Trump Appoints Brad Parscale as His Campaign Manager For 2020 Election
President Donald Trump has already selected his campaign manager for the 2020 election, appointing Brad Parscale - a pivotal figure in his 2016 campaign - to the role. In a statement released on Feb. 27, Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner said Parscale, a "longtime digital marketing strategist for President Trump," was "essential in bringing a disciplined technology and data-driven approach to how the 2016 campaign was run." Parscale and the rest of the campaign team will not only start working on Trump's 2020 campaign, they will be helping other Republican candidates in the upcoming 2018 elections.
Before he was appointed campaign manager, Parscale ran the digital operations of Trump's 2016 election, which is now being investigated for possible collusion with Russia.
As part of his work for Trump's 2016 campaign, Parscale used social media targeting tools, which he's credited as instrumental in Trump's victory. "I understood very early Facebook was how Trump was going to win," Parscale told 60 minutes in 2017. "I think Donald Trump won, but I think that Facebook was the method - it was the highway in which his car drove on . . . I think we used it better than anyone ever had in history." In the same interview, he revealed that he and his team created 50,000 to 60,000 ads daily to reach Trump supporters and potential voters and collect online donations. Part of Parscale's method was using Facebook to publish "dark posts," an unpublished Page post ad that allows you to "take advantage of all Facebook's targeting options," according to Facebook's business page.
Parscale's digital-first approach is what proved to be one of Trump's biggest assets. Now that he's appointed the 42-year-old as his campaign manager, both supporters and opponents are certain to keep a close eye on what tactics they use to try and secure the White House for a second term.
