Strengthen Your Body From Head to Toe With These High-Intensity Running Workouts
The following post was originally featured on Carrots 'n' Cake and written by Tina Haupert, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Fitness.
I have not ONE but TWO high-intensity running workouts that will challenge your entire body from head to toe. Try one today or this weekend and then put the other one on your calendar for next week. They're both awesome workouts!
As you probably remember, I love high-intensity running workouts that include a variety of strength movements. They keep both my mind and body engaged and they are a whole lot of fun. I swear, the time just flies by!
The workout above starts with a 200 meter run followed by 15 Squat Jumps and a 60-second side plank hold. After that, you'll run 400 meters followed by 20 Push-Ups and a plank hold on the other side. Then, the running distance will increase to 800 meters followed by 25 Burpees (you love me!) and another side plank hold. You'll continue to work your way back down the ladder of exercises and finish with 15 Squat Jumps. For even more of a challenge, repeat the workout from the top for two full rounds. Happy sweating!

The 1 Thing I Do That Makes Getting Dressed Each Morning Ridiculously Easy
Up until a few months ago, I would stand in front of my closet every morning trying on outfit after outfit. By the time I finally found a shirt I was satisfied with, my bed would be littered with clothing and hangers. By the end of that week? Well, you couldn't even tell I had a bed - it was that bad. I would then spend the weekend rehanging all my clothes, only to go back to the same disastrous cycle Monday morning.
All this changed, however, when I was browsing through a blogger's Snapchat story and spotted something that would make my life a lot easier: a clothing rack, which, according to the blogger, held a few key pieces she wanted to wear that week - a reminder, if you will. I thought the idea was genius. Was this the solution to not only dress better, but get ready quickly, too? After a trip to my nearest Ikea, I picked up a black $10 clothing rack and dragged it home. The installation was super easy and I stationed the rack so it faced the foot of my bed.
Every weekend, I spend 30 minutes or less filling the rack with pieces from my closet I want to wear that week. By only having these options to choose from come Monday morning, I've found that not only has my dressing time been cut down, but I also look better. Instead of rushing every morning to throw something cute together, I have extra time Saturday or Sunday to think about what I want to wear and what options work together. Seeing these items on the rack, within my line of vision, also makes me excited to wear them. Who knew a rack would be this useful?
This simple change also made me realize which items I constantly reach for and reminded me of the clothes I had forgotten about. Bonus points: my bed has remained clothing-free. In case you need further validation that the rack idea actually works, Kylie Jenner also shared that she, too, has one for style inspiration. "I always hang in my room what I'm into for the week," she wrote on Snapchat.
If you're struggling with what to wear in the mornings, I recommend investing in a rack. It seems silly, but once you have one it will change your life - or, at the very least, your style.

