Is Patti LaBelle's New Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Worth the Hype?

Patti LaBelle's famous sweet potato pie has been known to cause spontaneous singing, so when we learned about Patti's new Sweet Potato Pecan Pie, we had seriously high hopes. Available for a limited time this holiday season at Walmart, the 10-inch pie ($10) has everything you'd find in Patti's original dessert, plus a generous layer of chopped pecans sprinkled on top. Is it worth adding to your shopping cart instead of making your own?

Unsurprisingly, yes. With no artificial flavors or added colors, the premium pie tastes just like Grandma made it - if not better (unless Patti is your grandma). Perhaps the most appealing part of the pie is the convenience: the only time you have to spend prepping the pie is heating it in the oven for 10-20 minutes until it's warmed through. Unlike other premade pies, this one is found in the fresh bakery section of the store rather than the frozen aisle. It's packed with fresh sweet potatoes, real butter, spices, and crunchy pecans, and the crust is just as buttery as the one we fell in love with in Patti's apple cobbler. If baking homemade pie isn't your specialty and you'd rather focus your efforts on the holiday appetizers - fondue cheese wreath, anyone? - this is a store-bought pie you can feel good about serving.

This Harry Potter Theory About the Marauder's Map Makes SO Much Sense

One of the biggest Harry Potter plot holes - one that bugged me for years - is how Harry (and Fred and George) never noticed Peter Pettigrew (then posing as Scabbers the rat) on the Marauder's Map. I mean, the map shows literally everything that's going on at Hogwarts, and you'd think/hope that the holder would catch important little details like that a deceased man was sleeping in Ron Weasley's bed. The story of Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew's infamous standoff was well-known throughout the wizarding world, so it's unlikely that Fred and George wouldn't have recognized the name on the map and questioned it if they'd seen it. So why, when Ron arrived at Hogwarts with "Scabbers," and for the years following, did no one notice that someone who was supposed to be dead was actually roaming the corridors of the castle?

A theory on Tumblr makes complete sense, considering that the creators of the Marauder's Map were illegal Animagi. James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew wouldn't have wanted to show up on the map while on their numerous and highly dangerous adventures with Remus Lupin, so it's likely they used their remarkable magical skills to protect their identities. In doing so, they also blocked other Animagi from showing up on the map - but only when they were in animal form.

Since Pettigrew was obviously forced to stay in rat form throughout the duration of his time at Hogwarts with Ron, he wouldn't have showed up on the map when Fred, George, and later Harry, were using it. This also explains why Rita Skeeter was able to flit around the castle in beetle form digging up dirt on everyone she could without being found out on the Marauder's Map. Read the full theory and explanation ahead.

8 Nude Lipsticks That Kim Kardashian Actually Wears

Kim Kardashian has many signature aspects to her now-iconic look: her lush lashes, her chiseled cheekbones, and (of course) her plump posterior. But anyone hoping to re-create her beauty style would be remiss if they skipped her go-to nude lip. Practically 90 percent of the time, Kim eschews classic reds or vampier tones, instead opting to step out wearing a muted blush tone on her pucker.

Her long-time makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic recently took to the Kim Kardashian app to share his favorite shades. "Everyone knows I love a nude lip," he confessed. "It's been a signature of mine since I started doing makeup and the same goes for Kim! No one rocks a nude like her."

He added, "There is something very sexy and subtle about a nude lip but it has to be the right shade and texture." Dedivanovic explained that he usually mixes several shades together to achieve the right hue. "Kim used to call me the mix master," he joked.

In addition to three of Dedivanovic's top picks, we dug up five more. After all, if you're a big fan of Kim (and her makeup style) like we are, you'll likely want to purchase the exact same products that she's used on her pout! Read on to see eight colors she's actually worn IRL.

He did reveal one specific date though, his "#ANDROGYNY eye shadow palette" will be out in March. We can't wait to see what colors and textures he chose.

It's Official: Marc Anthony and Shannon de Lima Have Confirmed Their Split

Not even 24 hours after he and his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez locked lips on stage after an impassioned performance of their new single "Olvídame y Pega la Vuelta" at the 16th Latin Grammy Awards, E! News reported that Marc Anthony and his wife of two years, Shannon de Lima, were separating. Shannon was noticeably MIA at the Latin Grammys, where Marc was honored as Person of the Year.

Now the estranged couple, who started dating back in 2012, just five months after Marc's split with J Lo, have officially released a statement about their breakup news, saying:

"After much consideration, we have mutually and amicably decided to end our two-year marriage. We ask for privacy during this difficult process, and no further comments will be made from either one of us about this personal matter."

