Say Sayonara to These Fashion Items, Because They Didn't Make the Cut For 2017
As Heidi Klum would say, "One day you're in, and the next day you're out." This could not ring more true for clothes we've worn and trends we've tried in 2016. So what exactly are we saying bye to this year? At the top of the list are black shoelace-style chokers and Stan Smiths - items every fashion girl, including us, sported in one Instagram snap or another. Our reasons for saying bye to the 10 items ahead are quite simple: the new year has inspired us to switch things up. The year 2017 may signify a new you, or at the very least, new clothes (let's toast to that).
Based on our own tastes and Spring '17 runway trends, we've compiled a list of items to retire next year. Whether you have been holding on to that jacket for far too many years or are sick of a particular trend, 2017 is the time to begin anew with your style. Give those pieces a break, and then check out the updated alternatives to wear instead.
Listen to Jennifer Lopez Flawlessly Sing a Duet in Portuguese With Legend Roberto Carlos
Jennifer Lopez has released a new song in Portuguese with legendary Brazilian musician, Roberto Carlos. The track, entitled "Chegaste," marks the first time we've heard the songstress perfom in Portuguese, and we're loving it. This new hit follows Jennifer's successful duet with ex husband Marc Anthony, "Olvídame y Pega la Vuelta," a single from her upcoming Spanish album which she performed at the Latin Grammy Awards in Nov. 2016.
Jennifer expressed her gratitude for working with the 75-year-old music icon on Twitter, saying:
Honored & excited 2 have worked w/ such a living legend like @robertocarlos.

Wonder Woman Kicks Every Ass and Takes Every Name in the First Official Images
Despite the fact that the new Wonder Woman movie is less than six months away, we've only gotten a few cursory looks at what's to come. Since we first saw the staggering Comic-Con teaser in July, we've only picked up one additional trailer and a handful of other details. That's all changed, now that DC has released the first official images from the movie! Behold them in all their glory ahead, and take solace in the fact that Wonder Woman is coming to kick ass in 2017.
Winter Reading List: 33 Books to Read Before They're Movies
There could not be a cozier Winter cliche than the idea of curling up with a book beside a fireplace, so let's just run with it. For the hands-down snuggliest indoor activity, we have a whole list of books - books that also happen to be next on Hollywood's list to adapt. Check out this list of books that will be movies soon, and you can decide for yourself if the book was better (it always is).
Ellen Pompeo Is Calling for a Boycott on A&E Due to Its Controversial New Show
A&E made headlines earlier this week when the network announced its latest show, a "powerful" documentary series called Generation KKK. The backlash began almost immediately, and chief among the objectors is Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, who voiced her disgust in a series of tweets on Wednesday. Though the show supposedly aims to expose the KKK's modern recruiting techniques, Pompeo claims that the network is "capitalizing on a disgusting wave that Trump started." For reference, here's A&E's official statement about the series:
"By actively targeting families and indoctrinating children, membership in the Ku Klux Klan is on the rise, causing America to come face to face with its stark divisions. In Generation KKK, cameras follow four prominent Klan families who each have a family member trying to escape the Ku Klux Klan. This series pulls back the curtain on the organization that the Anti-Defamation League calls 'a racist, anti-Semitic movement with a commitment to extreme violence to achieve its goals of racial segregation and white supremacy,' to show its effects on American families as members grapple with the consequences of leaving."
According to the network, the show "will also follow a network of anti-hate and peace activists working to break the cycle, by helping to convince members to leave the hate group." Here's what Pompeo had to say.
Shame on you @AETV https://t.co/eeGrdYbdjS
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
Hey I have an idea...why don't we all never watch ANYTHING on A&E again who's with me????
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
maybe @AETV you should just run episodes of @GreysABC instead... we are smarter more compassionate and oh yeah way better looking ✌🏾👍🏾
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
So I guess A&E stands for ...we will try to put Anything and Everything on tv... because we are a bunch of desperate pathetic tv execs 👍🏾
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
We shouldn't be giving ignorance a platform we already did that this year and look what it got us https://t.co/kkl0bEYo2E
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
The timing of this show angers me the most they are capitalizing on a disgusting wave that Trump started and media is normalizing NOT OK
- Ellen Pompeo (@EllenPompeo) December 21, 2016
Whether you agree with it or not, Generation KKK premieres on Jan. 10.

