Who Is the New Red Priestess on Game of Thrones? The Night Is Dark and Full of Answers
Are you wondering about the new Red Priestess in town on Game of Thrones? Well, the night is dark and full of answers. The fiery new cleric is named Kinvara, and she's from the same religious order as everyone's favorite red woman, Melisandre. As Kinvara already proved when she aired Lord Varys's dirty laundry out in the Great Pyramid of Meereen, she's got great power - and, as she alluded in her first episode of the show, a massive web of influence amongst both citizens and the Red Faith.
According to her long-winded introduction by another servant of the Lord of Light, Kinvara's full title is "High Priestess of the Red Temple of Volantis, the Flametruth, the Light of Wisdom, and First Servant of the Lord of Light." The title of "first servant" may mean that Kinvara is even older than Melisandre, the original priestess of R'Hllor . . . and with experience comes power.
While we've only been briefly introduced to Kinvara, there are already rumors swirling that this new religious leader will be the one to cure Ser Jorah of his greyscale (and perhaps give him an arm with superstrength, which happens to another character in the books). It seems that Kinvara's character is poised to replace a notable character from George R. R. Martin's fantasy series, a male priest named Benerro who is covered in flame tattoos and believes that Daenerys is "one who was promised." If this proves true, we're in for a wild ride: Benerro's storyline reveals that he has the power to create flames and accurately predict the future, and because of this he is revered by thousands of devoted followers.
Because the show has outpaced the books, there's only so much that we can speculate, but suffice it to say that we're excited to see what comes next for Kinvara. It seems that she and Melisandre serve the same god but have very different ideas about who will save their world . . . or do they? Perhaps each Red Priestess is grooming one half of Westeros's salvation - Melisandre preparing Jon Snow (ice) while Kinvara mentors Daenerys (fire), before finally coming together to create a "song of ice and fire" that will fulfill the prophecy of Azor Ahai.
What's next? Only time will tell!