Sigh. We hope these two can still remain friends!

9 Creative Themes (and Gift Ideas!) to Get You Through All 8 Nights of Hanukkah

Some kids who celebrate Hanukkah feel like they are missing out on a mountain of gifts, but it's really their parents who have it hard - they have to come up with exciting surprises for not one day but eight. Every family has their own traditions, but some balance out the presents by saving a "big" gift for a particular night while distributing smaller and more economical treats throughout the remaining days. In order to make the anticipation last, parents have to get creative, which can be draining - especially when kiddos aren't appreciative of sock night or other low-key days. One way to make the excitement last throughout the extended week is by coming up with a theme for the celebration and choosing eight gifts around that activity or fandom. Some parents might plan to spend less or more over the course of the week, so we've provided a variety of prices that can get you started and will surely please every little one on your list.

What You Need to Know About Those Viral "Tree of Life" Breastfeeding Photos

In a new take on the breastfeeding selfie, moms can now transform a beautiful moment of nourishing their child into an equally stunning photo illustration. These unique "Tree of Life" images are going viral as moms across social media are uploading their favorite brelfies to the PicsArt photo editing app and creating these powerful photos in an array of artistic styles.

Many proud moms are using these #TreeofLife masterpieces as a fresh campaign to normalize breastfeeding while others are creating them as a way to show that bottle-feeding moments are just as precious. No matter the intention, these works highlight the beautiful bond between parent and child.

"What we love even more is how these women are editing photos not just for themselves, but as gifts for each other," PicsArt wrote online. "The spirit of collaboration and the celebration of life is definitely something PicsArt supports 100 percent."

This trend is quickly moving beyond breastfeeding into other aspects of a mom's life. "We've also started seeing women create other kinds of beautiful pregnancy art using the same method, overlaying images of babies in the womb over their bumps, as well as bottle-feeding mothers," Nell Frabotta, a PicsArt representative, told POPSUGAR. "We encourage and support all mothers whether they nurse or not to get creative and express themselves and their experiences."

Each finished image is just as unique as the family and can be created in minutes. Here's how to make your own PicsArt Tree of Life breastfeeding photo:

Louise Roe Put Her Bridesmaids in White - and She Doesn't Regret It at All

Louise Roe doesn't regret one style move from her wedding day. "It sounds cheesy, but everything was perfect, and there's a whole long list of people to thank for that!" she told us when we chatted at the Pandora table during the Billboard Women in Music Awards. One glimpse at her custom Atelier Pronovias gown, and it's easy to see why she was happy with the outcome. The high-neck silhouette (which took 800 hours to make), was created with fabric Louise first spotted at one of the fashion house's runway shows.

Louise's bridal look was lovely and classic, but her bridesmaids' outfits were completely unique. Louise asked her four best friends to choose white Self-Portrait dresses. (Yes, we said white.)

"I always had a really clear idea of how I wanted our wedding to look, and that included white or cream bridesmaid dresses. There's something so clean and chic about matching dresses, and texture was important to me too," she said.

But was she worried the shade would take away from her own gown? Nope. "I knew my dress was going to be very different," Louise told us. Read on for proof that Louise made the right choice for her bridesmaids - she tested out the designs herself! - and find out how Sex and the City played a part in the decision. Then, shop some of the exact Self-Portrait numbers if you like what you see.

The Internet Is Divided Over Whether This Baby Teeth Keepsake Box Is Creepy or Not

The internet is divided (as usual) over a keepsake box that is designed to hold all of a child's baby teeth, their umbilical cord stump, and a tuft of fine baby hair. Although many parents tape their baby's hair into the "First Haircut" page of the baby book and their child's teeth get saved to put under the pillow for the Tooth Fairy, this box is highly unusual and, honestly, a little much.

Shaped like the head of a young girl or boy, the wooden box ($4) was shared to the Spend With Pennies Facebook page as a "fun gift for new parents," and commenters have not held back on sharing their very mixed feelings.

"Not creepy at all, wish I had this when my son was little, I have all his baby teeth taped in a photo album, he's 34 and thought it was cool!"

"This screams creepy. If my mom pulled that out and gave this to me when I was older I would seriously have to think about what else she kept . . . a toenail box???"

"Umm am I weird or is this super creepy? Like lesson 101 on how to raise a serial killer creepy."

Sure, some moms would probably love this as a baby shower gift, but what most new parents really want is some sleep - maybe just offer to babysit instead.