One is even an Oscar darling this year - a tough feat for the romantic comedy. See what we picked, and get ready to swoon.

14 Anxiety-Control Goals For 2017
If anxiety has been ruling your life in 2016, then this new year is the time for you to have a fresh start. Make mental health resolutions that will help manage anxiety and give you a greater sense of control over your brain and your life.
You can implement these 14 things throughout the year or try one or two a month. Either way, you'll be feeling stronger, more empowered, and happier every day. We all have anxiety, some of us more so than others - these things can help us keep it in check. Let's do this!
- Practice deep breathing. Get yourself a tracker or an app, or learn some techniques from yoga. Learning good, slow breathing techniques can come in handy if you're experiencing a panic attack or extreme anxiety.
- Take up a meditation practice. Whether it's on a meditation app, in a class, with a YouTube video, or on your own, calming yourself at least once a day can help manage your anxiety in a powerful way.
- Eat more foods with anxiety-reducing minerals. Did you know that there are foods that can calm you down? Omega 3s, B vitamins, magnesium, and more can all contribute to a greater sense of calm. Many therapists and psychiatrists also recommend a diet that is rich in foods like salmon, which are chock-full of mood-boosting omegas.
- Start a gratitude journal. When everything feels too overwhelming, a journal can help. Write down all your thoughts, but also remind yourself of the positives and what is rooted in reality. Bring yourself to the present moment.
- Find a therapist you love. You can only do so much on your own. If anxiety is a part of your everyday life, a therapist should be, too. Honestly, we can all benefit from therapy, and we could all stand to learn a little bit more about ourselves, our brains, and how we operate as individuals. Committing to regular therapy can help give you a sense of control over your life and your anxiety; it's a built-in a support system and a safe place to talk about what you're going through with tools that have been proven to work.
- Find a workout you love. One that actually works for you and your anxiety. While yoga is calming and centering for many, some anxiety sufferers feel like it's too much stillness and they're left alone with overwhelming thoughts. Maybe you need a challenging new workout where you don't have a second to think about anything but what you're doing in that moment. Finding a workout that forces you to be present is imperative.
- Take more self-care days. Too many plans and too many people asking for things from you can agitate your anxiety. Take a weekend day where you say no to plans and give yourself a break to do exactly what you need and want to do, even if that means doing nothing all day.
- Disconnect from technology more. Are constant texts, emails, and social notifications bogging you down mentally and emotionally? Turn it off. Keep your phone charger away from your bed. Take a few hours a day to disconnect.
- Try a natural practice, like reiki, acupuncture, oil diffusing, forest bathing, or earthing. Each of these holistic approaches have been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Can't hurt to try!
- Have a mantra for the year: "Anxiety does not control me." Repeating this to yourself can serve as a constant reminder that you are in control of your life and mental illness does not rule you. Everyone has anxiety; it's what makes us human! What matters is our relationship with it. You wouldn't let a friend control you, so don't let your anxiety control you either.
- Get more sleep. Sleep is a huge factor in reducing anxiety and stress. Make it a goal to get at least seven or eight hours per night.
- Remove unhealthy relationships and nurture the good ones. There are going to be people in your life who either just don't understand anxiety or don't make you feel good and perhaps make your anxiety worse. You don't need those people in your life! Foster your relationships with the people who build you up, support you, and understand when you need some time to yourself. Those people are on your team and will be there for you for life.
- Cut back on caffeine. If you've known about your anxiety for a while, you'll already know this, but if you're just learning, it's especially important to know: caffeine can trigger panic attacks. If you're a daily coffee drinker, you might be surprised at how much it's impacting your anxiety levels.
- Stop feeling bad about feeling bad. You're not a bad person, there's nothing wrong with you, and it's OK to have anxious feelings. Feeling guilt or shame around your anxiety is only going to make things worse - they're useless emotions that serve no purpose! Let go of the burden and know that it's OK to not feel happy or 100 percent all the time.

