Diego Luna Just Perfectly Highlighted the Importance of Latino Representation in Hollywood With This Tweet
The fact that Diego Luna got to keep his Mexican accent for his part as Captain Cassian Andor in Rogue One (instead of having to hide it with help from a voice coach) is a big deal, and a tweet from the Mexican actor is summing up exactly why in the most perfect way.
On Jan. 4, Diego shared a screenshot of Tumblr user RiverAlwaysKnew's story where she talks about taking her Mexican dad to see the Star Wars movie featuring Diego in a leading role. "I wanted my Mexican father, with his thick Mexican accent, to experience what it was like to see a hero in a blockbuster film, speak the way he does," the fan says, before detailing her dad's reaction to hearing Diego's accent on a major blockbuster. She finishes with the truest words ever spoken about Latinos needing bigger roles in movies and TV: "Representation matters."
Diego was, of course, touched by the message saying he "got emotional" reading the story. Read the full sweet post below.
