We All Know Captain Marvel Is Awesome, but Do You Know How She Got So Super?

Warning: Spoilers for Captain Marvel comics ahead!
We are finally getting into the thick of Captain Marvel mania and there is so much to cover. Marvel fans have been more than ready for the hero to make her appearance since the Avengers: Infinity War postcredits scene hinted that she would be playing a pivotal role in the next Avengers film.
One of the biggest theories on how the Avengers will defeat Thanos - and right the universe after his destructive snap - is that Captain Marvel will combine her cosmic powers with Scott Lang's knowledge of the Quantum Realm to save the world. While it's amazing to think that there's a superhero who can help accomplish what all the Avengers we know and love couldn't, it begs the question: what are Carol Danvers's powers and how did she get them?
In the comics, Carol starts off as a NASA security officer who was formerly an Air Force pilot and intelligence agent. She starts investigating various attempts by the Kree and Skrulls (two different alien races battling for control over the Earth) to disrupt America's space program. During her investigations, she becomes entangled in a battle between the original Captain Marvel, aka Mar-Vell (played by Jude Law in the film), and his rival. The battle causes a Kree device known as the Psyche-Magnitron to explode, with Carol caught in said explosion. According to her Marvel bio, Carol subconsciously envied Mar-Vell's powers and the Psyche-Magnitron answered those desires by rewriting her DNA to make her similar to him. Infused with Kree physiology that makes her a human-Kree hybrid, Carol gained numerous abilities that allow her to level-up in badass.
Carol's new powers include flight, enhanced strength, durability, and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts (which we see a bit of in the movie trailer). We're not 100 percent positive on what the movie will incorporate from Carol's comic book adventures, but there's a good chance she'll gain her powers in a similar way. From what we've seen in the photos from the film, she does meet Mar-Vell at some point, and already possesses her abilities when we meet her. Since we know that Captain Marvel won't be exploring Carol's origin in a traditional way, we can only assume that the way she gains her powers will be told through flashbacks or at least alluded to, like in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Either way, we're incredibly excited to see her story unfold when Captain Marvel premieres on March 8, 2019.