This Hot, Successful Dude Picked Out 10 Grooming Gifts For the Men in Your Life
This holiday season, POPSUGAR Beauty tapped some of our favorite influencers, including popular brand owners, bloggers, pros, and celebrities, to share the gifts they would like to receive or give. Find more gifting inspiration here.
Michael Dubin changed the shaving game. When he launched his company, Dollar Shave Club, in 2011, it quickly became a hit with men (and even some female POPSUGAR staffers) looking for inexpensive razors. The subscription service supplies its customers with shaving goods at nice prices (starting at $1 per blade), and recently, the brand expanded to include more grooming items. (He also starred in this viral video.) Since Dubin seems to know what people want, we had to get his advice on gift giving.
"While shopping for the holidays, I'm very practical," he told us via email. "My general gifting approach is to find gifts that are personal and useful. I think it's a nice gesture to find a present that adds value and convenience, whether I'm shopping for my mom or a colleague. And if you still can't find anything last minute, a thoughtful card goes a long way."

Dream Travel Scenario: These 3 Women Got the Celebrity Treatment on Their Empty British Airways Flight
While you're just figuring out how to get through airport security without slapping someone across the face, three lucky women traveling from Gibraltar to London's Heathrow Airport this week found themselves smack dab in the middle of most people's dream flying scenario. Thirty-four-year-old Laura Stevens and her friends Sarah Hunt, 35, and Laurie-Lin Waller, 33, had a delayed flight and took their time getting to the airport. When they got there, passengers from their original flight who arrived on time were able to get on an earlier plane. The girls - who had paid just £80 for their return economy tickets - ended up being completely alone on their subsequent British Airways flight - a flight meant for 150 people.
The ladies later told reporters that they were treated "like rock stars" and "felt like A-listers" upon boarding the flight; they were immediately upgraded to business class, given Champagne - they admitted that they got "through ten mini-bottles" between them - and a three-course meal and took tons of photos while strutting the empty aisles. They also snapped selfies in the cockpit and with the flight's captain and crew and were given access to the executive lounge upon arriving at Heathrow. London-based Laura, a television producer, called it an "amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience that we'll never forget," adding, "We felt like celebrities, especially when we were given Champagne! It was the best Christmas present ever - we couldn't believe how kind and lovely everyone was."
Imagine showing up for your coach seat on a packed plane and getting to travel like a Kardashian instead! We could not be more jealous.

Careful, These 10 Shirtless Tyler Posey Pictures Are Hotter Than You Think
If there's one thing playing werewolf Scott McCall on Teen Wolf has taught Tyler Posey, it's probably that he can and should go shirtless (as frequently as possible, please).
The 25-year-old Mexican-American actor, who you might also remember as Jennifer Lopez's son in Maid in Manhattan, frequently shares nearly naked pictures on his Instagram - and no, we're not complaining. While his relationship with Bella Thorne might've lost its steam, keep scrolling to see photographic evidence that Tyler himself has not. After all, if you've got it, flaunt it.

The proud dad uploaded a 33-second 360-degree video of his daughter, Maxima Chan, taking her first steps toward him and their dog. In his Facebook post, Zuckerberg took a moment to reflect on the adorable video and how far technology has come.
"When I was a baby and took my first steps, my mom wrote the date in a baby book. When my sister's children took their first steps, she recorded it with photos and videos," he wrote. "When Max started walking, I wanted to capture the whole scene with a 360 video so our friends and family can feel like they're right there with us."

