This Is Exactly Why Toddlers Should Never Play on Indoor Trampolines

From birthday parties to beating bad weather, indoor trampoline parks can be an exciting activity for little kids. But until your child reaches a certain age, this fun activity can be incredibly dangerous.

After Kait Ellen's toddler was seriously injured bouncing on a trampoline, this mom is speaking out to warn parents about exactly why they need to keep their toddlers away from them. Kait explained on Facebook that 3-year-old Colton fell at an indoor bounce park while "innocently" jumping on a trampoline next to his parents. He managed to break his femur, which is the strongest bone in the human body.

"As hard as it is to relive the past 12 days, we feel compelled to make other parents aware of the danger associated with indoor trampoline parks," Kait wrote with a photo showing Colton's injury. "Come to find out, according to the America Academy of Pediatrics and the America Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 'children under the age of 6 should never use a trampoline.'"

Kait explained that this age warning is because a younger child's bones are still fragile and not meant to withstand the repetitive pressure from jumping. "We had no idea and were shocked to find this out from our pediatric orthopedic surgeon during Colton's hospital stay," Kait wrote. "Our lives have been turned upside down since Colton's accident and every day is a struggle for his sweet 3-year-old self as he adjusts to life in a hip spica cast for the next six weeks."

The concerned mom is hoping to spread awareness because she has seen indoor trampoline businesses promote bounce time targeted just to toddlers - despite this serious danger. "These facilities are specifically advertising for Toddler Time, when in fact toddlers should be nowhere near trampolines," she wrote. "We hope by sharing his story it will prevent a child and their family from experiencing the trauma and heartbreak associated with trampoline injuries in young children."
