Some Target Cartwheel Perks Users Just Got Sad News About the App

It's a sad day for fans of Target's Cartwheel Perks rewards pilot program. The company recently announced that the program, which was a test launched in September 2016 in Denver, Houston, San Diego, St. Louis, and Raleigh-Durham, NC, was "winding down."

Target told CNBC that "creating simple, convenient and fun digital tools for Target guests means listening carefully to guest feedback and regularly making adjustments based on what we hear," citing this as the reason this version of the pilot program is being phased out.

But don't worry! This specific perks pilot program is being phased out, but the Cartwheel app itself isn't going anywhere. In fact, the app is going to get improvements based on what Target learned from the pilot that rolled out in just five states.

Cartwheel Perks allowed users to collect points when they made purchases, and then the points could be redeemed for different Target items. Users can collect points toward perks until Aug. 27 and must redeem them by Sept. 27. Based on what Target has learned from the Cartwheel Perks pilot, the company is assuring shoppers that "exciting changes" will be coming soon to the Cartwheel and Target apps, so fans have something to look forward to, and - fingers crossed - the exciting changes will offer even more chances to save money and get special perks.