Fans of J.K. Rowling Will Be SO Excited About This TV Show News
Since J.K. Rowling first published Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, fans have been longing for a television series inspired by her writing, and they're finally getting what they wanted . . . kind of. A new BBC series inspired by Rowling's crime novels under her pen name (Robert Galbraith) has officially begun filming, and is slated to hit screens sometime in 2017. And don't worry, American viewers: HBO has acquired the US and Canadian rights, so we won't have to wait much longer to see the show for ourselves.
Cormoran Strike, which will feature a debut season titled "Cuckoo's Calling" (after the so-named first book in the Strike series), is still nearly as mysterious as its inspirational literature. However, we've gathered as much information as possible about casting, set details, and more. Are your detective senses tingling yet? Read on for everything we know so far about Cormoran Strike.
Actor Tom Burke looks exactly like fans imagined Strike.
You might recognize Burke from several BBC productions, like War and Peace, or from the Ryan Gosling crime drama Only God Forgives. You can see him in character in the first look, on Robert Galbraith's official Twitter account.
Robin will be played by Cinderella and Jane Eyre actress Holliday Grainger.
Everybody's favorite redheaded temp, Robin, will be brought to life by the same woman who portrayed several notable characters in recent years, including Cinderella's evil stepsister, Anastasia, and Jane Eyre's sister figure, Diana Rivers.
Each season of the show will be based on a different novel in the Cormoran Strike series.
That means season one will be "Cuckoo's Calling," two will be "The Silkworm," and three will be "Career of Evil." Since Rowling is also working on other Strike novels, there will presumably be more so-named seasons.
Strike's office is located on Denmark Street off Tottenham Court Road, just like in the books.

On Dec. 22, Argentinian Boca Juniors soccer player Carlos Tevez married his childhood sweetheart Vanesa Mansilla in a civil ceremony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. But look closer, the floral-printed frock features a supertrendy see-through bell sleeve that adds a special touch.
This is possibly not Vanessa's only wedding dress; rumor has it the couple will be celebrating in a bigger ceremony in Uruguay in the next few days. While we hear if he'll take it, scroll ahead for photos of Carlos and Vanesa, their three kids and adorable puppy on their happy day.

We've rounded up a drool-worthy collection of matcha lattes that will encourage you to bring more Greenery into your daily routine. So while no "best books" list can be definitive, we think ours represents a roundup of the books that made an impact on our culture and conversations, stirred our hearts, and will stay stuck in our brains well after 2016 is long gone.

How Did La La Land Pull Off That Insane, Fantastical Opening Number?
As one of the most romantic and transformative films of 2016, La La Land is filled to the brim with whimsy and magic. Even without seeing the film, the gorgeous musical soundtrack and fanciful trailers are enough to give you a sense of what you're in for. Perhaps the most thrilling aspect of La La Land, in this respect, is that it wastes no time plunging audiences into its rose-tinted musical wonderland. We're talking about the opening sequence: during a particularly grueling freeway traffic jam on a hot Summer day (a dead-on representation of LA if I've ever seen one), a chorus of drivers emerges for an epic song-and-dance number right on the rooftops of their grid-locked cars.
There was always the chance that a feat of this magnitude could have been pulled off with elaborate sets and a soundstage, but that's not the case here. In a new chat with Entertainment Weekly, director Damien Chazelle explains how they pulled off the musical number . . . right on the very highways of the city itself. We've pulled the main highlights to break own how he made it happen.
La La Land Is the Most Romantic Movie of the Year - and Also, of Many Years
Wondering What Happens at the End of La La Land? We Got You
La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!
- Why Chazelle wanted to kick off with this sequence: "A lot of things were smashing together at the outset. First, I always wanted to do a shot where you go from car to car with each radio playing a radically different kind of music. I wanted it to feel like a city bustling with music . . . but this is Los Angeles. The cacophony of sounds is coming out of cars. And I loved the idea of presenting the soundscape of the city that way. And then the second idea was using that soundscape to build into an opening musical number and having a fantastical musical number arise out of a bunch of realistic city sounds."
- How he came up with the idea: "The scene came from me living in LA and being in traffic all the time, thinking about either wanting to shoot myself or dance . . . now that I live in LA and have fallen deeply in love with the city, to start La La Land with the thing that literally freaked me out the most about LA as a kid . . . that kind of endless grind of traffic, where most of what you see around you is concrete and you're surrounded by smog and exhaust fumes and burning sunlight."
- The main logistics: "We shut down an E-Z pass over-ramp. We shut it down for a Saturday and a Sunday in August of 2015 for the actual filming, but a week before that we got permission to shut it down for part of one Saturday so that we could do a dress rehearsal. Ironically, we got the dance and the camera moves to such a precise layout in prep during the parking lot rehearsals, that I and my key collaborators almost got a little overconfident. In retrospect, that [rehearsal] day saved us. I'd been using my iPhone camera during rehearsals but obviously a large crane is a lot more complicated than an iPhone. There were little things we hadn't even thought about. The interstate ramp is slanted, it's never flat. You're dealing with the heat, the sun burning down on the car tops. And the crane, there's heavy winds that high up."
- The big day: "[The dress rehearsal] allowed us to go in the next weekend and get it all done in two days. I wouldn't say it was easy - it was a really hot August weekend in LA - but we got what we wanted. And without those months of prep and dress rehearsal, I don't think we would have been able to."