10 Harry Potter Theories You Won't Be Able to Wrap Your Head Around

The last Harry Potter book came out nine years ago, but that hasn't stopped Potterheads from analyzing every aspect of the series. Plenty of theories surfaced this year like Draco Malfoy possibly being a werewolf, a plot twist in what the Deathly Hallows stands for, and heartwarming ideas about Neville Longbottom. Before you reread the series again, check out the favorite theories we read about this year - many of which have been around for ages.

When You See This Trend at Award Shows, Remember Christian Siriano Called It

If you've followed Christian Siriano's career, you know his designs aren't subtle. Feathered dresses frequently grace his runway, jumpsuits feature eye-catching prints, and his first-ever bridal collection? Of course it included a splash of pink. Even for his holiday window display - which can be seen at Hershey's Chocolate World in Times Square - Christian's creations are once again glam, as sketches of billowing dresses dance down the street.

Chatting with Christian about his new, festive gig, we couldn't help but ask about another big one on the horizon: award season. It's this time of year when his stuff steals the spotlight, so, naturally, we pressed him for any inside scoop.

"This season, stylists are requesting - for any actress that they [work with] - a lot of color and a lot of white," he said. "Nobody wants black. So, we'll see."

Color and white are two things Christian does exceptionally well - so much so, he even shared advice on how noncelebs can pull off vibrant hues.

"If you don't wear color, it's one of those things like, why not?" Christian asked. "What's holding you back? I think one of the biggest things in fashion is that you have to play and have fun. It should never be too serious."

So the next time you debate wearing color, just repeat Christian's two wise words: why not? For now, though, scroll through to see the Spring and Fall '17 we hope to see on the red carpet.

T-Rex Hands Is the Bizarre Selfie Pose You Didn't Even Notice

It feels like every day a new posing hack hits the web and convinces us to step up our selfie game. Thanks to the Kardashians, we've mastered the art of "duck lips." And recently, a variety of other bizarre, selfie-enhancing techniques including squinching and fish gaping have joined the famous expression.

Now there's yet another new pose taking over Instagram called "T-rex hands." Beauty maven Huda Kattan coined the term and shared that it's basically the (calculated but slightly random) placement of your hand anywhere on your face. Your fingers should have a subtle, relaxed curve to resemble the clutch of a Tyrannosaurus rex while still keeping it classy.

We perused Instagram for some snaps of our favorite celebrities flashing their T-rex hands- and it turns out, pretty much everyone is doing it. Read on for Huda's hilarious explanation of the technique, and practice with your own paws during your next selfie session. It's always a great way to show off your nail art!

Suzette Quintanilla and Chris Perez on Selena's Legacy and Their Best Memories With Her

It's been 21 years since Selena's passing, but her legacy remains alive thanks to her fans and the Quintanilla family. Her sister Suzette, brother A.B., husband Chris Perez, and parents Abraham and Marcella have done everything in their hands to honor the Tejano singer, running a museum at Selena's old studio in Corpus Christi, TX, hosting the Fiesta de la Flor, and, this year, launching a makeup line with MAC Cosmetics.

POPSUGAR Latina caught up with Suzette and Chris a day before the official collection launch at the American Bank Center in TX. They exclusively opened up about the process of creating the line (featuring eyeshadows and lipsticks named after Selena's biggest hits), their fondest memories with the star, and what it means to see a new generation of fans. Scroll ahead for the must-read quotes.

POPSUGAR: Tell us about how the line came about. Did it all start with the fan petition? Or did you always want to do a makeup collection for Selena?

Suzette Quintanilla: It's a little bit of both. When Selena passed away, she wanted to do a line, and was actually creating a line of makeup, so that had always been in the back of my head . . . to be able to, hopefully, do something like that in the future. But then, surprisingly, this petition was started by Patty Rodriguez . . . I believe it got 40,000 signatures in a month. I'm not too hip on what that petition page thing was and all that. It was around the time we were planning the Fiesta de la Flor for the first year. So I wasn't really on social media and didn't really know what was going on. When I realized what was going on, literally within the week, MAC Cosmetics reached out to us. It happened that quick. For the last year and a half, we've been working on what this line is, and I'm really happy with it.

PS: How did you choose the shades?

SQ: In regards to the shades, the color palette for the whole collection, when I was discussing it with MAC, they were asking what we felt it should be like. I said it shouldn't be about anything that I like, or what you guys want to push. I think since it's for Selena, it needs to be about Selena. I still have her makeup case, so I literally took pictures of everything in it and sent it to MAC. They came back to me with these matching colors, the colors she would wear on and off stage. This line is Selena.

"I still have her makeup case, so I literally took pictures of everything in it and sent it to MAC."

PS: How about the names? Why did you decide to name them after Selena y Los Dinos' most popular songs.

