Dakota stunned in an Alexander McQueen gown, while Jamie looked as handsome as ever in a sleek gray suit. The Irish actor was also joined by his wife, Amelia Warner, who he posed for photos with before the cast headed inside for the screening. Dakota and Jamie are reprising their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in Fifty Shades Darker, and thankfully, the second installment of the franchise is better than the first one - but will you see Jamie's penis?

Just Because You're a Parent Doesn't Mean "Your Phone Should Get Fondled More Than You Do"
Baby food company Plum Organics has released a PSA encouraging parents to have more sex. The campaign entitled "Do Your Part(ner)" was released with a hysterical video featuring several couples in their beds, doing everything but having sex. The narrator in the video reminds parents that "just because you're parents, that doesn't mean your phone should get fondled more than you do."
Plum Organics polled American parents and found that 70 percent of millennial parents feel guilty going out with their partner and leaving the kids at home, and spend the majority of their time together discussing their kids. Even more astounding is that one third of parents spend most of their time awake in bed on social media.
The idea behind this awesome campaign is that a stronger relationship between parents builds a happier home and creates a better environment for your kids. Why does a baby food company care about your sex life, you ask? Because having more babies means you'll need more baby food.

These Are the Heart Disease Myths You Need to Know About
Though most women are well-acquainted with the pink ribbons that call attention to breast cancer, far fewer know that February is American Heart Month, when the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign strives to bring visibility to heart disease in women: the leading cause of female death. as a physician, these are the most common myths about women's heart health I hear, and why understanding the truth is crucial to reducing your risk.
Myth: Heart disease is a man's disease
In fact, cardiovascular disease often disproportionately affects women. Since 1984, heart disease has claimed the lives of more women than men, and women are significantly less likely than men to survive their first heart attack. Still, the threat hasn't appeared to sink in for most young women: only seven percent of women view heart disease as their greatest health concern, compared to 34 percent who view breast cancer as the major risk.
Myth: I'm young – I don't need to worry about heart disease yet
The prevalence of cardiovascular disease is low in premenopausal women, likely due to the partially protective effects of estrogen. But the primary risk factors for heart disease - high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes - can appear in women in their 20s. The lifestyle choices you make early on, like quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and eating healthy can prevent these risk factors and dramatically cut your likelihood of developing heart disease later. Lifestyle modifications don't have to be major. When it comes to exercise, for example, all you need is 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.
Myth: Women with heart disease have symptoms
A full 64 percent of women who have suffered heart attacks experienced either no symptoms, or nonspecific symptoms, before the event. Although chest pain is the hallmark signal of a heart attack, vague symptoms such as sleep disturbance, fatigue, nausea, and shortness of breath are more likely to occur in women than men. To know how to interpret symptoms like these, understanding your personal risk is crucial. All major medical guidelines recommend screening for cardiovascular risk factors at least once in early adulthood, so if you haven't had your cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure checked, see your primary care doctor.
Myth: A low-fat diet helps prevent heart disease
The theory that a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet promotes heart health is one that the sugar industry led us to believe for decades. But a recent study of over 7,000 people found that those who were asked to supplement a Mediterranean diet with additional fat, either olive oil or nuts, had 30 percent fewer cardiovascular events compared with people who followed a fat-restricted diet. The key is focusing on unsaturated fats, found in nuts, avocado, and vegetable oils, and avoiding the trans fats commonly found in processed foods.
Myth: Birth control increases the risk of heart attack
A 2012 study involving more than 1.6 million women did indeed find that low-dose oral contraceptive pills appeared to confer a 50 percent increased risk of heart attack. But the rate of cardiovascular events in reproductive aged women is so rare that an increase of this magnitude actually translates to just 1 additional heart attack per 10,000 women. If you have other risk factors for heart disease, particularly if you smoke, it's worth talking to your doctor about alternative contraceptive methods. But for healthy women in their 20s and early 30s, there's no need to worry.

Every Mysterious Quote We Have About Stranger Things Season 2
Ever since the first season of Stranger Things dropped way back in August 2016, we've been itching to get any and all information about season two. Luckily for us, February has already yielded a rush of new and exciting developments. In addition to an exciting Super Bowl trailer, we've also got locked in on a release date. To sweeten the deal even more Entertainment Weekly has given us our first concrete plot details, so we can officially begin obsessing over every single word to try and figure out what's to come. Read all the quotes below.
- Co-creator Matt Duffer teased some emotional baggage for Will Byers: "He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down. The question is whether they're real or not. So it seems like he's having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder."
- Duffer hinted at another more human villain in the episodes to come: "Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that."
- Winona Ryder revealed that Joyce has a new love interest (a former classmate): "She's trying to mask a lot. I think she's made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons' lives."
- Co-creator Ross Duffer shared how Barb and Eleven's perceived deaths affect the Wheelers: "[Nancy] and Mike are both the most screwed-up because they're the ones who both lost someone. They're both grappling with that, and we see the effects."
- Gaten Matarazzo dished on Dustin's new extraterrestrial pet: "It's a little creature I get to bond with. It's obviously not from this planet or this dimension."
