This Billboard Asks Drivers to Text and Drive For a Very Important Reason
Checking our phones these days is almost like a reflex. We all do it - even in situations when we shouldn't, like while driving. Since it's become such a dangerous activity, a digital agency and advertising company teamed up to create a billboard that encourages drivers to text and drive - for a good reason.
The billboard, which is up on the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto, says "Text and Drive" in all caps and shows a logo of a "Wathan Funeral Home." If your first instinct is to google the company, that's exactly what they want you to do because their website holds an important message.
If you're here, you've probably seen our "Text and Drive" billboard. And if you have, you probably came to this website to tell us what horrible people we are for running an ad like that. And you'd be right. It is a horrible thing for a funeral home to do. But we're not a funeral home. We're just trying to get Canadians to stop texting and driving, which is projected to kill more people in Ontario this year than drinking and driving. That's right. More.
The note, developed by the Montreal office of digital agency John St. and Cieslok Media ad company, goes on to mention that most people would never dare to drink and drive. Yet people text and drive, and that's even more dangerous. The two companies even developed a video quickly explaining why they felt compelled to do this. Watch it below.
It's incredible to think that we've reached an age where public service announcements are now warning about texting and driving more than drinking and driving. Hopefully this billboard delivers the right message to all drivers - your life is more important than a text.
