This SNL Star Just Wore the Plus-Size Version of Michelle Obama's Holiday Dress
Tanya Taylor is one of the many designers who is an avid supporter of not only Michelle Obama, but also Hillary Clinton. She created the ultimate fashion girl pro-Hillary tee during the presidential campaign, and she dressed Michelle numerous times throughout her eight years as First Lady. So it came as no surprise that when designing one of the most monumental dresses of her career, she used Mrs. Obama as her inspiration.
The floral number she created for SNL funnywoman Aidy Bryant is her first-ever plus-size dress, which is modeled after a similar Tanya Taylor design Michelle wore to the 2016 White House holiday party.
"We didn't approach this any differently than we would with any other custom piece," Taylor told Glamour. "We would absolutely be willing to broaden our size range, but our retailers only buy up to size 12 from us."
While the fashion industry as a whole may slowly be catching on to a more inclusive mentality, it's designers like Tanya who are making strides to incite change.