The 2016 Spanish Lottery Christmas Ad Will Leave You Weeping
It wouldn't be the Christmas season without a charming Spanish lottery ad to remind you what the holidays are all about. Given that the proverbial pot of gold is worth a whopping $2.4 billion (and counting!), this five-minute minimovie titled "December 21st" is also a gentle nudge to its viewers to play - after, you know, you've wiped your tears and composed yourself.
This is the third consecutive year la lotería has left its advertising efforts in the hands of Leo Burnett Madrid, and it's easy to see why. While last year's "Justino" was an animated work of art, this year, there's a unique story about an elderly woman, Carmina, who mistakenly thinks she's won on Dec. 21, one day earlier than the actual draw. Nonetheless, her son and grandson rally the village to stand behind her presumed victory, celebrating with her as she beams with excitement. As if that wasn't enough to bring on the waterworks, what Carmina does at the end is the ultimate tearjerking Christmas gesture. Grab your tissues, and press play above to see the full thing!

7 Ways Latinas Can Make Their Voices Heard in 2017
The unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election may have felt discouraging for many voters, including Latinas who rallied together against Donald Trump's many shocking comments about immigration and women. If you felt a wave of apathy in the aftermath of the election, you are not alone. Now that the proverbial dust has settled, however, it's especially important to stay engaged and involved. Ahead, we've listed seven ways to do that.
1. Participate in your local Latinas Represent chapter.
Latinas Represent is the byproduct of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, and Latino Community Foundation of Colorado. The coalition works towards increasing Latinx representation in American politics. While Latinas Represent does give female leaders the tools they need to run for office or influence public policy, it also offers regular civilians a place to share the issues that affect them. To engage with other Latinas in your area, check out Latinas Represent's many chapters. If you're not represented on the map, then consider starting your own!
2. Contact your elected officials.
In November of 2016, a former congressional staff member went viral with her helpful guide to contacting representatives - and actually making them listen to you. All of her advice is definitely worth a read on Twitter, however, she ultimately said the most effective method is to actually just make the calls. For more information on how to contact them, click here.
3. Share your story with COLOR.
The Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) is a pro-choice, sex-positive movement that fights for reproductive rights and the overall physical and mental well-being of Latinas. If you're willing, you can share your own so-called "reproductive justice" story with COLOR. The organization will only use your first name.
4. Mark your calendar for Nov. 6, 2018.
Despite the unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election, Latinx voters still had a strong influence on many local and state-level races. For example, Mexican-American Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto won the Senate race in Nevada. While these victories from the 2016 election are great, the midterm elections on Nov. 6, 2018 will provide Latinx voters with another opportunity to make their voices heard.
5. Become a sponsor for ELLAS.
Embracing Latina Leadership Alliances, or ELLAS, is a program that helps low-income high school students excel both in and outside of the classroom. For $950, you can sponsor a student and help them attend workshops relevant to their interests and pursuit of higher education. You can also get involved by becoming a volunteer or speaking at a workshop. While ELLA is not an explicitly political organization, investing in the next generation is certainly a way to influence politics in the years to come. They are the future, after all.
6. Attend a local town hall meeting.
Town hall meetings serve as effective (yet slightly less formal) spaces for residents in the area to air their grievances and propose solutions. While these types of meetings don't have a direct effect on the nation at-large, they are still important and can improve your day-to-day life. To attend a meeting, find out who your senators and representatives are and monitor their websites or Twitter accounts for any announcements on upcoming meetings.
7. Run for political office.
If you've ever considered a career in politics, check out She Should Run. Following the presidential election, the organization launched an incubator program that has since encouraged over 4,000 women to run for elected office. She Should Run helps women define their brands, stand up to sexism, and connects them with other women in the program so that they can grow their respective networks.
