Seeing Tokyo's Prime Minister Pop Up as Mario Will Get You So Hyped For the 2020 Olympics
During the 2016 Olympics closing ceremony, we got a glimpse of what the 2020 Games will look like in Tokyo, the next hosting city. Spoiler: It looks epic. The preview played on Japan's pop culture including Nintendo's Mario, Hello Kitty, Pac-Man, and anime characters. Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is shown arriving late to the Rio Games in Tokyo, but finds a shortcut through the iconic green pipe in Super Mario Bros. He then shoots through the pipe as Mario and appears on the stage at the closing ceremony, hyping us up for 2020 already. In the video above, you'll also see other Japanese Olympic athletes next to familiar characters.