- David Harbour described receiving his first script for season two: "I got the first script of season two, and the first five minutes I was on my feet going, 'Yes! Yes!' Because they open up the world in such a new way," he told Vanity Fair. "And these characters that I feel like are so iconic, and that we love so deeply, get to really go on different arcs and different journeys and explore these little things that we touched on in their personalities and psychologies. And we get to really expand on that . . . I really do think it's going to be thrilling."
- Harbour explained how Hopper must protect the town's secrets: "It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, 'This did happen and this didn't happen.' He's struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up."
- Harbour insisted that Barb is gone, but not forgotten: "We do deal with the loose ends in season two, and we do deal with some of the internet rage over Barb's death," he said to IGN. "We will have justice for Barb's death in some sense."
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes Got Together in a Simple and Lovely Way

Ryan Gosling is the internet's boyfriend (you know the whole "Hey, Girl" thing, right?), so it was only natural that he broke a lot of hearts when he started dating Eva Mendes in 2011. The couple met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines and quietly started dating during filming. In the movie, the two played a turbulent couple who share a son.

Their real-life romance was first confirmed in September 2011 when they were spotted showing PDA at Disneyland. While they have been extremely private about their romance and have rarely been photographed together, they are definitely still going strong. They welcomed their first daughter, Esmeralda, in September 2014, and their second daughter, Amada, in April 2016. Most recently, Ryan opened up about his "lady" during an emotional acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globes. Some celebrity couples can be way over the top with their relationships, but Ryan and Eva prove that being low-key about love doesn't mean it's any less special.
The Infuriating Reason Young Girls Stop Believing They're Super Smart at Age 6
Young girls are starting to feel less intelligent by age 6. Our friends at YourTango are here to tell us how to fix this terrible misconception.
. . . and what we NEED to do to fix the confidence gap for girls.
There's a depressing new study that argues that girls start doubting their own intelligence by age six.
Age SIX - isn't that crazy?
According to the research, published in Science Magazine, when boys and girls are age 4 and 5, both groups are equally apt to say their own genders are "really, really smart" (approximately 70% of each group).
However, by age six, boys' confidence in the intelligence of their own gender remains fairly constant, while girls' confidence starts to plummet.
Only 48% of six-year-old girls identified their own gender as "really, really smart." That's a huge drop.
In the words of the researchers, "the present results suggest a sobering conclusion: Many children assimilate the idea that brilliance is a male quality at a young age. This stereotype begins to shape children's interests as soon as it is acquired and is thus likely to narrow the range of careers they will one day contemplate."
As the parent of a young girl, I can tell you that I've seen evidence of this trend firsthand and it really, really sucks.
"Dad, I'm terrible at math."
I hear this a lot from my fifth-grade daughter, despite all evidence to the contrary on her report card. (Her math scores are totally in-line with the rest of her grades.)
I don't remember exactly when it started. She used to be equally enthusiastic about all of her subjects in school. Reading, science, history, even math. In the beginning, she was just a sponge for knowledge. She'd often talk about how she was going to be an astronaut/movie star when she grew up.
But then, as school progressed, something subtly shifted.
You could see her moving herself away from the hard sciences and aligning herself more towards the humanities. If it was just a matter of talent or personal preference, that would be one thing, but her performance in math and science has never wavered in her school work.
There has never been a performance gap between her work in math or science and her work in any other subject.
However, a confidence gap is readily apparent.
A self-esteem gap. No matter what I (or her teacher) tell her, my daughter does not think that she's "smart" when it comes to math.
At some point in her education career, my daughter - and many daughters I know - began doubting their abilities. They started demurring. They became self-depreciating.
They began shaking their heads and saying "I don't know. I'm not good at this" WAY more than their male classmates, even though, at this age, girls perform stronger academically than boys do.
One of the interesting aspects of this new study is that the researchers found that, when they asked six-year-old girls if they wanted to play a game for children who are "really, really smart" or for children who "work really, really hard," girls were much more likely to opt for the game for "hard workers."
So girls know they get good grades and they know they work hard, and yet they are still apprehensive to regard themselves as smart.
This gets back to the researchers' conclusion that I mentioned earlier - When children are young, they assume that brilliance is a male quality.
Which, once again, sucks.
And I'm saying that as the father of a daughter and as a man.
Men are NOT inherently smarter than women. My often-oblivious gender has just been given less reason to doubt itself over the years.
Why?
That's the big question at the end of the Science Magazine study. How did this happen? How do we fix it?
In a NPR story about the research, Sapna Cheryan, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Washington, suggests that various environmental factors probably play a role in the confidence gap - things like stereotypes, media exposure, and "parental beliefs."
I think you can sum all that up under one word - REPRESENTATION.
In society, we are much more apt to cite brilliance in men than we are in women.
There is vast evidence that women are underrepresented in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). When we see geniuses and scientists in movie and TV roles, they are largely played by men. When kids learn history in school, they heard a lot about figures like Thomas Edison, but female scientists don't get the same attention.
(There are a lot of historical and social reasons for this - including the fact that many early female scientists were either discouraged from pursuing their academic careers or had men take credit for their work.)
