You're Going to Want to Zoom in on Kate Middleton's New Tiny Henna Tattoo
Kate Middleton's not a regular (expectant) mom, she's a cool mom. Need proof? Well, the Duchess of Cambridge just got a henna tattoo from an artist in Sunderland, England - and it's absolutely gorgeous!
The (nonpermanent) inking occurred as Kate toured an old fire station-turned-artist collective with Prince William. The swirly brown flower placed on the back of Kate's hand came courtesy of 18-year-old artist named Shajida Begum, People reports.
Before you start asking, yes, it's safe for a pregnant woman to get a brown henna tattoo. The naturally made dye is made by mixing the henna plant with water, lemon, and essential oils. Once that paste dries onto skin, it leaves a brown marking that lasts for two weeks. (However, some artists use black henna, which is unsafe for pregnant women as it contains the chemical paraphenylenediamine, or PPD.)
Begum relayed to reporters the moment Kate decided to get the henna: "I said, 'Would you like a design?' and she was like, 'Yes, if you don't mind.'" Apparently, Kate's a big fan of the tiny tattoo. "She was saying that it was really pretty. I was just telling her how it works. I was telling her when she can wash it off - I said, 'When it becomes flaky,'" Begum said.