Why I Ditched the Baby Monitor - and So Should You
When my baby was first born, I started out with not one but two baby monitors. The first was a traditional audio monitor, and the other was a fancy video device that synced with our iPhones. As someone who is always "connected" (hi, I'm the mom who texted during labor - nice to meet you), why wouldn't I want the same level of attachment with my newborn baby?
The only thing - it took less than a month to viscerally hate them both. Here's why.
You know what's a good baby monitor? A baby.
Sure, this might not apply to those families in big houses where there can be plenty of square footage between you and the nursery room, but for this apartment-dweller, having a baby monitor was not just useless, it was synonymous with crappy surround sound. I didn't, it turns out, need to use a speaker system to amplify the combination of static with my child's wails on a 1.5-second delay.
Not all noises are created equal.
Babies are loud. In addition to crying, the most stereotypical of annoying baby sounds, they also do the following: snore, sneeze, cough, wheeze, hiccup, yawn, grumble, gurgle, grunt, sigh, squeak, snort, inhale, and, of course, exhale. (Yes, their very act of breathing in and out is audible.) Being awoken in the middle of the night by every single one of my newbie's 37 sneezes, as adorable as they are, is not ideal.
Babies make for insanely addictive (yet incredibly boring) reality TV.
You put your baby to sleep and slink out of the room. You breathe a sigh of relief (one that, for the record, is patently quieter than anything that baby's done all day) and plop down on the couch. If the next thing you do is grab your phone to scroll your Facebook feed, scarf potato chips by the handful, or zone out to some terrible Lifetime original movie, you pass. Congrats!
If, however, you pull out that damn video monitor and stare at your baby's every move - of which (news flash!) there aren't many - you've truly failed.
You spend so much of your time with your baby that you really should not be spending time when you aren't with your baby with your baby. (Go ahead, read that sentence again until it begins to make sense.)
No sane person wants to spend their free time "troubleshooting."
The modern-day take on Murphy's law? The more expensive the gadget, the more likely it is to break. I can't tell you how many sleep-deprived, passive-aggressive arguments my husband and I got into trying to figure out why our WiFi connectivity was weak, why our login wasn't working, why the camera was frozen. . . . As new parents, the only troubleshooting you should be doing involves dirty diapers.
It will always, always turn on you eventually.
One week, we had family in town. Not to say they overstayed their welcome, but my husband and I would need to help each other with "that one thing" in the nursery room, which was well-orchestrated code for huddling together on the floor and whisper-complaining about how so-and-so said this and how you-know-who did that. Then, all of a sudden, the faint green light of the baby monitor station, just a few feet away from us, caught my eye. It was transmitting to the receiver, which was smack dab in the middle of our living room.
We'd just been made.
Who can say if they were listening? It made no difference because, let me tell you, having to walk into your own living room and collectively pretend no one said or heard anything amiss is not how anyone should spend one minute of their already stressful maternity leave.
You will even use it for evil.
For reasons I am certain were valid at the time, I was convinced my husband wasn't wiping our baby girl correctly. "It's imperative you only go front to back," I'd remind him pre-diaper change. In lieu of having faith in my life partner, I opted to fire up the video monitor and used my distant background in investigative journalism to uncover the cold, hard truth that . . . oh, would you look at the time? I am going to be late for that thing!
So, in one of my surest parenting decisions yet, I turned off both monitors for good. (And, you know, started to trust my husband.)
There are certainly times, however, when I do consider plugging them back in.
One night, I heard my now-toddler coughing. It only lasted for a second, but it sounded slightly different than other coughs she's made. Something wasn't quite right, but I thought better of going in and possibly waking her up for no reason. An hour later, it happened again. I trusted my gut and went into her room. There, on the crib mattress were two small piles of vomit - one a little more dried up than the other.
In my grief over being a terrible mother, I hypothesized that if we'd still had the video monitor, I would have been able to act faster - but, as I try to remind myself, the monitor wouldn't have made her not puke all over her sheets. And if we're going to point fingers, it's really the puke we should be pointing at.
Another cause for second thoughts?
Based on what YouTube has proven time and again to be true, toddlers are hilarious. Thanks to many a viral baby monitor recording, parents have captured their children doing some pretty memorable stuff when they are supposed to be in their beds napping.
I'll never be able to watch my kid attempt a headstand while singing show tunes to her stuffed monkey, which - based on noise alone - is my best-educated guess for what's happening in there. Without a monitor mounted on the wall, I'll never know what she's really up to when no one else is looking.
But maybe it's better that way.