SQ: The names, that was me. It was kind of easy. The red [lipstick] is Como la Flor - it has to be, you know? And, of course, Dreaming of You. That's the darker tone, and I felt it was very sexy. [The name] went better with the darker tone lipstick. And, of course, Amor Prohibido is the lighter [beige] shade she would normally wear when she was offstage. She would run around, and she liked to wear nude lipstick. There was some clear gloss in her makeup case, too - this [the Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipgloss] - is the only thing that's not going to be sold in the store. It's going to be an online exclusive. When you put it on, it's going to be pink, but it has this clear, glittery vibe. This speaks volumes of what she would wear when she was running around and doing everyday stuff.

In regards to the names of the songs, I literally looked at them and said this looks like Missing My Baby and this right here is a no-brainer. I don't know if you know what the name of this one is, Chris - Is It the Beat, because it's black. It kind of goes with it. It was easy. It was a no-brainer.

PS: Is there a makeup trick Selena taught you, Suzette? Was there anything she always did while getting ready?

Chris Perez: They learned from each other. Both of them.

SQ: We kind of wore similar makeup back then. I don't know if there were any tricks. She clearly loved the bold lip, like most Latinas. If anything, she kept it simple with the bold lip, a little bit of eyeshadow, not too much, and, of course, the eyebrows - you can't forget the eyebrows. But in terms of a ritual, I don't know.

PS: Did she take a long time to get ready?

CP: I guess like with most women, you wanna be somewhere quickly, you'll get there quickly. I just remember many times, laying there and hearing her in the other room doing her thing. It depends on whether she was trying some new stuff out. She'd be in there for quite some time, like most girls did.

SQ: You have to also understand she was very young still, so she had flawless skin. Whenever she wasn't on stage, she just basically wore the nude-style lipstick, light foundation, mascara, and always had her hair pulled back. Jeans and a t-shirt.

PS: It's been 21 years since her passing. Is there a favorite memory you have with Selena that you always go back to? I always think of the Grammys, when she won.

SQ: For me there's a couple. You mentioned the Grammys. I remember walking in, with my husband. I came down to meet y'all in y'all's room, Chris. We opened the door and walked in, and she came out of the restroom. She had told me about the dress, but I hadn't seen her. We had gone earlier in the day to get our hair done. When she came out, I thought my sister was beautiful; she had this amazing vibe about her. It was kind of like one of those moments where you were like "Woah," it was one of those. Kind of like when she walked out, there was a beautiful light shining on her type of vibe. I literally got choked up. I was like "Oh my God, you look amazing." It was breathtaking. She was breathtakingly beautiful. You know when everything is just right. Her makeup, her hair, her outfit - she looked amazing. That's one moment.

Another memorable moment I always go back to, and I think I go back to this one more, is all the time that I spent in the bus with her. That was our most time spent together. We spent more time in the bus than we did at home. Late nights after the gigs, she would wipe off her makeup, she would eat something, and then she would come and crawl in our bunk and we would just talk. About her makeup line, her dreams, her being a mother, her being married to Chris - just about life, what families and what sisters normally do. That for me was my special moment.

"Late nights after the gigs, she would wipe off her makeup, she would eat something, and then she would come and crawl in our bunk and we would just talk."

PS: What about you, Chris?

CP: There's quite a few. As crazy as it sounds, it's probably the last time that I saw her. It was that big smile and her laugh. Being as it was the last time I saw her, in my mind, it's such a beautiful picture and memory of her. She opened the door, and my dad had come into town and she forgot. So they had opened the doors to the room at the same time, and she just saw this dude standing before her. She just screamed, and I jumped out of the bed, and then she turned and gave that laugh - the whole thing. I was like "Aah," and then got back in bed. Just little things like that. And, like Suzette said, being in the bus, there were so many moments. It was like our little cocoon, our little safe zone where there was a lot of family time.

PS: There's a new generation of Selena fans now. What do you want people to know about her that might not know.

SQ: For me, I feel that they know everything. That's why there is a new generation that has embraced her and is living her. She kept it real, on and offstage. She was not a different person. When she spoke to you she made you feel like she knew you. I think that transcended clearly on stage. She had the ability to be able to captivate you. I think that's why we are, even 21 years later, talking about this line. I think the younger generation, and the internet, they are able to click and research her and see her. I think that's why they know everything. They feel like they can identify with her. I think she is a role model and inspires people. Also, the fact that we had pretty cool music. It's a combination of things, and I think that it's very evident that the younger generation see that.