ALL of these reasons point to why representation MATTERS.
Not too along ago, Lego introduced their first-ever playset featuring female scientists. That MATTERS. The movie Hidden Figures, the true story about the incredible contributions of female African-American mathematicians to the U.S. space program, was a massive success. That MATTERS.
If we want girls to start trusting their academic abilities as much as boys do - which doesn't take anything away from boys at all - we have to start showing girls MORE examples of women who are out-and-proud about their technical brilliance.
We need to give them role models. We need to stop stereotyping. When we teach science and math to our children, we need to make sure that all of the important figures referenced in those studies aren't just men.
There are easy ways to do this. Definitely take your girls to see Hidden Figures, and buy them the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comic books (about a highly intelligent little girl scientist and inventor, recently named the smartest superhero ever).
Seek out as much media as you can about very smart girls and women. Point them out when you see them on TV or in movies.
But also, watch your own language. Do you subconsciously refer to doctors, scientists, and astronauts as "he"?
Do you refer to little girls as "pretty" or "cute" and boys as "clever" and "smart" (or "tough")? You might be shocked at how much language biases like this creeps into our lives.
We need to show girls that their gender holds a place in STEM subjects and that no one - their teachers, their parents, their society - doubts that they are "really, really smart."
Because brilliance ISN'T just a male quality. But, regrettably, confidence can be.

The Surprising Way Legion Is Connected to the X-Men Universe
FX's new series Legion is a bizarrely beautiful, action-packed love story - that also happens to feature a lesser-known member of the X-Men. The show premiered on Wednesday, and unless you're a comic book buff, you may not have even realized that it's connected to the popular franchise. "Legion" is actually the mutant name of the main character, David Haller (Dan Stevens), who we meet in the first episode. Currently residing in a mental institution, David doesn't understand how his powers work, or even what they are. The pilot establishes that David has uncontrollable telekinetic abilities (like in Steven King's Carrie) and he can easily absorb the powers and personalities of those around him, which is why doctors, ignorant to the existence of mutants, diagnose him as schizophrenic.
So, how does Legion's story fit into the larger X-Men world? It's kind of impossible to tell Legion's story without talking about the characters we're familiar with: Legion is Professor X's son. Charles Xavier meets Gabrielle Haller while he is visiting a group of Holocaust survivors and attempting to ease their psychological pain with his telepathic powers. He has an affair with Gabrielle, she becomes pregnant, but keeps the baby a secret from his biological father. Legion and the Professor meet much later.
In the comic books, Legion's turning point comes when he accidentally murders an assassin who had killed his stepfather. He remains psychologically linked to the killer, whose personality remained in the recesses of his mind. The assassin, Jemail Karami, is one of three personas who are constantly at war in his brain; the other two are adventurer Jack Wayne and teenage girl Cyndi. He's gained telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis through these individuals, respectively. It doesn't appear that FX's series is following Legion's story to the T, but it's possible that we may eventually see shades of these characters since Legion does already exhibit these powers in the show.
As producer Bryan Singer said last year, it is "part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it - it could exist completely on its own." He noted that it "will relate to future X-Men movies." Because Legion eventually joins forces with the X-Men, it makes sense that his story will eventually intertwine with the links of Professor X, Rogue, and Magneto.

There's something so comforting about escaping reality and recalling memories from the '90s - you know, the good ol' days spent challenging friends to Pokémon battles without using a cell phone app, or perusing the racks of a movie store rather than scanning through options on a computer. Call me biased, but the '90s were arguably the best decade in all of history, and the internet seems to agree.
The hashtag #90sTimeCapsuleItems recently started trending on social media, calling on all Twitter users to share their favorite throwbacks from the glorious time. Below are some of our favorites that are sure to fill you with your daily dose of nostalgia.
The Horrifying Reason This Girl Ended Up in the Hospital After Using a Bath Bomb
A terrifying experience has proven that not all bath bombs lead to soothing relaxation. According to Cosmopolitan UK, a 10-year-old Welsh girl landed in the hospital after simply adding one of the fizzies to her tub.
Mother Leanne Keating purchased a passion fruit and watermelon bath bomb from her local Wilko's (a budget retail chain) for her daughter Tia. This was her child's first experience using a bath bomb. Just five days later, Tia had developed a rash that looked strikingly similar to meningitis. Concerned, Leanne brought her child to the hospital, where doctors cleared Tia of danger and sent her home, saying she had a severe skin reaction.
Leanne told news agency Caters that there has been no improvement for a month now and has spread from Tia's stomach to her neck, face, arms, and thighs. "It just keeps getting worse. Her skin is really itchy. It's really affecting her self-esteem," she said. "She just won't come out of her bedroom, she's really low about it."
None of the prescription creams Tia has tried to soothe the infection have worked, and she has been missing school as a result. According to Leanne, there were no warnings on the bath bomb other than to "keep away from babies."
"I'd say people shouldn't use these bath bombs, even if you don't have sensitive skin," said Leanne. "The labeling should have a warning."
Cosmopolitan UK reported that a Wilko spokesperson said the product had passed a safety test and the company was investigating the complaint.
