Ray Romano and Mark Duplass Form an Unlikely Friendship in Netflix's Paddleton
In between all the big-budget sci-fi thrillers on Netflix's roster, like Bird Box and IO, is Mark Duplass's quiet Sundance drama about two misfit neighbors who end up forming an unlikely, but nevertheless heartwarming, bond.
The film, Paddleton, sees Ray Romano and writer-director Mark Duplass playing said neighbors, who find themselves leaning on each other when the younger of the two, Michael (Duplass), is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Because of the brutal chemo process, Michael decides he's going to end things on his own terms, enlisting the help of his best friend, played by Romano, to join him on a road trip to procure medication that will . . . well, you know.
Mixed into the conversations about life, death, and everything in between is plenty of footage of the pair playing a game called "paddleton," which apparently involves tennis rackets, a giant trash can, and a big wall (kind of like racquetball, I guess? Only not). There's also a stop at an ostrich farm, hot tub antics, and talk of making pizzas, if you're into that sort of thing.
Watch the trailer above before Paddleton launches globally on Netflix on Feb. 22.