PS: This year seems to be such a big one for Selena's memory. You just revealed the wax figure; it was announced she's getting a Hollywood Walk of Fame star; she got inducted to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. What does it mean as a family to have all of this happening?

CP: I think I speak for all of us when I say she's part of our everyday life. We see things a little different, but we are appreciative of the support the fans continue to give her. It's always surprising. In typical Selena fashion, a project starts one way, it ends up being this huge thing because of the loyalty of her fans. They have her back. It's amazing still to this day.

SQ: It just so happens that a lot of great things fell into this year. And the vinyl . . . the Selena special edition vinyl. We're really excited about that. It comes out [Oct. 14 . . .] So many amazing things are happening; it just seems like something really cool is going on - like from one year to the next. This year definitely more so than the past years, and we are very very grateful for that.

PS: Selena was really a pioneer among Latinas, even now there are not many Latina role models out there, unfortunately. What does it mean to you that Latinas really embrace her and admire her?

CP: She's become an icon. Obviously, when everything first happened it took some time . . .

SQ: To understand the magnitude, I'm sure Chris feels the same way. To just get on the road and perform - we were just doing our thing. Doing our music, doing our thing.

CP: And we saw crowds get bigger, but . . .

SQ: It didn't really dawn on you. You were just doing your thing. Like OK, record sales are great, we're selling out, OK, cool this is what it's all about. But then when she passed away it was like, what Chris said, "Woah, wait a minute." The magnitude of the outpouring of love when she passed away was like "woah." It was overwhelming for us.

"The magnitude of the outpouring of love when she passed away was like, woah. It was overwhelming for us."

Even to this day, we are so surprised at the magnitude of her legacy, what it has now become. This is a clear staple [the makeup] - a perfect example of where her legacy is at. This is not a US thing; it's a global launch. It speaks volumes. We're beyond ecstatic. I think if she was here, this would still be happening, clearly, but you'd be talking to her. We'd be chilling out over there. I'm sure she would be really ecstatic about everything that is going on. She loved her fans, and we are very grateful that her fans still love her.

PS: You talked about just being on stage and doing your thing, but everyone was hypnotized by what was happening, the songs, the music, the performance. What was your favorite song to perform with Selena?

CP: It's a shocking thing because I'm more of the rocker, and you'd think I'd pick a certain song. I used to like playing the more cumbia songs. Where Ricky [Vela] would play the accordion, where I would have to say "Las Cadenas" and "Los Desprecios."

SQ: That is shocking.

CP: Yeah, I'll be there stomping my feet to that stuff and had to be like "Alright, calm down, calm down." I used to love playing those songs. Obviously I loved every song that we did. And I have to say, mainly because of her. She had - even then we all could hear it in her voice - God-given talent. She was amazing.

SQ: I'd have to say, I like that little attitude she used to give "Ya Ves." Now, I love everything, but when you're jamming you're jamming, but "Ya Ves" would be one of my favorites.

CP: I used to get a kick when she would pull people out of the crowd.

SQ: Oh, heck yeah! That was always fun to watch. We'd get a kick out of that because the guy would be all embarrassed but loving it at the same time. It would be so funny to watch. I think it was the fact that she was able to draw you in as a performer and as a singer, and make you feel part of what she was singing. I think she had definitely God-given talent. She definitely had something special.

5 Meals Tyler Florence Thinks Every Millennial Should Master

Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Erin Cullum

Listen up: Tyler Florence is about to give you a cooking lesson. I caught up with the chef and Food Network host at his classic San Francisco restaurant, Wayfare Tavern, to discuss the importance of accessible and affordable fresh fruit and vegetables (he's part of Naked Juice's #DrinkGoodDoGood campaign that donates 10 pounds of fresh produce to food deserts for every selfie posted with the hashtag) as well as to learn some cooking basics as a busy millennial. "We're talking about masterpieces. There's a couple things that are easy and quick, and things that are just good for you as a person to know how to rock. It's about having this baller cooking persona. Some things are quick and easy, and some things you're a master at," Tyler added. With that in mind, Tyler shared his five dishes you can (and should) master.

1. Bolognese

Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Perry

Tyler's method: "Three different kinds of chopped meat: ground beef for flavor, ground veal for texture, and ground pork for fat. Equal portions: a third, a third, and a third. Carrots, celery, onions, garlic, rosemary, and sage. I like to put it in the food processor and pulse it down. Sauté that stuff in olive oil, add the different chopped meats, give it a good stir, and then add tomatoes, red wine, and milk. Let it cook until it's baby-food soft. It takes about two to three hours. It takes about 15 minutes to get it into the pot and a few hours to cook, but it's a legendary pasta sauce when it's really, really good. Traditionally it's [served with] pappardelle, but it could be tagliatelle, spaghetti, whatever. I like to top it off with a scoop of fresh ricotta cheese."