"We're really sorry to hear of Mrs. Keating and Tia's situation and customer safety is paramount at Wilko," said the spokesperson. This is the first incident we've been made aware of but we have launched an immediate and rigorous investigation and continue to liaise with Mrs. Keating."
Visit Cosmopolitan UK to learn more, but be warned: the image of Tia's rash may make some readers uncomfortable. Here's hoping she gets better soon.
George and Amal Clooney Are Expecting Twins!
Congrats are in order for George and Amal Clooney, who are expecting twins! The news was broken on Thursday but The Talk host Julie Chen, who told the audience, "The Talk can confirm that the 55-year-old superstar and his highly accomplished 39-year-old attorney wife are expecting twins." She also added that Amal is reportedly due "this June." The couple had a whirlwind courtship before they made things official when they tied the knot in Venice, Italy in September 2014. Congrats to George and Amal on their growing family!
We Tried the New Chocolate Strawberry Oreos So You Definitely Don't Have To
We are no longer shocked when Oreo comes out with eyebrow-raising flavors (remember Swedish Fish Oreos?), so when the news of Chocolate Strawberry Oreos broke, we thought, "OK, we can get down with those." Just in time for Valentine's Day, the limited-edition Oreos have the creamy chocolate filling you're familiar with, but with a pink, strawberry-flavored dollop of icing right in the middle. Having just devoured a sweet delivery of chocolate-covered strawberries from Shari's Berries, I hoped the Oreos would deliver similar results to my palette.
The first thing I noticed is that the fruity smell hits you as soon as you open the package. "Very perfumey," I thought as I pulled back the plastic and got a whiff. Although the strawberry scent is strong, the strawberry flavor is not nearly as prominent. Most of us agreed that the cookies taste like regular Chocolate Oreos with a hint of artificial strawberry and a slightly chemical-like aftertaste. "They taste like the strawberry ice cream you get from the ice cream truck as a kid," one editor thought. Overall, we have to say these are best described as "meh." Not the worst Oreo we've ever tried, but certainly not the best.
If you're eyeing these Oreos on shelves as you're thinking about your Valentine's Day plans, I'd recommend skipping these and making your own chocolate-covered strawberries instead.

Would We Wait 2 Hours For This Edible Cookie Dough? Yes, Yes We Would
In 2014, Kristen Tomlan left her job to pursue her confectionery dreams and create the best edible cookie dough. Now, Kristen's cookie dough venture has materialized in the form of Dō Cookie Dough Confections, which just opened its very first storefront in New York City.
Dō's products are entirely safe to eat because they are made with a pasteurized egg product and ready-to-eat flour - both of which are treated with a heat process that kills harmful bacteria and eliminates any chance of salmonella.
While edible cookie dough sounds simple enough, the highly anticipated brick-and-mortar shop has an extensive menu. For starters, you can order scoops of cookie dough or ice cream - or both - and have them served in a cup or cone with classic toppings. The cookie dough flavors include chocolate chip, sugar cookie, brownie batter, oatmeal M&M's, and commando - a signature dough without chocolate chips. Then there are crazier flavor combinations that bring together different toppings and flavors in an over-the-top manner, like the Chocolate Dream which combines brownie batter cookie dough, chocolate chips, and Oreo cookies.
In addition, Dō also offers ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, cookie cakes, pies, fudge, and more - all using their cookie dough, of course. If raw cookie dough was never your thing, you can also take the dough home to bake cookies or other treats.
Dō is officially open for business at 550 LaGuardia Place, Tuesday to Sunday starting at 10 a.m. You might want to get there early because the wait is said to be around one to two hours. Scoops range from $4 to $9. Ahead, we've rounded up some pictures of the adorable shop, as well as their most mouthwatering menu items.
The 1 Reason Christian Grey Looks So Much Sexier in Fifty Shades Darker
If you find yourself getting slightly more aroused watching Fifty Shades Darker than you did first movie, we have a theory.
There was backlash over Fifty Shades of Grey that Jamie Dornan's portrayal of Christian Grey just wasn't hot enough. So this time Jamie brought it - and a little something extra. And by that, we are referring to the slight scruff on his chiseled face.
According to a USA Today interview, Dornan prepped for the sequel by tanning, getting more muscle mass, and growing some scruff. "Shaving every day sucks," he said. "It's also a weird psychological thing, but ... I feel very exposed and naked with a shaved face."
This is a diversion from author E. L. James's wrote. In the books Christian is described as clean-shaven. Hey, this guys is - um - anal and pretty type A. But as we said, fans complained that Jamie-as-Christian needed to be edgier and many wanted him to rock a bit of facial hair. There was even a petition for him to sport some stubble.
Team Beard won, and if you can tell from the photos, Jamie looks smokin'. That said, anytime a movie diverts from the book, fans tend to get riled up. So, which do you prefer: clean-cut Christian or stubbly Christian?

