A 4-Year-Old Held a Badass Backyard Women's March Featuring Princess and Superhero Dolls
Although many parents brought their young children to the Women's March on Jan. 21, Mark and Wendy Redfern decided to host their own march at home in Virginia with their 4-year-old daughter, Rose. Using Rose's dolls - Princess Tiana, Poison Ivy, and others - and clever signs (many full of puns), the family staged a mini march that was totally badass.
The female dolls were not chosen randomly. "Cinderella seemed like the perfect doll to reference the glass ceiling," Mark told BuzzFeed. "We picked Supergirl because technically she's an illegal alien, from the planet Krypton, so we could comment on immigration."
Mark hopes that the staged march will encourage Rose to be involved in social issues as she grows up. "We plan to raise Rose to be engaged and active," he said. "When she gets older, she can make her own decisions on how political she wants to be and what side she falls on, we'll love her no matter what. It's our job as parents to guide her through this crazy world and help her understand what's going on and to encourage her to grow into a strong and confident woman."