2. Vinaigrette

Tyler's method: "You have to know how to make a classic vinaigrette: it's three parts olive oil to one part vinegar. And then mustard and fresh shallots and chopped herbs. You should know how to make a vinaigrette from scratch - no question - then you can make any salad and you can modify that salad dressing a thousand different ways."

3. Pancakes

Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Anna Monette Roberts

Tyler's method: "Pancakes are super important. My 9-year-old has been diagnosed as gluten intolerant, so now we make them with Thomas Keller's Cup For Cup Flour, which is really great. Two cups flour, three eggs, two cups of buttermilk, a teaspoon of baking soda, a tablespoon of baking powder, a third of a cup of sugar, vanilla, a pinch of salt, and either lemon zest or orange zest."

4. Roast Chicken

Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Anna Monette Roberts

Tyler's method: "I think roasted chicken is super important. There are a lot of different methods on how to do that, but my favorite is the low and slow technique. So you want to set the moisture and the fat and think about the skin on the outside of that. Sage, rosemary, garlic, and salt and pepper: chop it up and make a smear. Rub it all over the inside and outside of the chicken. Cook it at 200°F for two hours, and then crank the oven up to 400°F and let the skin get nice and crispy. It's a fantastic cooking technique. It should read about 155°F at the joint with a thermometer."

5. Mashed Potatoes

Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Perry

Tyler's method: "Potatoes have a really delicate, beautiful minerality to their flavor profile, and when you cook potatoes in water and you pour that water down the drain, you've extracted all the flavor of the potato. So what I do with mashed potatoes - because you finish them with cream and butter anyway, right? - is I'll take that same cream and butter and add that to the potatoes and cook the potatoes in cream and butter. So cold, peeled, chopped potatoes, cream, butter, and olive oil. I like garlic. I like sage and rosemary flavor combinations, and a little bit of thyme. When the potatoes are tender, I put a bowl on the counter and a colander inside that bowl. I pour the potatoes through the colander, and the cream will collect on the bottom. Then I'll put the potatoes back into the pot and take the potato-infused garlic cream and fold that back into the potatoes, and it's the most incredible flavor profile. It's the best mashed potato you'll ever taste in your entire life."

Hate Your Enlarged Pores? Here's How to Shrink Them - For Good

When it comes to my complexion, I'm kind of a control freak. I need my dark circles to be invisible, any breakouts to be tamed, and hyperpigmentation faded, stat. But even when I'm feeling stellar about my skin, I seem to always be plagued by one stubborn concern: enlarged pores.

To my frustration, I heard through the grapevine that they couldn't be treated. "You know, once your pores are stretched out, they're stretched for good," a colleague claimed. I refused to accept this as fact, so I reached out to Dr. Craig Austin, New York City dermatologist and founder of Cane + Austin. Luckily, he dispelled those rumors and assuaged my concerns.

"You absolutely can shrink your pores," he told me. As it turns out, knowing what pores actually are is essential to making them smaller.

The little openings are the home of all the hair follicles and sebaceous (oil-producing) glands in your skin. Buildup of that oil often leads to pore-enlarging blackheads, a mild form of acne. "Blackheads are caused by accumulation of bacteria in the pore," explained Dr. Austin. So when that bacteria mixes with oil and dead skin cells, the small opening gets congested and gets larger.

The analogy that makes sense to me is comparing pores to a garden hose. If you block the end of the hose, then turn it on, water can't get out. Similarly, when the hardened oil of a blackhead clogs a pore, the sebum struggles (and ultimately fails) to flow through freely. The blackhead then grows larger and larger, stretching out your pores.

It makes sense, then, that clearing out your pores is essential to making them smaller. After all, removing the gunk inside will allow them to shrink back to their original size. But instead of squeezing out the offending blemish (don't pick your skin!), Dr. Austin advises treating them with a combination of glycolic and salicylic acids.

Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid, a powerful exfoliant that removes the dull, dead top layer of the skin. "Additionally, it helps exfoliate the hair follicle," explained Dr. Austin. That means the ingredient goes within the pore and scrubs it out.

To really tackle your pores, you want to partner an alpha hydroxy acid with a beta hydroxy acid, which will cut through oil. Salicylic acid is a particularly popular choice in the antiblemish category, as it has kerolytic properties.

"A keratolytic gets rid of keratin and sebum, which both block pores," he shared. (Keratin is the protein that binds skin cells together and causes dead cells to remain on your complexion's surface.) "By removing sebum, keratin, and bacteria, your pores will shrink."