Hallelujah: Fifty Shades Darker Is Better Than Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades Darker isn't so highly anticipated because we're already trying to call 2018 Oscar nominees (FWIW, you probably forgot the first movie was nominated for an Oscar). Like the Twilight franchise, for which Fifty Shades can attribute its existence, the people who are going to see this sequel knew they were going to see it years ago, reviews be damned. But let me just say: Hallelujah: it's better than Fifty Shades of Grey. If you were on the fence about seeing it (or you need compelling evidence to convince a friend to go see it with you), here are a few reasons the movie is at least more entertaining than its predecessor.
The Script Is Better
Let me clarify: the script is not amazing. But! The dialogue is about a million times better. It's still based on the E. L. James book, and thus, pretty cheesy plot-wise (if you don't know: Christian and Ana get back together, have lots of sex, and deal with outside distractions in the form of a crazy stalker, a crazy boss, and a crazy older woman from Jamie's past). With James having replaced the first movie's screenwriter with her own husband, Niall Leonard, one wouldn't have expected much improvement - though maybe some more loyalty to the book. In any case, Darker is actually not darker at all, but funnier, lighter, and more enjoyable. With sex and stalkers. (And thank God: no one ever says "Laters, Baby" out loud).
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan Are Way More Natural
The script isn't the only improvement since the first movie; Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who play star-crossed lovers Christian and Ana, seem to have found something they didn't have playing these characters before: comfort. On the page, these characters are written oddly, and never once feel like real people. In movie number two, though, they seem to have figured it out - if not who they are, at least, how to best act them. To her credit, Johnson added more to Ana from the beginning - a silly charm, I guess, that made her feel a little more real. Dornan, though, as attractive and talented as he is, never seemed comfortable inhabiting Christian; as a result, he feels like a caricature in the first movie. This time, though, he feels more like a real dude. He's still weird and rich, but he's far more believable.
The Scruff
OH MY GOD THE SCRUFF. After an apparent uproar over Dornan's lack of facial hair in the first movie, I'm beyond thrilled to report that our hero is covered in a beautiful layer of scruff. It makes a world of difference, believe me. If you couldn't take your eyes off of him before, you're going to have to remind yourself to blink in this movie.
The Sex Scenes Are Somehow Less Awkward to Watch
Or maybe going to the theater the first time to see Fifty Shades of Grey just dulled our sense of awkwardness for seeing a glorified sex-film with a room full of strangers. But there's also something distinctly different about the love scenes: they're still steamy, but Christian's trademark kink feels toned down (explained in the movie that it's what Ana wants). The music paired with the sex scenes was also immaculately chosen; seriously, not since the Twilight soundtracks have I felt so compelled to explain to people how superior the soundtrack is to a movie. Back to the sex: you know what the movie feels like now? A cheesy romantic comedy that just doesn't cut away when the leads start making out. And yes, I did just call Fifty Shades Darker a cheesy romantic comedy. The tone is all over the place, but at the end of the day, you're already there watching. Do you really care that you go from cheeky jokes about putting stuff in someone's butt to suicidal stalkers? The mind can keep up.
A Quick Reminder of the Movies Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone Have Costarred In
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are shaping up to be quite the onscreen duo. Their new film, La La Land, earned rave reviews and is now slaying the award-season circuit, winning all seven of the Golden Globes it was up for and scoring Oscar nods for both Stone and Gosling. They clearly love working together, because they keep doing it. It's been seven years since they initially costarred in a film, so in case you've forgotten, here are the movies they've appeared in together.
The Most Romantic Celebrity Proposal Stories, and How to Copy Them
Yes, celebrities may have access to insanely expensive engagement rings and the most beautiful travel destinations in the world, but we have to assume that celebrities feel the same amount of anxiety, excitement, and terror when it comes to proposing to their significant other. Before the lavish wedding ceremony and luxurious honeymoon comes the act of "popping the question," and stars have accomplished this task in both incredibly low-key and totally over-the-top ways.

We can always count on Urban Outfitters to make us feel nostalgic about old trends. But this time the brand isn't just rolling out a vintage graphic tee to do the trick. UO has partnered with Juicy Couture to put a modern spin on the iconic tracksuit from the 2000s. What it Feels Like to Learn That Your Kid Is the Bully - According to 6 Anonymous Parents
Most parents think their kids are amazing and, if not perfect, at least pretty great little people. However, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics in 2016, more than one in every 5 kids reports being bullied, which means that not every child is as nice as their parents would like to believe.
As schools work to crack down on this major issue, some moms and dads have been confronted with the upsetting news that that their perception of their child is wrong. Although some may dismiss the reports, struggle to believe them, or feel at a loss of what to do, others actually feel relieved.
These 6 parents opened up on Reddit to reveal what it feels like during that moment you first learn that your kid is another child's bully.
