A Chick-fil-A Opened on a Rare Sunday to Make a Boy With Special Needs' Dreams Come True

Although Chick-fil-A is normally closed on Sundays, one location in Mobile, AL, made an exception for 14-year-old Elijah Sprague, a local teen with autism and cerebral palsy who wanted to celebrate his birthday at the chain restaurant. Luckily for Elijah, his family was able to make a few calls so he could live out his dream of working in the drive-through.
"My brother, [Elijah's] uncle, is one of the managers at the local Chick-fil-A," Elijah's sister Rene Sprague told CBS News. "He was like, 'Why are you evening asking? Absolutely, we have to do it.'"
Once Elijah got the green light, the staff got to work, making cookies for him to hand out to friends and family. When all was said and done, 40 friends swung by to get food from Elijah, and some people even went through twice. After Elijah finished up in the drive-through window, he had the chance to have cake and play in Chick-fil-A with his friends.
For Elijah, who was adopted at 6 months old, marking his 14th birthday was truly a special occasion, especially because doctors said he wouldn't live past a year.
"He knew every single person who came through," said Renee. "He was chucking cookies out the window. He thought it was hilarious, and he was talking to everybody. This is superspecial to us. Elijah's not going to graduate like our other kids. He's not going to get married or have kids. So this is just a really cool experience to us for him to have this level of attention . . . it's neat for people to recognize he's a really cool kid."
