Ever Wondered What Chewbacca Sounds Like Speaking English? This Is For You

Turns out, Chewbacca can speak actually speak English this entire time and we never knew! Actor Peter Mayhew released behind-the-scenes footage of himself on the set of the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and get this: he actually delivered all of his lines in English during his performance.

Mayhew's voice was later re-dubbed with the classic grunt sounds, known as the his Shyriiwook language. It's the one we've come to love - even if we couldn't understand him. Check out the fascinating video ahead and prepare to see your favorite Wookiee in a new light.
