I've Always Hated Foundation, but This Tarte Formula Turned Me

I've never been a huge makeup wearer, but ironically, I'm a huge fan of makeup. I watch YouTuber after YouTuber apply a full face of makeup, only to skip over the stage where they apply arguably one of the most important parts: their base. Since I can remember, as long as I've worn makeup, I've never used foundation. I'm very sensitive about what I can feel on my skin, and for me, that means concealer, powder, and mascara is about as much as I can handle.
However, after using the Tarte Shape Tape concealer on and off for a few months (and loving it), I can't say I wasn't intrigued when I saw our POPSUGAR Beauty Director Lauren Levinson praising the formula of its new foundation companion, Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation ($39). I had a reason: over the last few months, whether I was using Shape Tape or Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, I found myself coating most of my face with concealer, trying to hide my dark circles, blemishes, and dry Winter skin.
Since I know enough about makeup to realize that I was using a ridiculous amount of concealer, I decided to try Tarte's new foundation in its hydrating formula (my skin is dry as f*ck), and after all these years of denying this step in my makeup routine, I'm here to admit to you all and myself that I've been an absolute idiot.
Foundation is the sh*t.
Upon the first application of the foundation in the shade Medium Sand, I quickly realized that I could make my entire face look uniform with a few swipes of my It Cosmetics foundation brush. Rather than slathering my face in concealer, I could use this lightweight formula to coat my entire face in a uniform shade and appear as though my skin tone was fully even. It was like freakin' magic (cue every other makeup wearer's eye roll at this very basic discovery).
Although I've hated using foundation for my entire makeup-wearing life, all it took was a few swipes of Shape Tape's large doe-foot applicator to realize just how silly I've been all these years.