From Weight Loss to Better Digestion, There's Not Much Golden Milk Can't Do
The latest buzzworthy trend in healthy drinks has to be golden milk. Despite its surge in popularity, Haldi Doodh (translation: turmeric milk) has been used as a medicinal drink in India for centuries. Simple to make, the basic recipe of milk, turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and pepper has much more going for it than just a pretty hue and creamy richness. It's made with ingredients that help with inflammation, bloating, and weight loss. If you're still not convinced to mix the elixir up, here are a few reasons to consider having it as a nightcap tonight.
- Better digestion: Think of golden milk as nature's Pepto-Bismol, except with a much prettier color! Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries because of its ability to help the body in major ways. One such benefit? Better digestion. Multiple studies have shown turmeric to help fight gas, bloat, and indigestion. Germany has even gone so far as recommending turmeric as a safe herbal treatment for digestive woes. Ginger, another common ingredient in golden milk, is great at fighting nausea and soothing stomachaches.
- Happier muscles: If a glass of warm turmeric milk doesn't sounds appealing to you, try it iced, or even better - use it as the base for a post-workout smoothie. As a natural anti-inflammatory, turmeric can relieve joint and muscle pain and even help with headaches. In some studies, turmeric offered similar relief to ibuprofen. It also may be the perfect drink to have after an intense gym session; in a small 2015 study, turmeric helped in combating delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and ginger has also shown to be effective in preventing muscle soreness - less pain, more gain!
- A shield against colds and flu: Besides helping soothe a sore throat, ginger has long been used as a cold remedy in naturopathy, and for good reason. The spicy root has antimicrobial properties that help protect the body from respiratory infections.
- Weight-loss support: While more research has to be done in this area, turmeric does show some promise when it comes to encouraging weight loss. In two separate studies, the spice was shown to reduce the growth of fat cells in mice and also increase metabolism.
- A boost in good cholesterol: The raw coconut oil often used in golden milk has been shown to help raise good cholesterol in the body. It's even been shown to combat tooth decay!
While we always recommend trying golden milk warm, you can also enjoy it iced, blended up in a smoothie, or even as the base for a bowl of overnight oats.

The Reason You Shouldn't Necessarily Trust Your Eyebrow Esthetician
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Maria del Rio
My mom, Sania Vucetaj, has been doing brows since long before it became the "cool" thing to do. As a result, I have been hyper sensitive to all things brows my entire life. While the girls in middle school were off getting their brows waxed in half, my mom made sure my thick brows remained intact (and I thank her every day for that). She started her career at Bergdorf Goodman before opening her studio, Sania's Brow Bar, over a decade ago. Her signature style for the past 25+ years has been full, bold brows and she has built a very strong following that includes celebrities, models, high execs, and beauty-industry leaders.
My mom dreamed of expanding her brand into a family business for a while. When the opportunity finally arose for her to take over her entire floor of her building, my sister Suzy, cousin Bona, and myself were ecstatic to join her establishment and expand the brand. We have been working on friends and family member's brows for a few years now but never professionally. And last year, after taking a business trip to LA with her for the Emmy gift lounge, we were more excited than ever at the thought of joining the SBB team.
Our method for brow shaping is strictly tweezing because it's the most precise way and best for the skin. Since a New York state license for tweezing does not exist, Bona, Suzy, and I enrolled in an aesthetics course to obtain a waxing license for hair removal. This course required 75 hours, which meant we had class several nights a week for approximately three months. We enrolled in one of the most esteemed aesthetics schools in NYC (which basically means the world). Our instructor was extremely sweet and very knowledgeable when it came to body waxing. But when it came to brows, our course was lacking - big time.
Lucky for us, we had a head start since we were raised in the brow world. Our expectation going in was to learn some new brow trends and techniques - and most importantly, gain more experience practicing on models. Given the latest brow boom, we wanted to see how the curriculum changed in the last 15+ years since Sania took the same course. And the sad (and scary) truth was that nothing at all has changed.
During my first week, I learned that almost all of the girls in my class were there strictly so that they could become brow specialists. Brows have become such a booming business in the last few years and it seems everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. But I was actually shocked to learn that almost all of them had never even shaped a brow before and did not have any basic brow knowledge. You should at least know where brows should start and end!
During the course of the class, we learned how to wax arms, legs, and underarms. There was no discussion of brows minus the short few paragraphs in our textbook that describe how to wax them. It provided all of the wrong tips, such as the brows' center should align with the nostrils - which is very, very wrong. (FYI: they should align with the inner bridge of the nose.) The only brow demo we received in all of those three months was when the teacher laid a student down on a table and waxed off her brows while standing behind her. How can you visualize the arches you are shaping if you're not looking at them face on? And not to mention, waxing stretches this delicate skin!
At the end of the course, one of the girls expressed her frustration that she was to begin working in a luxury Brooklyn salon with the title of "brow specialist," but was scared to admit to her new boss that she had not in fact ever shaped a single brow. And another girl told us that she was sent to get a license so that she could be a brow specialist for a top beauty brand - and she also had never practiced brows. Yet, here they were, about to go off into the world to shape (or, more likely, ruin) brows of unsuspecting clients. The companies most likely assumed that they would be experts by the end of the course, which was obviously not the case.
I must say that I cannot blame our school for the lack of brow training out there. They are merely working with the curriculum issued to them by the state. They cannot be expected to teach brows when they have never been trained themselves. Essentially, this license is not indicative of any brow training or brow knowledge. We "graduated" from this academy with the same exact brow knowledge and experience that we had entered with.
Prior to letting us even think about working on our first paying customer, Sania had us do extensive training for months on models until she felt we were up to par. She taught us her tweezing method and tricks by bringing in models (female and male) with all different types of brows. She demonstrated as we watched. And then she observed and critiqued us as we worked on arches. She taught us all her secret tips and tricks that she has learned over the years. There were definitely tears shed along the way but she made sure that we were truly prepared before letting us hang up that license - and use her name.
Many people ask what method is best when it comes to brows, and our stance is that it's more important to know who is behind the work than the method used. The truth is that a license means nothing when it comes to brows - we know firsthand from our experience. I am fortunate enough that my mom is one of the leading pioneers in the brow industry, so I've always understood the importance of good brows - but it's scary to think that this is not the case for most of the brow experts out there.
For those looking to have their brows shaped and groomed, our advice would be to really do your research. Read online reviews, find out what method they use, ask questions if necessary, or set up a consultation first. Lastly, let us not forget that hygiene and safety are essential. We make sure that we sterilize every single tweezer we use. You should always stay alert to this. Threaders hold the thread in their mouths, which is unhygienic and has led to facial warts for some people. And putting scalding hot wax near your eyes does not sound safe.
Sania could have expanded years ago but she held back until now, because she wanted to ensure she had a team that cared as much as she does about her clients and brows. Bottom line: be protective of your brows, always.

