You'll Melt Over How the Internet Helped a Boy With a Rare Medical Condition

Nine-year-old Cannon has never been able to join in on his family's annual hike to Rock Lake in Plumas National Forest. He was born with Mosaic Trisomy 14, an extremely rare chromosomal disorder that causes him to have very low muscle tone. As the medical condition makes it difficult for Cannon to walk long distances, the eight-mile hike is always out of the question, but that all changed when his cousin, Jill, stepped in to save the day and let the young boy get in on the family's adventure.

Cannon's mom, Amy Meiers, who recently shared the family's heartwarming story with journalist Frank Somerville, explained how Jill started a GoFundMe page in order to purchase a special backpack designed for carrying kids that weigh up to 80 pounds. Jill hit her goal of $335 and bought the backpack in time for the family's trip to the national forest.

On the day of the big hike, Jill trudged all eight miles with Cannon, who weighs 70 pounds, strapped to her back. "He loved it and I love her even more for wanted to get him up to Rock Lake to experience the beauty that he most likely wouldn't have ever been able to see," Amy explained to Somerville. "I'll never be able to thank her enough."

When Jillian shared a sweet video that documented their joint escapade, she wrote about just how significant the whole experience was to her. "On every hike I've ever done when I start to get tired or defeated I've told myself that I hike for the people that can't," she said. "Last weekend I got to take that idea one step further and actually carry someone on my back and literally hike for someone that couldn't. I've been lucky enough to do some pretty cool things this far in my life, but carrying a 70lb Cannon up to Rock Lake was a whole different level of amazing."

Is your heart a puddle of mush yet? Watch Jill's adorable video below and it most certainly will be.