- "I will tell you that I was strangely grateful my daughter was the bully and not the victim - but probably for a different reason than you would expect. Because she was the bully, I could correct the issue. I can't control someone else's kid when I'm not around." - peaceloveandbacon
- "She is USUALLY the most kind-hearted kid I know. I couldn't believe she participated in such a thing. When she got home I asked her if this girl who she drew pictures of was her friend, when she said yes. I said well do you think her mum will want to let her come over and play with you after you drew pictures of her like that? Shamefully she said no, that she wouldn't blame her for not wanting to let her. At first I thought she was upset cause she knew I'd be pissed and she would be in trouble but at the end of it I think she realised that it was not okay." - ShimmyB
- "I received a call from another parent when my daughter was in third grade. Apparently, she and a few other girls started a 'mean girls' club. They hung out in the bathroom at lunch and refused to let this little girl join. They also refused to let other little girls use 'their' bathroom. I called the other mums and let them know what our daughters were doing, and I also talked with my daughter about being a nice girl, who people like and respect, vs. being a mean girl who people hate and make fun of behind her back." - TinglyMcMuffin
- "My teenage boys were driving past an apartment building yelling at kids. They were being d**ks. I would not have known if someone hadn't posted about it in the town's Facebook page. I privately messaged the mum of the child they were shouting at. I then drove them to the building and made them apologise, in front of his parents and grandmother. They were unable to go to town without adult supervision for a few weeks. I was not amused." - Not_So_Super_Mom
- "My daughter is 4 and a half. Last week her teacher talked to her in front of me about spitting on a little girl. We have been having a lot of discussions about respect lately so I was really disappointed and upset." - MissTotesMaGoats
- "In kindergarten, my daughter's teacher approached me after school one day when I was picking her up. She said how normally my kid was helpful and fun, etc. But today she seemed distant and kicked another child during a colouring. I told the teacher that her mum and I had just separated and that I was thankful for her telling me." - TheWizardofEws
Trump Staffers Are Trying to Make French Manicures Happen
Image Source: Getty / Kevork Djansezian /
We knew things would change when President Donald Trump took the Oval Office - in fact, some believe we've reverted by in time by about 70 years. And it looks like some of that conservatism is making its way into the beauty world.
According to The Washington Post, Washington DC is seeing a change in beauty trends since Trump's staffers have moved into the city. Specifically, two looks are emerging: french manicures and long hair.
It was reported that at the Luigi Parasmo Salon and Spa in Georgetown, a "steady stream of recently-relocated New Yorkers has been calling to schedule weekly blowouts and french manicures."
Owner Luigi Parasmo provided insight on the new clients, calling them "somewhat trendier" than the standard Washingtonian salon-goers. "Lots of long hair!" he added in an email to The Washington Post. "In general, big city people tend to be more attentive to their hair, nails and skin care."
Listen, we have nothing against french manis and lengthy locks. We are just noting that they're a diversion from modern trends, such as these pretty neutral or matte manicures. French manicures became popular in the US when Orly created at-home kits featuring the products needed to create the look in the 1970s. It's also a look our grandmothers like wearing to weddings and bat mitzvahs.
Then, there is the reference to long hair. We can see this in Trump associates including Kellyanne Conway and Hope Hicks. Also note that members of the Trump family - Melania, Ivanka, and Tiffany - all have chest-grazing locks. This is very different from the short strands rocked by fashion icons such as Anna Wintour and even Michelle Obama. Top industry hair pros pointed out that short hairstyles will be "in" for 2017.
Perhaps these ladies are executing Trump's request for the females in his presence to "dress like women." As the saying goes, men like longer hairstyles! Or this new class in Washington simply prefers classic styles, like long hair and white-tipped pink nails.

A Hilarious Picture of a Stay-at-Home Mom's Sick Day Compared to Her Working Coparent
Of all the changes I've had to adjust to since becoming a stay-at-home mom, sick days are the worst. I can take the hours on end talking only to the dog - he hardly ever interrupts and occasionally makes some thought provoking points. I'll gladly trade my fancy heels for crusty yoga pants - they double as convenient hand towels. And I'll play Candy Land until I'm catatonic, but dear lord . . . get me sick and I'm more than ready to tap out.
Last week my husband called me on his way home from work.
"I can't pick up any wine for you tonight," he croaked into the phone. Before I could burst into tears he said, "I'm sick. I've had to pull over and barf on the side of the highway twice. I don't know if I can make it home," his voice trailed off and I thought I heard sirens.
My stomach dropped and, as usual when I panic, my butt started to sweat. He would be fine (probably), but when did I last touch him? Images of the night before popped into my head when we . . . uh . . . shared germs. Pacing back and forth on the kitchen floor I wondered if there was any way possible to save myself.
"Finally!" I yelled when he walked in the house a half hour later, green and sweaty. "Here, wear this until you get upstairs," I said, tossing a surgical mask his way. I'm probably already a goner but maybe you can spare the kids."
That evening my hazmat suit and I attended to his every need. Changing out the liner of the barf bucket, offering tepid water, cool rags, extra blankets and adjusting the volume on the bedroom television. The next morning he slept as I got the kids ready for school, and then I brought him plain oatmeal with a side of fruit in bed. He spent the day catching up on his favorite Netflix shows and sleeping. By day's end he was feeling better, even refreshed, and returned to work the following day.
That's the working parent sick. It's different than the stay-at-home parent sick.
That's the working parent sick. It's different than the stay-at-home parent sick.