From her judgmental looks to her religious zeal and all her lovable quirks, Alba's familiar nature is one of the many reasons we can't stop watching the show. Read on for further proof (in GIF form) that she's basically your abuela, too, and then find out what we know about season three.
6 Minutes and 6 Moves Is All You Need For Gorgeous, Toned Arms
Whether you're waiting for the coffee to brew, catching a few TV commercials, or have a couple minutes before bed, you can squeeze in this six-minute workout! You'll notice a difference in your strength and in the look of your arms by doing this workout regularly. Grab a set of dumbbells (three- to six-pounders) and repeat this six-exercise, three-minute circuit twice through.
Is Stranger Things Coming Back From Season 2? Here's What We Know
Those who have already zipped through Stranger Things may be wondering if Netflix will bring it back for a second season. As of right now, Netflix has not officially picked up the series for another season, but maybe if we clamor loudly enough, that will change. In an interview with IGN, creator Matt Duffer (half of The Duffer Brothers mentioned in every opening credits sequence) gave a hint about what would come on a second season:
We wanted to do a couple things with this [first] season. We didn't want to do The Killing thing. We wanted it to resolve that main thing of Will going missing in the first season. So in that sense, it is like an eight-hour movie. Now, we don't answer all the questions by the end of the season - there are definitely some dangling threads. The hope is that it feels satisfying but that we left room and that if people respond to it we can go back into this world. But if we do get to go back, it's not a second season as much as a sequel.
A sequel, eh? Well let's all hope that gets greenlit soon!

