So, Um, Consuming Sperm During Pregnancy Has Some Pretty Notable Health Benefits
We already know how crucial it is to consume the proper foods during pregnancy to show your bun in the oven some lovin', but our eyes have just been opened to quite the . . . er, surprising way to get nutrition: swallowing sperm. There are many hypotheses floating around (pun semi intended) that show how it certainly won't hurt and could actually help you sustain a healthy gestation, and we're beyond intrigued.
Back in 2011, Gad Saad, Ph.D. breached the subject for Psychology Today, explaining how semen can help women overcome preeclampsia, a pregnancy-related condition that causes high blood pressure and an increase in the amount of proteins in their urine. He went on to explain how a woman's risk for developing preeclampsia is affected by her exposure to her partner's genetic cells. So it's kind of like a flu shot in the sense that exposing oneself to the cause of the strange immunological reaction can potentially help build up a tolerance.
Although more complicated forms of cell transfer are an option (such as blood transfusions), many see swallowing sperm via some good ol' fashioned oral as a more convenient solution. (Don't worry - the Mayo Clinic says giving and receiving oral sex is A-OK during pregnancy.) This interesting hypothesis is just that: a hypothesis. So, as always, we suggest consulting your doctor for any pregnancy-health-related questions like these, but it's definitely something to keep in mind if you're looking to take part in some adult fun during gestation.