The doctor is partial to Cane + Austin Acne Retexture Pads ($60), and I've also seen success using BeautyRx Dermstick for Pores ($29) and Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Night Serum ($90), all of which contain both glycolic and salicylic acids. However, I recommend you visit a dermatologist to see what's best for you. "Your dermatologist might prescribe prescription Retin-A, which functions to open up hair follicles to remove sebum and keratin," Dr. Austin added.

Because of their exfoliating superpowers, glycolic and salicylic acids are often found in at-home chemical peels, which are recommended to treat enlarged pores. (I like Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peels ($16) - they contain a bunch of effective acids including glycolic and salicylic.) However, while facial scrubs and chemical peels both slough the complexion's surface, they do not function in the same way. Acids are actually working to break down the bonds holding dead cells onto your skin. Facial scrubs use microbeads, crushed walnut shells, salt, or other materials to physically scour your face. It is essential that you don't substitute one of these for an acid-based treatment. "The friction [of a face scrub could result in] potential thickening of the skin, which may cause a blockage of the pores," warned Dr. Austin.

If your pores aren't congested but you're still dissatisfied with their appearance, it could be one of two other major suspects: aging and sun damage. Both affect elastic tissue, which surrounds each of the tiny openings. "Elastic tissue is part of the connective tissue, which holds the skin together," Dr. Austin explained. Aging and sun damage lead to the degeneration of elastic tissue, and when this occurs, the pore loses its support, causing it to dilate.

Unfortunately, fighting these causes of stretched-out pores is more challenging than those that are larger from being congested. Because aging and sun damage occur slowly over a long period of time, reversing the process will be time consuming. (Sadly, my enlarged pores are another reminder that I'm getting older.) But it's not all bad news. Glycolic acid does stimulate production of new collagen and elastic tissues, which helps firm skin and close the pores.

However, if you're as impatient I am , there are two options to consider during your next visit to the dermatologist. "An in-office glycolic chemical peel - a stronger upgrade from over-the-counter peels - is super effective," Dr. Austin told us. "An even deeper option is a nonablative Fraxel treatment, which requires a few days of skin recovery." Learn more about how resurfacing Fraxel lasers work here.

Above all, it's essential to remember that consistency is the key when it comes to skin care. If you're really passionate about shrinking your pores, use your favorite chemical exfoliant religiously! With time, you should see results - and by that, I mean you'll see fewer and fewer of those pesky enlarged pores.

This Will Be the Most Popular Designer Dress of the 2017 Award Season

It's not uncommon for stars to start plucking dresses from the runway as soon as they're debuted. But there has been no collection so exciting to choose from as Dior's Spring 2017 line. Jennifer Lawrence and Bella Hadid have already selected more than one look from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's debut show for the fashion house. Perhaps it's because these stylish, sensible celebrities like what the clothes stand for: a marriage of feminist phrases on graphic tees with pretty tulle skirts. Every outfit proved that a lady can look girlie, but be strong-as-hell in her ways.

In 2016 alone, 16 of these Dior ensembles have been shown off twice - once on the catwalk, and later on the red carpet. Though some have seen minor tweaks in colorway, straps, or embroidery patterns, these designs are clearly causing a craze. We predict it will extend far into Award season, so don't be surprised when the actors gather at the upcoming ceremonies, and Dior dresses are all over the place. Scroll for all the proof.

There's No Reason to Delay Trying to Get Pregnant After a Miscarriage, According to New Study

After a woman experiences a miscarriage, many doctors advise waiting - some up to six months - before trying to conceive again, no matter how eager she is. However, according to new research, there's actually no benefit to a mom waiting a certain period of time.

The study's findings, published in the journal of Human Reproduction Update, is good news for those anxious to begin expanding their family after loss. "There is now ample evidence to suggest that delaying a pregnancy following a miscarriage is not beneficial and unless there are specific reasons for delay couples should be advised to try for another pregnancy as soon as they feel ready," said the study's leader, Sohinee Bhattacharya.

While the World Health Organization based its current recommendation that women wait six months on information from one study, this new research looked at 10 studies. Research concluded that although the WHO advises the delay due to safety concerns for the baby, it isn't any riskier for a child to be conceived weeks or months after a miscarriage.

In fact, researchers found a possible benefit. According to the data, you're 18 percent less likely to have another miscarriage when you get pregnant less than six months after a previous loss compared to those waiting the recommended six months.