I woke a few mornings later, looking around for the elephant I was certain spent the night sitting on my head and the cat that had pooped in my mouth. My husband was already at work and against every instinct in my body to lay still, I knew I had to get the kids to school. The silver lining was that once they were they were there I could rest. Or die on the bathroom floor alone. Either way, they were going to school.
The decision of whether or not I could actually get out of bed was then made by my stomach, who demanded I run to the bathroom or clean vomit out of the sheets.
"Eeewww!" I heard a little voice behind me.
"Can you get Mommy a wet rag?" I asked.
"Sure!"
Then I heard the TV flip on while my kids cheered they could "do anything they want now."
My recovery that day looked somewhat different than that of my husband. I brushed hair into ponytails in between heaves, stood at the counter pouring cereal wrapped mummy tight in a blanket to keep me warm and also to keep my legs from buckling. There were a few times I didn't know if I could make it - but the thought of three kids running feral around my limp body was too much to bear. I powered through, spreading that peanut butter and tying those shoes with visions of laying on the couch in peace.
My recovery that day looked somewhat different than that of my husband.
My husband was concerned, but unable to take another day off work, so occasionally I texted him proof of life. Usually from the bathroom. After what seemed like twenty minutes of recovery time, I looked at the clock and saw I was going to have to Mom again in less than an hour.
"What's your policy on overnight stays?" I asked the school secretary when she picked up the phone. "Get lots of rest and take small sips of water," she replied. "You're not the first one to try this. At 3:22 we auction off stragglers to the highest bidder."
That night when my husband got home from work he hustled me right upstairs. "I'll get dinner and get the kids to bed," he said. "Don't worry about a thing. I've got this all under control. Do you need anything now?"
I wearily shook my head and waved at the ghost of my dead grandma standing in my closet as she reached out her hand for me to take it.
"There," he said, fluffing my pillow. "Your fresh barf bag is next to the bed. You'll be better in no time." His motives may sound sincere, but I know it was all self-serving. "You have to be . . . you can't leave me," I heard him whisper as he turned out the light and quietly backed out the door. "We have three girls and I don't know how to french braid."
You Won't Be Able to Tear Your Eyes Away From These Beautiful, Mesmerizing Stones
If you're mesmerized by anything sparkly, shiny, and beautiful, than prepare to become obsessed with minerals and stones. Though they might not be as eye-catching as aura crystals, minerals are just as pretty. One Imgur user rounded up some of the prettiest ones out there, and we've picked our favorites ahead.
The minerals and stones rounded up by Imgur user wakadorf are incredibly mesmerizing. Some are shiny, and others are trippy. Confused about what minerals are again? A mineral needs the following five properties, according to Geology.com: it needs to occur naturally, must be made out of inorganic material, is solid, has a "definite chemical composition," and has an "ordered internal structure."
Take a look at these minerals ahead, with captions from the Imgur user. You might be inspired to fill your home with these!

How to Decorate a Naked Cake in 5 Easy Steps
There's no doubt about it, naked cakes are having a moment. Baking and decorating one of these beauties might seem like a daunting project, but we'll let you in on a little secret: it's not as hard as it looks, provided you have some guidance and the right tools. (I wouldn't recommend attempting a tiered wedding cake on your first go, but a three-to-four-layer situation is totally doable.) Here, we break it all down for you, so you can have your cake and eat it too.
Before you begin decorating, you'll need to bake and completely cool three to four cake layers and prepare a large batch of buttercream frosting (this is not the time for seven-minute or whipped-cream-based frosting, as they're not sturdy enough). I made one and a half times this frosting recipe and had some, but not an outrageous amount, leftover. A note on the cake layers: since the sides will be naked, and therefore visible, take extra care to prep your pan, so that the layers will release neatly. We used Williams-Sonoma's excellent goldtouch nonstick pans (8-inch), but any nonstick pan should do the trick. For extra insurance, we also prepped the pans by lining with parchment, greasing, and flouring.
If This Street Style Is Any Indication, Selena Gomez's 2017 Looks Are Going to Be Good
If 2015 and 2016 were the years of Selena Gomez's style revival, then 2017 is when she brings up her game a notch and becomes the ultimate fashion star. The "Hands to Myself" singer, who is busier than ever with a producer gig for Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and a new album in the works, is just giving us one great street style look after another one - the fact that she's an ambassador for Coach might have something to do with that.
There was that coveted Coach dinosaur sweater, a sexy gingham dress solely held up by knots from Proenza Schouler, and a collared dress Victoria Beckham wore. What else does Selena have in store? Time will tell. Scroll ahead for her best looks this year thus far.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Just Debuted Her Baby Bump in a Bikini
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley confirmed she and partner Jason Statham are expecting a baby, and she did it with style. The supermodel posted a bikini shot to Instagram, taken by Jason on the beach. While we can't say we didn't notice her chevron-print triangle bikini, it's hard to miss her growing belly and obvious glow. With Rosie's clear handle on fashion, we can expect so many great maternity looks in her future. Perhaps she'll make her red carpet debut too, in a custom Saint Laurent dress? Here's hoping.
