whether Melisandre will be the one to bring Jon Snow and his - unbeknownst to everybody - aunt Daenerys together to fight the horrors beyond The Wall. We'll definitely be rooting for Dany to bring her dragons, their fire, and the resulting dragonglass to Winterfell's aide!