"Women who get pregnant after less than six months between the pregnancy and the loss should not be worried about adverse pregnancy outcomes, and if nothing else actually they should be encouraged," said Enrique Schisterman, a senior investigator in epidemiology at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and coauthor of one of the studies used in the new findings.

However, Enrique points out that there's one area that needs further exploration: how far along a woman was in her pregnancy before miscarrying. "I think we need a little bit more data on the different underlying reasons for a pregnancy loss and see what the optimal interval is," Enrique said.

The Simple Gym Tweak That Will Help Tone Your Triceps

There are many different exercises you can do to build stronger, toned arms. You may not believe it, however, if we told you that one of the most popular triceps exercises can be adjusted in a small way to make a much bigger difference in targeting the muscle. Interested? We thought so! The exercise we're talking about is the triceps pressdown.

Triceps Are the Key to Toned Arms

The triceps are the large muscles on the back side of the upper arm, and when those muscles are in shape, it shows. Many women boast that tight triceps can boost your confidence, especially when you're wearing tank tops or sleeveless dresses. But it's not just about looks. Not only do the triceps look good when you train them, but they give you much added strength in your arms that will allow you to complete everyday tasks at home and on the job.

Adding muscle to your body also benefits your metabolism in a positive way. The more muscle a person has, the more calories you will burn, even while at rest. That's because it takes more energy (calories) to maintain muscle than it does to maintain fat.

The Easy Hack

According to certified personal trainer Heather Neff, "With the triceps pressdown exercise, you will be targeting the triceps directly, of course, but with one simple movement of the wrists, you'll be able to feel an even deeper burn in the muscle." She told us that the best way to accomplish this is to simply turn the wrist outward during each of your reps to feel more engagement in the triceps.

Here's how to do the triceps pressdown:

  • Step 1: Step up to the cable machine and grab the rope dangling above your head (make sure you've set the weight that suits you and will allow you to perform about 10-12 reps per set).
  • Step 2: Stand with your feet at about hip-width apart and keep the back straight, chest out, and head facing forward.
  • Step 3: Your grip should be palms facing each other and your arms should be at about shoulder's width with your elbows tucked in.
  • Step 4: Engage the triceps and the core, and pull the rope down until your arms are fully extended. During this movement, turn the wrists slightly out till you feel more engagement in the triceps and hold for a second. At this point, your fingers should be parallel to the ground, not facing each other.

By moving your grip this way, you'll be rounding out each rep so you can feel movement even more, making it the best angle for targeting the triceps.

This Vlogger Let Her Drunk Boyfriend Narrate a Makeup DIY - and the Results Are Hilarious

The newest trend in YouTube makeup tutorials is unexpected voiceovers, and if you liked this dad-joke-filled version, you'll crack up at vlogger Casey Holmes's take. She opted to enlist her charming boyfriend Davis for the task, but he took the challenge one step further by pregaming with some moonshine. The result is a charmingly tipsy narration.

"Here, we're going to add a little bit of . . . eye stuff . . . to make my eyes ready to go," he slurred as Casey crafted a glittery smoky eye. "It's a look that you gotta go for if you're tryin' to say, 'Hey, I'm ready to party, but I'm also independent,' ya know what I'm saying?"

Davis's hilarious remarks are often punctuated with equally amusing emoji, captions, and sound effects, which Casey added in as responses to his jokes. This includes crickets chirping, "NOPE!" and the "thinking" emoji.

As the DIY progresses, it's clear that Davis has a pretty advanced understanding of makeup. He knows what highlighter and liquid lipsticks are and even understands the importance of false lashes.

"Do your contouring, and put on your eyelashes," he insisted as Casey went on with her tutorial. "That's like, the keys to success right there." Davis, we couldn't agree more. Prepare to crack up and watch the video for yourself.

This 7-Year-Old Boy With Down Syndrome Is Making History in The Nutcracker

Jack Barlow is not letting Down syndrome slow him down - the 7-year-old boy is the newest star of The Nutcracker ballet production in Cincinnati, OH. After joining the Ballet Moves program four years ago, Jack's passion for ballet became very clear. What started as a joke between his mother, Ashley, and Julie Sunderland, the director of the Cincinnati Ballet, turned into a huge moment for Jack. Ashley joked about moving to Russia to pursue her son's passion for ballet and Julie responded, "Maybe he should be in The Nutcracker."

As the first child with Down syndrome to star in the Cincinnati Ballet's production, Jack is making history. "He is Jack Barlow in The Nutcracker," Julie said. "He is nervous just like any other kid. He knows his part just like any other kid. He's going to do his best, just like any other kid."

As Party Boy No. 1 in the production, Jack lit up the stage, and the above clip is lighting up our lives!