I feel into a deep dark hole over the weekend. Its name? Stranger Things. There's a lot to love about Netflix's creepy new series, but I could not get enough of Steve. Ronda Rousey Stuns Us in Her #PerfectNever Reebok Campaign
Powerhouse Ronda Rousey knows a thing or two about striving for perfection; Ronda's once-undefeated UFC record in 2015 came to a devastating end with a shocking knockout last November. She opened up to Ellen DeGeneres earlier this year about how much that affected her, showing fans everywhere her vulnerable side. And now, she's owning her imperfections in all forms as part of the #PerfectNever/#BeMoreHuman campaign with Reebok.
In terms of having "the perfect body," Ronda has been silencing body-shamers for a long time and once referred to her build as "femininely badass af." She's more relatable than ever in this clip as she strips off false eyelashes and pulls out hair extensions from what appears to be a glamorous photo shoot while walking toward the gym floor.
"Here's the thing about being perfect," alluding to her athletic past, wiping off lipstick to wrap her hands. "Perfect never gets a shot at redemption."

10 Artists Just Gave Your Favorite Disney Characters an Unexpected Makeover
We know we're not the first to imagine a world where Disney characters were played by the opposite gender. (Think of how beautiful a female Aladdin would be!) Illustrators have drawn out what this alternate universe would look like, but makeup artists on Instagram have taken this concept one step further by bringing it to life.
The Disney Gender Bend collaboration consists of the work of 10 talented artists. Your favorite characters, such as Peter Pan and Cruella Deville, were transformed into their opposite gender (Penny Pan and Cruello Deville, respectively). The way each one was reimagined is nothing short of spectacular. For example, makeup artist Aaron Brousseau challenged himself to morph into a female Scar. He incorporated his own facial hair into the look for a truly majestic mane. Read on to see the magical makeup looks - and don't be surprised if you're inspired to switch things up this Halloween.
25 Midnight-Blue Hair Ideas That Will Inspire Your Next Moody Look
Pastel hair hues are stunning, but we're far more fascinated by the moodier takes on colorful coifs. Emerald dye captured our hearts. Smoky lilac styles mesmerized us. And now, midnight-blue manes are inspiring us to take the plunge into rainbow hair. Depending on how a colorist translates the look into your strands, your strands can appear like anything from a stormy sea to a starry night sky.
The beauty of this color trend is that you can customize it to perfectly flatter your skin tone, though the more black that is in the mix, the more complementary it is to all complexions. Cool-skinned gals might want to add a bit more blue-based purple for a sultry indigo shade, while those with warmer complexions could add a bit of yellow-based green to suit their olive undertones. Learn more about your undertone here, then read on to see our favorite takes on midnight-blue hair.

This 1-Year Fitness Transformation Is SO Real and Inspiring
Abe Nelson set out last July to start working out and feeling better. In his video posted to Reddit, he said, "I've transformed physically a little bit but mentally a whole bunch."
His honest and open (and funny!) account of every part of his fitness journey in the past year is inspiring - and attainable. He noted that his journey was tough and didn't come without challenges but that his results are "pretty realistic."
And his motivation was rooted in feeling good. "Exercise is all about feeling great," he said. He started with basic exercises like push-ups and pull-ups and eventually started going to the gym and did bodyweight workouts with added weights. "It made me feel great, so I kept doing it."
One of his keys to success: Abe started with small, quantifiable goals. Things like "five clean muscle-ups" or "three pull-ups" helped him get to his overarching goal of gaining weight and muscle, feeling good, and getting strong.
Having a naturally lean form, Abe said, "I wanted to see if I could actually gain weight." Starting at 150 pounds, he called himself "skin and bone." By changing his diet and eating "4,000 to 5,000 calories every single day" for six months, Abe gained 35 pounds. "It showed that anything is possible," he said.
Abe's story is so moving - especially because of how he started. "When I started working out, I could barely do three pull-ups. . . . I could not pull myself up. It was the worst feeling ever," he said in the video. "Now I can do 20 to 25."
Now weighing 167 pounds with 12 percent body fat, Abe said, "I feel really happy with what I accomplished in this one year."
He called that time an awesome journey of "learning, failing, trying again, failing" and attributes much of his success to being consistent and "sticking with it."
7 Gel Manicure Mistakes That Are Ruining Your Nails
There are many reasons I love a gel manicure, but a few in particular stand out. I'm obsessed that they require zero drying time, which equates to zero probability of smudging. They last for at least two weeks. That enduring glossy finish gets me to book salon visits over and over again. But when it comes time to take off the lacquer, I admittedly get a little lazy. When choosing between squeezing a removal appointment into a busy schedule or picking and peeling on my way home from work, I'm often guilty of the latter.
It turns out that's not the only error I've been making when it comes to gel polish. Chances are, you - and your favorite salon! - are making some of them, too. That's precisely why I enlisted the help of celebrity manicurist Elle. The nail tech (who has painted the talons of Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively) revealed that seemingly simple things can cause your gels and natural nails to prematurely crack and peel. But when applied and cared for correctly, these glossy lacquers aren't harmful to your claws at all. Read on to discover her top nail-saving tips.

