Hold the Phone - Trader Joe's Now Sells Vegan Crab Cakes, and We're Drooling
Jackfruit is a magical meat substitute that can be transformed into pulled pork sandwiches, tacos, or even pot pie. This tropical fruit has the same texture as meat, so when thrown together with other ingredients, seasoning, and sauces, it can take on the flavor of your favorite meat dish - but it's totally vegan.
Trader Joe's has jumped on the jackfruit train by selling canned Green Jackfruit in Brine and a frozen meal, Yellow Jackfruit Curry with Jasmine Rice. Now, the fan-favorite grocery store has upped its jackfruit game by selling Vegan Jackfruit Cakes, which it dubs "crabless cakes." Sold in the frozen section, these meatless cakes are made with jackfruit, potatoes, cilantro, green onions, celery seed, and a seasoning blend, according to ChooseVeg.com.
Each two-cake serving has 150 calories, six grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, six grams of fiber, one gram of sugar, and two grams of protein. Each box has four cakes total, so even if you eat the entire box, it's only 300 calories. Whether you are totally vegan or just want a low-fat crab cake alternative, these jackfruit cakes are a must have on your next TJ's run.
