Tina Fey Calls Out White Women Who Voted For Trump: "It's Going to Affect You Eventually"
Tina Fey didn't mince words when she was recently asked about the 2016 presidential election. While speaking at the American Civil Liberties Union's Stand for Rights benefit in New York City on March 31, the former Saturday Night Live cast member addressed the fact that 53 percent of white women who voted in the 2016 election voted for Donald Trump rather than Hillary Clinton.
"A lot of this election was turned by white, college-educated women who now would maybe like to forget about this election and go back to watching HGTV," she said. "I would want to urge them . . . 'You can't look away' because it doesn't affect you this minute, but it's going to affect you eventually."
"Right now it's not just about fighting for progress," Fey expressed earlier at the fundraising event. "Gains we've made over the last hundred years are under attack. Luckily, [Vice President] Mike Pence isn't allowed to go down and shut down Planned Parenthood unless his wife goes with him. So, you know, if we can just keep Karen busy scrapbooking, we can all still get Pap smears," she joked, alluding to The Washington Post's story that mentioned Mike Pence's hard rule of not eating dinner with any woman without his wife, Karen, present, and also not attending events where alcohol is served without Karen by his side.
The comedian called on those white women who voted for Trump to not ignore the realities of Trump's controversial policies. "Open two windows. Do watch HGTV, but [don't] turn our attention away from what is happening," she stated.