My Daughter Didn't Know I Worked For Years, and That's Not a Good Thing
Recently, I was scheduled to be the mystery reader in my daughter's classroom. Her teacher asked me to send a few clues about myself, which she would read to the class beforehand so they could guess who was coming. I sent my childhood dog's name, three big cities I lived in before settling in the Chicago area, and my job. "I'm a writer," said clue number three.
I walked into the class, and my daughter ran to greet me. "Mom," she said. "Why didn't you ever tell me you were a writer?" I was taken aback. Surely, she knew what I did professionally. She had certainly seen me typing away on my computer or heard me discussing articles I'd written with her dad and grandma, right? Apparently not. She had only guessed who I was because she knew my first golden retriever's name. My job: that was the real mystery.
I read a cute book to the class (If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don't!, which I had carefully chosen . . . because I love books so much that I'm a writer!!), after which her teacher asked the students if they had any questions for me. They had a lot. Half of them were about my favorite kinds of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and pies. The other half were about my job. What did I write? Did I like writing? Did I make up stories or tell real ones? The whole time I was answering them, I could see my daughter's face, slightly amazed, slightly confused.
I was the person who made her between two and 20 postschool snacks every day, who packed her lunches while yelling at her to eat breakfast because the bus was coming in seven minutes, who took her to movies and read her bedtime books; not a writer, not someone who had a "real" job at all. Had I been deliberately hiding something from her?
Had I been deliberately hiding something from her?
In truth, I think I had, even if it wasn't a conscious choice. After she was born, I stopped working full time, cutting my hours to part time. After her brother arrived almost three years later, I started working even less, transitioning from a part-time employee to a freelance contributor. I did those things because I wanted to be with my kids more and was lucky enough to have a spouse who agreed with that choice and was able to make up for my lost income with his career.
I wanted my children to always know they were my first priority, so I worked only when they were at preschool or after they went to bed. Sometimes I'd take them to our gym's childcare program and work from the lobby. And I didn't really talk about my work with her because I figured she wouldn't be interested.
But, here she was, surrounded by her classmates, telling me she was. After school that day, I sat her down. "Honey, did you really not know mommy worked at all?" I asked. "No, Mom, but I think it's really cool you're a writer." Cue my heart exploding. But then, I just felt sad.
Why had I, a woman with a Master's degree from a prestigious university, a woman who picked a career she was passionate about and had excelled in before having kids, a woman who still had big dreams for her future career, not shown that side of myself to my daughter? I wanted nothing more for her to have the same opportunities I had, to have a fruitful academic life followed by a professional one, to be able to choose what her work-family life looked like after she had her own kids, to know that motherhood and work are not mutually exclusive categories.
From that minute on, I knew that hiding my own professional life from her was doing a disservice to both of us. So now, she occasionally has to wait for that 15th snack while I finish an article. I sometimes ask her about story ideas to get her always-entertaining opinion. I tell her a babysitter is coming for a few hours so I can work. Because being her mom will always be my first priority, but letting her know that I am more than that has to be one, too.
Adorable Grandpa Asks For a Shirt With His Month Age on It to Match Grandson
Most parents on social media have found some sort of creative way to document their child's month-to-month growth, and for Mary Beth Valuk, that way has been through a new embroidered onesie for her son, Luke, to wear each month. However, for Luke's 9-month photo, Mary Beth found herself embroidering two shirts - one for Luke and one for his "Grampy," Bob.
In a hilarious photo of Bob - who was celebrating his 57th birthday - and Luke, you can see Bob's shirt, which reads "684 Months," in all its glory.
"My dad has said to me for some time that he wanted a matching one for his birthday, so he and Luke could take a picture," Mary Beth told The Huffington Post. She sent the photo to her husband, Matt, who thought the hilarious image should belong on Reddit. He captioned the photo "Grampy wanted a shirt to match the baby on his birthday," and watched as users upvoted the post like crazy.
What's better though, is what Grampy Bob has to say about his 15 seconds of Reddit fame. Matt said, "Grampy said he's 'blowing up like a Samsung phone' and loved the fact he was 'internet famous' for a day."
Please Tell Us Karlie Kloss Doesn't ACTUALLY Think Destiny's Child Sang "Waterfalls"
Image Source: Getty / Stuart C. Wilson
We've all misheard a lyric or two or three, forgotten the title of a song, and maybe even confused certain celebrities for each other, but model Karlie Kloss is hurting our feelings a little bit with her recent gaffe. In a feature called "Mega Fan Profile" for Love magazine, the 24-year-old outlined her obsession with Beyoncé, which has only gotten bigger since her Destiny's Child days. She explains how she's inspired and attracted by her "swag," loves her "creativity and passion," and gushes about "those costumes!" But the confusion began when Karlie was asked how Beyoncé has influenced her life, to which she wrote, "She is the soundtrack of my LIFE! C'mon, "Waterfalls!?"
OK, so: it's possible that Karlie thinks Destiny's Child, and not TLC, are responsible for the 1994 hit "Waterfalls." It's also likely that she just mixed up Beyoncé's "Rocket" with the iconic TLC hit because Beyoncé mentions "waterfalls" in the lyrics. Either way, we're just going to leave this here.