What to Do All Day Long to Lose Weight Fast
Losing weight isn't about doing one good thing like going for a run or throwing kale in your smoothie - it's made up of a million healthy choices that you make all day long, every day. Don't view this as a burden; view it as a fun challenge! Every hour is an opportunity to do something that can bring you closer to your weight goal. So tomorrow, when you wake up, here's your around-the-clock guide to feeling slimmer by bedtime.

6 a.m. - Wake up, and sip a big glass of water. It'll fill you up and get things moving to prevent belly bloat. Eat a small snack that offers quick carbs and a little protein such as half a banana and a few almonds - eating first thing jump-starts the metabolism. Now go work out! Morning exercisers tend to work out longer and more intensely than those who sweat it out during other times of the day. Plus, it'll keep the fire lit under your metabolism, so you burn more calories throughout the day.
7 a.m. - Do some stretches in the shower. Eat a filling breakfast that includes protein and fiber - at least 10 grams of each. Don't be afraid to fill up on healthy carbs, because enjoying them in the beginning of the day ensures you'll have time to burn them off.
8 a.m. - Make your lunch for later. These lunch-packing tips will help you lose weight.
9 a.m. - Fill your reusable water bottle once you arrive at work. Sip on it throughout the morning, since staying hydrated will prevent hunger pangs.
10 a.m. - Take a break from work to snack on some belly-filling fiber. Keep it under 150 calories like these snacks.
11 a.m. - Take a few minutes to fill in your food and fitness journal, writing down what you've eaten and how much you've exercised. It'll give you an idea of how many calories you're allowed the rest of the day, and seeing your stats from the previous weeks will motivate you to stay on the healthy path.
12 p.m. - Get moving by going for a walk with a co-worker, bike ride to run an errand, or grab that set of dumbbells under your desk and do these strength-training moves.

1 p.m. - Eat a healthy lunch that you packed from home that includes low-fat protein, fiber, fresh veggies, whole grains, and fruit for dessert. Enjoy it with nature's calorie-free beverage.
2 p.m. - Take that afternoon meeting for a walk. Whether you're on the phone or meeting in person, walking and talking can help you think more clearly while burning some calories.
3 p.m. - Have a 150-calorie snack to keep energy levels going till dinner. This could include a little something sweet like these 150-calorie desserts since indulging a little can prevent overeating later.
4 p.m. - Sip some green tea. The caffeine will give you a little pep, and green tea has been shown to suppress your appetite and increase your metabolism.
5 p.m. - Walk or bike home from work. Not only will it burn some calories, but it can also relieve work stress, which can trigger overeating.
6 p.m. - Make a low-cal dinner filled with veggies, low-fat protein, and whole grains. Here are some vegetarian options under 300 calories. After dinner is made, put away leftovers before sitting down to eat to prevent going back for unnecessary seconds.
7 p.m. - Brush your teeth while doing this two-minute butt-and-leg workout. It'll tone your tush, and that minty breath will prevent mindless late-night snacking.
